616  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Legend of Heroes Discussion on: April 29, 2006, 04:28:35 PM

I was impressed that the PSP was getting an RPG. (it's becoming barebones in the RPG department on the PSP) I still need to pick up the last Legend of Heroes game, though.

Sadly, the only RPGs the PSP seems to get are ports.

Has this been comfirmed for release in America? Cuz it looks purdy.

Bad, yeah, but you have to give the guys and gals some credit for working on the thing for two years. I actually think these fan-made movies are kind of cool, in a way, because these are people who really care for what they're doing. Sure, it might not have the best of acting, storytelling or special effects, but it does have a very big heart. If people want to spend two years of their life on making a Zelda movie, then hey, more power to them. I'm sure that the intended audience is going to like it.

You're joking, right?

I mean, NOTHING is more insane than the ultimate Zelda fanboy who demands 'omg Zelda's hair is supposed to be blonde!!' and 'omg Zelda is not an RPG you fucktard :{' and 'Link and Malon FOREVER <3 <3 <3'

I mean, check out the forums section of that page. Supports my theory right there. The intended audience will HATE this movie.
618  The Rest / General Discussions / Prices of Game Rentals. on: April 11, 2006, 11:26:07 PM
Like KeeperX, I'm also a proud Gamefly subscriber. I mostly joined it because the two places to rent games from where I live (Hollywood Video and Blockbuster) are not only notoriously expensive, but they often don't have the games I want to rent. Hollywood in particular has virtually NO RPGs to rent. The last one I was able to rent from them was Fire Emblem for GC.

I have a habit of trusting the word of mouth of my friends, buying a 40-50 game only to find I hate it or lose interest halfway through. Gamefly is awesome for that, because I can play it and see if I like it first.

Another thing people don't know about Gamefly is their 'Keep It' feature. If you like a game you're renting enough, you can buy the game at a used game price and they'll ship your the box and manual. I used it to buy Animal Crossing WW (I swore I'd never buy another AC again...so much for that!) and I'm considering buying Suikoden V from them, since I'm renting it now and it's oh so awesome.

If Gamefly, or anything akin to it (there are other rental companies besides just gamefly) didn't exsist, I'd probably not rent games.
619  The Rest / General Discussions / 911 Dispatcher's Mistake Leads to Mother's Death on: April 10, 2006, 12:15:25 PM
Quote from: "Dios GX"
I'd just like to point out that for all anybody knows, when she "passed out" it could have been due to an aneurism and she would have been dead before this kid called 911. So I fail to see how she is "responsible" for someone's death. She is however, stupid as fuck for not taking it seriously.

Actually, I think I heard on the news that she had an enlarged heart, so more than likely it was a heart problem. Yeah, she could have been dead before help arrived, but to me that doesn't matter. She's still responsible for having a hand in her death (the dispatcher, I mean).
620  The Rest / General Discussions / 911 Dispatcher's Mistake Leads to Mother's Death on: April 09, 2006, 11:25:03 PM
Edit: I worked off knowledge from what I heard on TV, but didn't look at the article. She's /not getting fired/? That pisses me the fuck off, she is responsible for someone DYING because of her incompetence. God fucking dammit, I'm thinking I'm going to be better off keeping phone numbers to the police and hospital around if that's how these stupid shitbags work.

WHAT?! She's not getting fired?! If this isn't negligence, I don't know what the hell is!

That woman should not only be fired, but sued until she's broke. This is insanity.

EDIT: According to the article, here's why she's not being fired:

Officials said the 911 operator will be disciplined, but because of her years of service she will not be fired.

FUCK THAT. Someone just DIED because she's a cold-hearted ho. Years of service don't make up for the fact she had the ability to send out someone to help, prank or not, and she negelected to do WHAT SHE WAS HIRED TO DO.

622  The Rest / General Discussions / Bush may have directly OK'd Plame leak on: April 07, 2006, 06:13:29 PM
I think what really bugs me most (and I failed to mention this before) is that Bush tends to validate everything he does because of terrorism. Iraq was because of terrorism (and the information was faulty). Wiretapping is to stop terrorism. I'm almost getting the feeling that if Bush got drunk and decided to take a dump on the White House lawn and got caught, it'd totally be okay because he did it to fight terrorism!

...Okay, no, I don't imagine that happening, but I sat there laughing at the mental picture for quite a while. I'm a sick, sick woman. ;)

And to whoever mentioned the Justices, I agree. I don't mind Roberts but for the MOST part (except for Myers...I THINK that was her last name.) Bush essentially got what he wanted with the Supreme Court -- a right leaning one.
623  The Rest / General Discussions / Bush may have directly OK'd Plame leak on: April 07, 2006, 04:11:53 PM
The sad thing is he really really should be impeached for this (he's not denying he did it), but it actually IS legal (well, what he did), so no impeaching.

