601  The Rest / General Discussions / Mel Gibson Hates Jews on: August 02, 2006, 04:23:41 PM
From an actual Jewish standpoint (yes I am Jewish) here's why it pisses my family off.

It's not so much (to me, personally) that he made the remarks. Oh no, it's the fact that people accused him of this before and Mel pretty much said, "I'm not a Jew-hater lol that's against my religion!". Some (not everyone) took his word for it because you certainly couldn't prove it, unless you took Passion of the Christ at absolute face value to explain Mel's beliefs. Now we find out two years later he totally lied, and now is trying to save face for his career.

I give the guy props for trying to work things out with the Jewish community, because I don't think his entire apology is just career-motivated anymore. but I read somewhere (and agree) that you don't just spit out drunken slurs at a whole community and expect and NOT be a drunk/anti-semite the next day.
602  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Weird DNS problem on: July 30, 2006, 01:07:51 PM
Dredging up an old topic here.

I did the router test for a day and a half, and I discovered it's most likely my router. I already did a firmware update so I figure my router is going buggy. I could hard reset it but it had issues about a month ago with 'software caused connection abort problems' I reset it then and to keep doing this every month or two is a pain in the ass, so my dad and I finally figure we need to upgrade our router.

Since wireless is pretty much standard, we're looking to buy a wireless router with switches in the back for wired computers. I'd like a router that shuts off wireless for now but eventually we'll probably get a wireless computer (I'm looking into buying a laptop in a few months time). I've heard that Buffalo, linksys, and D-link are pretty good choices. I'm also aware of that the cheaper router you buy, the more problems it'll have.

Convince me, 'fan, what is a good router to look for? I'm pretty much gonna be the one doing the research since my dad is more clueless than I am.

(Note: I have a linksys BEFSR41 v. 2 now, for your knowledge).
603  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Weird DNS problem on: July 26, 2006, 01:08:30 PM
'Ello RPFan. I've got somewhat of a strange problem.

Around 3-5 times a day, the DNS randomly puts out on my computer network (we have 2 computers and both do this at the same time) I know the internet is up because I can connect to my IRC server just fine (I use the static IP address), but I can't connect to any websites. In about 3-5 minutes, the DNS is back up.

What could be causing this problem? Is it my router or the ISP's fault?
604  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / what the heck? on: July 26, 2006, 01:06:08 PM
Actually, be really, REALLY thankful a history mix up is your only problem. People have lost computers (like, as in they are now big pieces of plastic junk) due to power surges/lightning strikes.

As for your problem, no idea.
605  The Rest / General Discussions / Israel to world: Fuck off on: July 17, 2006, 04:30:18 PM
Can't say I'm super surprised something errupted in the Middle East. I was expecting full out civil war in Iraq first, though I'm sure that's coming shortly.

I'm a fairly optimistic person, but I've been thinking/saying since 9/11 that WW3 will start in the Middle East. There's just too much shit going on right now. Pray to god that Syria and Iran do not get more involved then they are now, becuase if they do you can bet the U.S. will get into it, and then Russia and China will put their hands into the pie because of their support of Iran. It will be a very, VERY bad situation all around.

While I don't blame Israel sticking up for itself (I mean, my god, EVERY middle east country and terrorist wants EVERYONE dead) and as a Jewish person I get tired of people blaming Jews for everything going wrong in history, but I do get tired of Israel's entire 'bomb first, ask questions later' policy with every conflict they seem to have. Way to make new friends! Though at this point they probably don't have that much choice.

This is SO COOL. The level of detail to the sprites are AMAZING.

If you had purchased your DS Lite at Gamestop and sold your old DS at the same time you would have gotten a pretty nice boost to the trade-in value of your old DS. The inclusion of Brain Age at Best Buy makes up for the boost, though.

