The history of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is now so complicated that every time I tell it I contradict myself, and whenever I do get it right I'm misquoted. So the publication of this omnibus edition seemed like a good opportunity to set the record straight--or at least firmly crooked.

Got the game early from Indie game seller who don't know what a "street date" is. :D

I love it so far, and ta-hell with opinions and modern standards, this game's graphics are beautiful in their own right (the motion capture really helps too of course, Abyss, Vesperia and Symphonia had probably some of the most retarded looking cut scenes for that).  Scenery is gorgeous.

Sadly, most of the music, though pleasant enough, is pretty forgettable and blandly melodic.

The battle system... hell, just about everything is pretty unique to the series.  I'm still kind of confused about how Skills work with Artes and with Titles. @_@  I accidently skipped through some of the dialogue on it...

I think this "kids" chapter is lasting a bit long too, I've skipped a few cutscenes here and there for going long and already making their "point".  But I'm sure it'll work out for whatever idea they're going to get at in the end.

Anyways, I'm pretty damn happy. :)

Nice, Dice!  I'm happy for you.  I agree that it's always good to hear nice things be said about a tales game.  Especially a localized version.  Makes all the waiting a bit less painful.

Preordered the other day.  I'm with the OP; I beat and enjoyed Symphonia a while back, but got halfway through Abyss before I gave up.  Apparently, I like cheese in my stories and character tropes so gameplay and story wise, it should please me if what I've hear through the grapevine is true.

according to Bioware on FB ME3 is now being released in 2012 :(
Yay!  More time to get through Mass Effect 1 & 2!  Plus, that's one less distraction to watching the girlfriend play Skyrim.  :P

I still don't get all the hate towards Dragon Age 2.  I love the hell out of it, repetitive dungeons and all.

Back to Wild Arms female leads:

I have to agree with those that found Virginia to be weak. I was pretty unimpressed with how they handled her. There's some weird hypocracy in her character model that just doesn't add up. Other characters tend to treat her as a strong leader, but I found myself thinking she was uncharasmatic and indecisive. She just didn't have very strong leadership skills, yet all the other characters follow her lead as if she does. I just didn't buy it. Not to mention, I do think she falls into the same problem as many female characters do, where as they develop, they become less emotionally strong. When you first meet her, she's a badass vigilante, but as the game progresses, she's prone to devolving into sorrowfull Daddy's Girl. I'm not saying that it isn't realistic for a character to become emotional over personal events like that, but it's possible to have a character show emotion without becoming weaker.
In my view, Virginia was never meant to be the "badass vigilante" in the story.  That's Maya's job.  :P  Virginia was more the passionate, yet exceptionally naive, heroine wannabe with daddy issues, who makes her mistakes and learns her lessons and manages to stick to her guns without having to do a complete 180.  Oddly enough, I never considered that a weakness.  Not every heroine needs to become the next "Rambo".  I like the type of character who sticks to their core beliefs and outlook in life.  Call me weird.

Raquel, on the other hand, was exceptional. Great concept, great execution (I really need to finish the game one day, and find out what happens to her!).
Well, seeing as Raquel...
Code:
...is dead due to her body finally breaking down by the epilogue after having given birth to Arnaud's daughter...it's sad that happens to one of the cooler characters in the game.
I have to agree about the writing, it is probably my least favorite of the series.

Personally, I think the "everyone's bi" thing was a great idea.  I was one of those who didn't like being locked out of some romances in Origins due to picking a certain gender.  I just took it as being able to have more options per playthrough.

That being said, I'm not sure I'd ever want to romance Varric.  Not because he isn't attractive, but because he just comes off as the "awesome friend" type, like the type of cool, somewhat jaded, yet wise and understanding bartender that keep slinging you drinks while you tell him your woes then throws out a line that solves just about everything.  Okay, so that's not the best way to describe it but that's the best way I can think of to describe him.

Seems like it's unanimous, then.  I'll d/l the demo now and try it out, then will likely pick up the game itself.

Thanks!

Good point.  The videos I did see were played on Insanity, which I had forgotten until now.

I will pick this up eventually.  I'm on too high of a Dragon Age kick at the moment.

This game honestly looks and sounds awesome.  And damn well is awesome according to X360 friends, the review here, and videos and forum posts that I've seen.  Problem is, I'm not very good at shooters, especially those where careful placement of characters is key to victory/staying alive.  Exactly how much of a learning curve is required to play/enjoy/finish this game with any kind of sanity intact?

I REALLY want this game.  Judging by the preview here and what videos I've seen of it, it looks like another one that will take up a considerable amount of my time/soul. I wonder if I should considering that Dragon Age II comes out a couple weeks after that and that is fully paid for.  o_O;

Not to mention that I just started on Infinite Space.

A chocobo is pretty much what you get when you cross an ostrich with a canary (or cardinal/raven/bluebird/whichever color chocobo you want) anyways...
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Xenogears, Legend of Mana, Vagrant Story, and Threads of Fate ESRB rated for PSN on: December 29, 2010, 07:12:14 PM
Nice!  I've played all of those except for Vagrant Story (yeah, yeah...sacrilege, blasphemy, and all that :P), but it'll still be nice to add them all to the collection once they release.

It might be a while before I pick this up, but I will!  I'm playing through the first two (very slowly) for the time being.

Seeing as Super Robot Wars OG2 has its own anime now, this thread reminded me of someone from that game I truly despised.

Aguila Setome - The way she literally mindraped Seolla and Ouka just to set them against Arado and Latooni, tried to drag Latooni back to her side so she could torture the poor girl all over again (and threatened to do the same to the Kobayashi sisters), and treated them all like they were mere tools made me rage.  Could not STAND her.  Everytime she opened her mouth, I wanted to toss something in it.  Preferably huge and explosive.

Definitely liked what I saw of the trailer.  Can't wait until the english site goes up so I can actually read all about it.  I've flipped through the japanese site, but I can't brain well enough to make an effort to read japanese at the moment.

I was going to suggest FF6, myself, as Kefka is irredeemably evil in my view.  Besides, unlike Luca "DIE, PIG" Blight, Kefka maintains a presence throughout all of the game and maintains his sadism until you end him.
