2626  Media / Single-Player RPGs / NIS America is bringing Black Rock Shooter to NA and Europe on: August 24, 2011, 11:51:49 PM
Prinny Bomb

Of course this was hinted at a while ago and I even remember a third party (Good Smile Company, who make the figures and stuff) implying that the localization was already being worked on at Anime Expo, yet NISA has been oddly silent on the topic.  Now it's finally official.

Guess the PSP isn't quite dead in the US yet.

But when consumers are saying it, I really don't understand. It really depends on the types of consumers. If you are a very, very casual person who might just want to kill time as you're waiting for your train or something, you might not need a dedicated, big game experience. But if you like games, if you really love games, you would want to play the kind of games you like, even on the portable.

Damn fucking right.

Certainly if it is announced for the US the first people to know will be your local Gamestop employees.
2629  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: How honest do you think mainstream game critics are? on: August 24, 2011, 01:17:04 PM
For example, it's generally accepted that a racing game or an FPS will have multiplayer, so if your racing game or FPS doesn't depend on some gimmick that would break multiplayer, I think a reviewer is OK to dock the score for that lack.

Not all FPSs are the same.  I can see where you're coming from for a COD-like game, but if somebody docks a game like Bioshock for not having multiplayer then I will smack them.

Now I'm suffering from lack of sleep since I was up way too late last night playing this.  I don't regret it, though...

This game is great.  It's gorgeous, too.  Sure it's no technical powerhouse, but I love the art design and overall aesthetic.  The atmosphere is great.  The music is great.  I'm going to friggin enjoy this one.

Is it possible NoA is just waiting for an HD port on the Wii U?

No.

Seriously, though, you aren't the first person to suggest this but I can't see where this idea is even coming from other than pure wishful thinking.  While Xenoblade seems to be doing OK it's still hardly one of Nintendo's triple-A franchises that they would bother to remake for this sort of thing.  Especially so soon after the original came out.  What makes you think that such a project even exists?
2632  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: How honest do you think mainstream game critics are? on: August 22, 2011, 06:40:11 PM
I think you guys are reading way too much into this...

There are plenty of hyped-up heavily markted games that get mediocre review scores even from the big sites.  Yoda mentioned Brink, but that's hardly the only example.  How about the Medal of Honor reboot or Homefront?

Just because somebody disagrees with you doesn't mean they're corrupt.  Like many of us here I didn't like FFXIII, but I know there are people who genuinely did like that game.  Heck, some of them are on these forums.  And others might be reviewers.  It's weird to use that game as an example since it got pretty mixed scores.  It was not universally loved, but I can certainly believe that there are people who did like it.

Are reviewers for major sites completely impartial?  Of course not.  Nobody is.  They can be affected by hype just like anyone else.  But there is a huge difference between not being completely impartial and being deliberately corrupt (like selling review scores).

On a tangential note, someone on the TalkBass forum I used to frequent said people on TB spend more time talking about bass than actually playing it.  I sometimes wonder if people on RPGFan spend more time talking about RPGs than actually playing them.  I won't deny that it often feels like I fall into that trap.

I have definitely felt that way myself....
2634  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Xenoblade on: August 19, 2011, 04:41:34 PM
Joystiq posted a very detailed article on how to hack your Wii to disable region locking in order to play Xenoblade Chronicles.  I won't like to it (though it's pretty easy to find...) but I think it's quite interesting that a large, mainstream site like that would go that far.

Reviews are really positive, too.  91 on Metacritic.
2635  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Only 10% of all videogames sold are actually finished by gamers. on: August 19, 2011, 04:38:24 PM
I know so many people who buy a game, and let it sit so long that by the time they would get around to play it, something else has grabbed their attention. GOOD FOR YOU, YOU JUST WASTED $60! And people complain about the economy!

Back off, man, we're helping the economy!  How about a "you're welcome"?
2636  Media / The Soundroom / The World is Saved (a gamer music video) on: August 19, 2011, 02:31:41 AM
The World is Saved

This is a fan-made song and music video (sure they're IGN fans, but whatever) that I think ought to really resonate with people here.  I know I myself have had this feeling many times...

It's seriously good.  I just had to share it.

Chicken breasts are terrible.  I don't understand people's obsession with them.  It's the worst part of the chicken.
2638  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: JERRY RICE DOG FOOTBALL on: August 18, 2011, 04:08:46 AM
I know I'm supposed to be making fun of this game but it actually doesn't look that bad.  I mean, it's not my cup of tea, but I can see a place for it.  Better than some crappy minigame collection, anyway.
2639  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: JERRY RICE DOG FOOTBALL on: August 17, 2011, 06:33:37 PM
Game of the year.

10%, huh?

*Looks at game collection

Yeah, that's about right...