Oh yeah. I do have some people who may be interested in buying it though, hence why I went with the other deal.
608  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Computer Upgrades! I am clueless! :| on: June 15, 2006, 03:04:02 PM
Okay folks. You are hopefully pretty techie and it is time to upgrade my computer...but unfortunately I'm rather retarded in this area and I need some sound advice! :)

Here's some specs on my computer:

But to go into more detail than what's there: There's about 2 extra slots where I could stick extra hard drives/CD-ROMs, my video card is AGP and comparible to an Radieon 9600 (2004 edition), and my power supply SUCKS. It's only 350 watts.

So here's the deal: this week my OS utterly borked on me and my vgaoem.fon file got corrupted. Since I have the OEM version of Windows Media center and gateway restricts the hell out of EVERYTHING regarding repair, it's currently in a shop getting data saved/OS reinstalled. THe tech guy told me though that my power supply sucks for what I have, and I should look into possibly getting a back up hard drive (which I've been considering for a while anyway).

So here's what I'm looking for. I've trolled Tigerdirect and Newegg but a lot of this gabblygook. I'd rather not spend more than 250-300$ for this stuff (otherwise I might as well just buy a new computer). My knowledge of installing stuff is pretty nil too, so I'll probably have to pay a guy to install all this crap.

I need:

*A new power supply. I'd like 550watts/volts/whatever but I can live with 500.
*A hard drive. I'm looking at a WD 320 gig cavier Hard drive that seems fairly cheap and nice for what it is (Plus I have the same kind of hard drive as my external USB drive), unless there's a better drive out there, or a better price.
*Ram! I'm looking to upgrade my ram to a gig or so. I've heard Corsair is good, but IS IT? :O
*This is more optional, but video cards baffle me. I'm not looking for a HUGE improvement but what's a good card (that also has a TV tuner?)

Thanks, 'Fan people you! I'd appreciate the help. :)

Picked mine up on the street date at my best buy. Got brain age for free with a promo deal, too.

I'll tell you, the brightness of the games makes you blind at first. It's like, "OH MY GOD WAS ANIMAL CROSSING ALWAYS THIS COLOR HAPPY?" O_o

I still have my old DS. Seeing if my friends wanna buy it before slepping it off to gamestop.

Overall, quite happy with my purchase.
610  The Rest / General Discussions / EB Games - controlled by communist nazis on: June 07, 2006, 12:10:41 PM
That's too bad, Dios :(

I think what gets me about EB/Gamestop is the absurdly high prices on USED games. Case in point: Yesterday I was looking around at a big EB store in San Francisco for my birthday. I rented Kingdom Hearts II from Gamefly and they offer it used for about 38 bucks. They don't charge shipping costs - only tax.

How much was it at EB? 45 BUCKS. new? 50! What the HELL, EB?! Even with a discount card, I'd be paying LESS at Gamefly, which will most likely be 40 all together.

It's half the reason I've been buying used games lately from Gamefly as opposed to EB/Gamestop. It's cheaper! :( EB IS good for super old games though, mostly gameboy games (though 15 for Tetris! Come the fuck on, EB!)

Everyone sees it as mediocre but me. :( I guess I am touched.

Even more ignorant question: I'm not entirely sure what wi-fi is! Is it wireless internet support, like the DS? Would that mean that the cheaper model couldn't go online?

Basically, yes. Or at least (and I am totally not sure on this) it'd be a hard-wired connection.
614  The Rest / General Discussions / PS3 to sell for $499, have motion sensing controller on: May 08, 2006, 10:11:15 PM
Something is wrong with gaming when my IPOD costs LESS than a PS3.

I'm just saying, yanno.

Female lead is good, ever since 7 the male lead is getting more and more feminine looking, might as well just sod it and make him into a girl.

Or the screen could be of a guy ...at this rate. =P

Don't quell my hopes! I'm thrilled that there is finally a true female lead in a FF game!

Though why does sh look like Yuna/Ashe/Rinoa thrown into a blender and thus this is what we get? :|