I do get sick of the American people just sitting on their asses and doing jack except for a select few. I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican. This stinks. This President has serious issues with Checks and Balances, first with wiretapping, the Patriot Act (Which would be okay if it didn't give the Government SO MUCH POWER), and now this.

I have no problem with Republicans. I don't agree with the overall view but there HAVE been good Republican Presidents and governments, and there are actually a few republican viewpoints I agree with (Would you believe I'm actually for the Death Penalty?). It's the Neo-Conservitive viewpoint I utterly, utterly hate with every fibre of my being. And maybe with a GOOD, smart government maybe it could have worked. Maybe. But based on the overall viewpoints it has it's so easy to just get carried away with 'demoracy or nothing!' and have severe power issues. I hope history will see this entire neo-conservitive viewpoint as being an utter failure.

For the sake of arguement, name ONE thing that has worked within the past four years. The only thing I can think of on the top of my head is how the Surpreme Court shaped up.

Normally I keep my mouth shut on politics because I expect to be flamed, but this made me so angry.

Here's the proof on the whole legality thing, btw:
624  The Rest / General Discussions / RIAA and MPAA merge to form... on: April 02, 2006, 12:37:06 PM
None so far!

It says April 1st on the site. That leaves it suspect!

Though if they really DID merge, the name Mafiaa is so, so fitting.
625  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / My Hard Drive is a sad, sad panda. :( on: March 22, 2006, 08:31:57 PM

I think the cheapest version is the Lite one, but that only allows you to recover 25 files per session. I readily admit to getting a hold of my copy of the software by less, shall we say ethical?, means.

(cough cough yeah I would agree)

And I did some workarounds. Apparently one bad sector is the cause of my woes. I'm in the process now of trying to extract my old data (which, thank god, is still there) and then will reformat this poor old drive. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll probably celebrate by watching all the anime I saved from the firey jaws of hard drive death!

EDIT: It worked, it worked! I saved most of my data. Thank you so much for this suggestion -- you saved me assloads of money. May I buy you two gentlemen a drink?

How much does this cost? On their website, they have so many packages my eyeballs felt like exploding! Can you only get this on their site?
627  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / My Hard Drive is a sad, sad panda. :( on: March 21, 2006, 12:59:09 PM
Hey folks!

I believe my hard drive has suffered a flaming, burning death. It USED to be an internal drive, but it was always meant as a media drive and was never a main drive. Since I got a new computer I took out this drive and put it into one of those cases that turn an internal drive into an external one. It's connected via USB.

Now just yesterday I turn on my drive, and lo and behold, there's NO data on it. The BIOS recognizes the drive (which is good!), but it's in RAW format now (I believe it was a FAT32 drive before, and if I'm right I'm probably screwed right there) and says it's not formatted! WHAT! :( I had a couple of lock ups with it (which unplugging the drive and plugging it in helped) and I wasn't sure if it was a drive or USB problem. I backed up a bit just in case, but that was 3 months ago. It was working beautifully yesterday and I shut it down normally. But apparently not normally enough!

I think obviously saving the drive will not happen, but does anyone know of any good data recovery software? I figure this is probably a shot in the dark and all, but hey! Anything helps!

In the meanwhile I go back to restoring my lost media collection. Thankfully I had most of it backed up, but I still lost 20% of it. My anime! ;_; *sniff*
628  The Rest / General Discussions / What makes one "good" at RPGs? on: March 19, 2006, 01:10:44 AM
Oh, I dunno. I dunno if people get 'good' at RPGs, but more they get experienced with RPGs. Case in point:

When you first started RPGs, chances are you didn't know the RPG staples -- Knowing EXACTLY when and how to buy the right piece of equipment, having JUST the right amount of items to get you through and knowing when to use them. Knowing that EXP == GOOD, Running == NOT ALWAYS GOOD BUT SOMETIMES! Also knowing what stat buffs to save your hiney and what spells worked against what enemies. I'm sure not everyone here knew of ye old RPG elemental rules (FIRE BEATS WATER! Etc etc)

I guess I would say those who become 'good' at RPGs get a sixth sense on how to get through one. We get used to the RPG staples, and we develop a more complex means of problem solving. We also can spot cliches in a heartbeat. We just become 'good' at RPGs this way.

This was my most rambly post ever. I hope that made SOME sort of sense.
629  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Anyone good with IRC and firewalls? on: March 13, 2006, 01:48:46 PM
Hey folks, I need your help!

I frequent IRC a lot, as many of you know (I own a server!) and for the past couple of months I'm constantly disconnected by ' [10053] Software caused connection abort' errors. Usually this happens when I idle but I've seen it happen other times too. It happens all three network servers, by the way.

I tried tweaking my router and firewall settings ( I have norton internet security), and setting up a ping-reply timer. Nothing has worked and I'm not quite sure what the problem is. I need help and suggestions! This problem is driving me nuts! :(

I am almost positive the voice actor for Lenny is the same. This makes me squee in joy.

I've only played an hour of it, but already it's nifty. More later when I actually get time to sit and play it.
