2626  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Kingdoms of Amalur on: May 24, 2012, 05:00:35 PM
This is really sad.  I enjoyed KoA and thought that the Amalur world had potential (though to be honest KoA didn't use it well...it was mostly fun for the combat).  But the amount of money they apparently have been pouring into this unreleased MMORPG is nuts...and now Big Huge Games is going down with the ship.

Well, it would at the very least be better that Battleship.

This should not be the standard for anything.

It's seriously the latter.  Consider your mind blown.

The top comment on that video is right:  Kill it with fire!

Ugh, I remember thinking this article was asinine when I saw it on Crunchyroll...why are we talking about it here?

Which is not to say that there aren't problems with JRPGs but it's not a good list.
2631  Media / General Games / Re: New X-COM game that's (*gasp*) a strategy game! on: May 22, 2012, 11:05:50 AM
It's got a release date!  October 9th.  I'm kind of surprised by how fast it's been since this game was announced.
2632  Media / General Games / Re: Games that are like RPGs but are not on: May 21, 2012, 05:27:42 PM
The Yakuza games are 100% RPGs as far as I'm concerned.  I know Sega doesn't market them as such, but they are.  I mean come on, you have leveling up, new skills and abilities, weapons, armor, items, exploration, side quests, random encounters...come on.  What more do you want?
2633  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust announces new Atelier game: Atelier Meruru on: May 21, 2012, 12:43:01 PM
There already is an Ayesha topic.  Shame on you, Dice ;)

And play Valkyria Chronicles.  OK, it's definitely anime-style but it's not trying to be cute.

I decided to take up powerbocking for some reason.

WTF is powerbocking, you ask?  It's what the folks in this video are doing.  Though I imagine in my case there's going to be a lot more falling down and injuring myself.
2636  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nomura: "New titles take priority over Final Fantasy VII Remake" on: May 17, 2012, 01:25:35 AM
Instead of 'trying to make new games match/top VII' how about they just, I don't know, worry about generally making a 'great' game 'by modern standards' for a change?

They did, it's called Type-0.  Crikey that game needs to be localized...
2637  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Game-opinions no one else agrees with. on: May 16, 2012, 04:22:45 PM
I've never really liked any of Blizzard's games.
2638  Media / General Games / Re: Naughty Dog's The Last of Us on: May 16, 2012, 12:49:53 PM
New trailer.  This one seems to focus on the humans-fighting-humans aspect.
2639  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Kingdoms of Amalur on: May 16, 2012, 12:24:47 PM
Keep in mind that 38 Studios has mostly been throwing money at their unreleased MMORPG.  Amalur was a side project that they picked up from a third party.  It could well be profitable on its own (though certainly not hugely profitable), but it's not enough to save this company from its own mismanagement.
2640  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Games you've basically "Memorized" on: May 16, 2012, 01:31:22 AM
Final Fantasy VI was definitely the first game that reached this point for me (hence the avatar...).  I've lost track of how many times I've played it through start to finish.  I'm pretty sure I've managed to discover just about every secret in that game without ever using a guide...

Planescape: Torment might also qualify.

But I don't have the time to play games like that anymore.  These days I'm lucky if I even finish a game once.
