It's not a traditional RPG (more of a strategy game, really) but you might like Valkyria Chronicles.  It definitely has some JRPG-style storytelling in it.

Otherwise, Nier isn't a bad choice.  It's not really 'epic' in the traditional sense, though.  The story is quite unique.

Console manufacturers control the content on their systems and also take a cut from all games released for their platform.  That's why they're able to do things like selling the system at a loss.

The situation with Windows is not at all analogous.  Anyone can make software for it and MS doesn't get a cut, other than possibly selling development tools (though there are third-party alternatives there too).

And then there's the fact that Sony isn't really competing in the operating system market, but they definitely are competing in the console market.  Why would they want to help out their competition?

Is anyone going to bother sending a letter to Sony to opt out?

I am thinking about it.  Not that I was even planning on suing them but it's the principle of the thing.

I would say Demon's Souls looks great but feels clunky - but to me the clunky-ness adds to the game.  You really need to plan your attacks and know how to react before engaging in any combat.  Even those zombie dudes in the first area.

I think Dragon's Dogma looks interesting.  I'm keeping my eye on this.

It's nothing like Demon's Souls.  I guess 'clunky' means different things to different people.  Demon's Souls is slow and deliberate.  Dragon's Dogma is more like imprecise and awkward.

It means that people like to complain.

I played a demo this game at PAX and I have to say I was disappointed.  The game definitely looks nice but it felt quite clunky when playing it.  Though the gameplay borrows from a number of tried and true sources somehow the implementation just didn't work as well as it should have.  Also it seems pretty heavily dependent on your AI-controlled teammates and the AI was pretty bad.  They would occasionally do things that just seemed completely inexplicable to me.

Of course I think the demo I played was the same one they had at E3 so maybe things have improved since then.  But what I played left a sour taste in my mouth.

Avoid feeling like a pedophile by buying online!

Somehow I feel that you are not the target demographic of this article, ZeronHitaro.

Showed it to some of my friends and they all completely agreed with it as well.

Shuhei Yoshida (president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, in case you didn't know) has tweeted that Vita will be region-free.

And there was much rejoicing.

Sure it's been hinted at already, but an (official?) confirmation is still damn good news.

Would this actually hold up in court?  I'm no lawyer...

Wow, that describes me perfectly.  I have nothing more to say...

Umm, it was meant to be heckling that was the whole point of the blog. I wasn't striving for anything more than that. If that's childish so be it I'm fine with it.

Sorry, I thought you had some sort of point you were trying to make.  My mistake.
2638  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Teh Bestest Review Evar! on: September 15, 2011, 07:41:35 PM
Honestly, Kay, I found your critique to be quite childish and unfounded.  Your contempt is obvious, but 90% of what you wrote amounts to little more than heckling.  You fail to present a coherent message.  One minute you criticize the author for using too much slang, and then the next you criticize the author for using 'big words' (that aren't even that big).  You seem to be going out of your way to find things to complain about.  I might note that personally I didn't have any difficulty understanding the author's slang and I'm not even much of a slang user myself.

It's obvious that the writer wasn't going for a "professional journalistic tone", but this isn't a story about international politics.  It's a video game review.  What's wrong with being a little silly?  One shouldn't claim something isn't 'professional' without considering the context and nature of the article in question.  Frankly I enjoy it when a reviewer feels that he or she can be a little more personal with the audience.  Not every review needs to be a dry list of facts.

Epic's epic epic ends epically

Come one, think about that sentence. It's an epic and guess what? It's epic! And it ends epically!!!

Jesus Christ.

It's a friggin joke.  It's supposed to sound silly.

P.S.: I hate Gears of War.
2639  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ninokuni (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) going PS3 on: September 15, 2011, 12:03:07 PM
This game actually looks very import-friendly.  Because they want it to be accessible for kids they even have furigana (the little hiragana characters over the kanji to tell you how to pronounce them).  It's a perfect match for my child-like Japanese skills ;)

That music seemed really inappropriate for the trailer...

In any event, this game continues to look awesome.  I know I've said this before, but damn...S-E really needs to localize this in some form.
