What test is that?  The are-you-desperate-enough-to-date-a-lunatic test?

Some tests are better off failed...

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the opinion of anyone who doesn't put mustard on a pastrami sandwich...that's crazy.

Improved graphics don't give me a headache after 5 minutes of playtime.  Screw 3D.

I have Battleheart on my android tablet and while it is certainly fun in short bursts it can get pretty darn repetitive.  Every fight plays out pretty much the same way.  There aren't big variations in tactics.  And of course the fighting is all there is...there's zero story.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, Themadcow, but honestly I wouldn't buy either system now.  At least not for RPGs.

Keep in mind if you're planning on playing DS games on the 3DS I have heard (though I don't have a 3DS myself to confirm...) that most DS games really don't look good on the 3DS screen because of the stretching from the resolution differences.  When you add in the 3DS's battery life issues I think you're much better off playing DS games on a DS.

Maybe see if you can find a cheap DS somewhere.  There are probably great deals to be had these days, so I wouldn't pay MSRP.

Personally I'm quite interested in the Vita, but not for RPGs at this point.  They've barely announced any yet.  Of course it's still really early, and RPG developers tend to be slower about adopting new platforms in general.
2631  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Nintendo 3DS Launching at $249.99 on March 27 in the US on: July 28, 2011, 01:39:19 PM
Selling a new system at a loss is standard operating procedure for everyone but Nintendo.  It used to be standard operating procedure for Nintendo as well before they got arrogant and greedy.  They seemed to just assume people would flock to the 3DS despite the price and lack of games.  What actually happened was a much-needed wake-up call.

Holy crap, price drop already (at least in Japan).  That's a pretty huge drop, too.  I guess the system really isn't selling like they want it too.

Finally got my hands on my copy.  Amazon was nice enough to mail it next day air at no extra cost, I guess implicitly acknowledging their screw-up.

Random Encounters are just not necessary anymore.  The reason they exist is due to technology limitations back in the day. Now it should be enemeies on screen like Tales, Arc Rise Fantasia, etc.

Rubbish. Random encounters = being ambushed.

There's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of being stuck in a dungeon with low HP and MP, or maybe just half your party alive and not knowing whether you'll make it out of there without running into a group of your most hated monster types.

yeah until that situation causes you to get game over and frustration sets in....

It's called challenge.  If you don't ever get a game over then the game is too easy.

I just happened to look at your post count Jubby, and was thinking to myself, "How the heck does that guy have that many posts already?  Isn't he new?".  Then I actually read the post, and it all made sense.
2636  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy Type 0 on: July 26, 2011, 06:58:11 PM
You're forgetting that Type-0 was a cellphone game when it was first announced back then and scope was significantly smaller. The change of platforms along other projects lined-up obviously had an effect on planned time-frame, and really outside of 3 FNC games SE's Dev time has been fine.

It apparently wasn't anything when it was first announced.  Just some ideas and concept art.  Sure, the original plan was for it to be a cell phone game, but it doesn't take much to 'change plantforms' when you haven't started coding yet...

Er...how are you posting if you're banned?

I found the PSP to be incredibly uncomfortable myself until I got a grip accessory for it so that I could actually hold it properly.  Of course, PSP accessories are becoming hard to find these days...

Amazon, you have failed me.  I placed my preorder several months ago and it hasn't shipped yet.  What the frick?

From http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/26/ff_type_zero_interview/:

Quote
Type-0 was announced in 2006. At the time, only Tabata, Naora and Tetsuya Nomura were on the staff. Work was being done on Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, so it was only in 2008 that actual development began. Even then, the development team had to work on The 3rd Birthday, so Type-0's development was kept at a minimum level for about a year.

Why announce a game two years before starting development?  Sometimes I really don't understand what S-E is thinking...

Anyway, the game looks good.
