76  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden 6, Breath of Fire 6, and Wild Arms 6... on: October 19, 2012, 09:30:43 PM
Since this thread was revived by RPGseeker, I just want to take the opportunity to point out a strange little synchronicity.... If anyone checks out gameinformer mag, the most recent issue actually has an article about this which talks about the prospect of ever seeing a future to these IP's....

see how cool we are...? RPGfan is ahead of the curve... were freakin' trendsetters in the realm of gaming publications here-LoL....

More importantly, that article was written by our former Managing Editor, Kimberley Wallace. There's a reason why GI's RPG coverage has suddenly improved so much... ;D

It looks really interesting - I will probably stop looking at things about this game from here on in. I like to go into the things I love blind.

80  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What are your Final Fantasy memories? on: August 30, 2012, 05:49:09 PM
I remember the Y2K scare and trying to beat FF8 before midnight when supposedly all the power in the world would go out and computers would fail, etc. Was such a thrill as I was like 13 or 14 years old at the time, I did actually bat it before midnight.

Heh OT but I remember someone saying that memory cards could/would get erased during Y2K so I went around and pulled all of my memory cards out of my playstation just to make sure.  I was chugging through Grandia 1 since I got it for Christmas and didn't want to lose my save.

Haha, I love this! I remember unplugging all of my electronics too. XD I also remember being at a friend's house, hunkered down in the corner with one eye trained on the TV, fearfully awaiting the end of the world at midnight. Never mind that the clock had already struck 12 in many places around the world...

Needless to say, I was relieved. About my save data, I mean.

Our Theatrhythm feature, which went up today, touches on the various ways that Final Fantasy has impacted my life. We're all RPGFans here, so I'd like to spark a discussion: what are your memories of Final Fantasy? Did you miss your junior prom because you had just reached Ultimecia's Castle and you couldn't tear yourself away from the TV? Did you listen to a burned CD full of FFVII music as you walked to school every day back in 7th grade? Did you stay up all night, finally triumphing over the Ark Angels in FFXI just as the sun began to rise? Was the release date of FFIX the same day you met a lifelong friend? Whether your story relates to a particular game or is just related to the series in general, I'd love to hear about the way Final Fantasy (and even RPGs in general) have affected you.

You read my tale, so let me hear yours! :)
83  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust announces new Atelier game: Atelier Meruru on: May 30, 2012, 06:06:32 PM
I was not a huge fan of Rorona. Totori was leaps and bounds better, like Kevadu said, while Meruru's improvements are on a smaller scale. I really think it's the best in the series, but I can see why some people might like Totori a bit more. Remember that there's a prologue in Meruru that will succinctly summarize the first two games.

Also, there is an event in Meruru that spoils the true ending on Totori, so be forewarned.
84  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust announces new Atelier game: Atelier Meruru on: May 29, 2012, 01:58:38 PM
Here's my usual question for Atelier games:

How does time work? and how lenient is it?

Time management is pretty much the same as in Totori. You start with three years, and if you meet your initial population goal (which is not difficult), you get two more years. I never found myself pressed for time in this one, honestly. There are also lots of ways to maximize efficiency. You'll have two Homunculi to help gather or synthesize items, and Meruru has a second equipment screen where she can wear things like shoes to reduce travel time, talismans to increase experience gain, gloves to increase the amount of items gathered, etc. The structures you build also have bonuses, like reducing the materials required for synthesis or giving you money on a certain day every month.

I wouldn't stress about it. It's a lot more forgiving than Rorona ever was. :)

Next up on the DLC will be Hope's Mom Dad (let's face it, she'd be the last DLC character because she'll be the strongest, because moms are tough).

I admit, I had a nice laugh at that.
87  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Totorie, Alchemist of Arland 2 announced for the PS3 on: October 08, 2011, 09:36:02 PM
Okay thanks, but what I was asking after the "end" year 6 month 6, is it completely game over or is it open ended (like after beating game, there would be extra content and you can freely roam around and doing whatever)

The way this game is described so far AFAIK, its like a arcade RPG, you get to play X amount of game time, and when that time ends, it is game over no matter how many quarters you put in... to use that kind of analogy.  Basically this sounds like a time limited game in the strictest sense.

I suppose it is "strict" in that there is a cut-off point, but try not to stress about it so much. It'll make the game a lot more enjoyable. You will probably have time to do almost everything you want to do, and if not, there's New Game+. :)
88  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hey Guys! We got one! (Solatorobo Thread) on: September 28, 2011, 07:24:16 PM
Like Kim said, this game very much evokes childhood nostalgia. It's unfortunate that our adult sensibilities can lead us to associate animal characters with the dark side of the furry fandom, because this game quite obviously has nothing to do with sex. To me the game feels like a lighthearted Cowboy Bebop mixed with Samurai Pizza Cats. Besides, floating islands! Baten Kaitos and Skies of Arcadia, eat your hearts out.

I can't live without Adol X Dogi anything.

It was nice to see some videos of these, and I appreciate that the representative actually knew what he was talking about. Most game news sites seemed to gloss over the Ys titles at E3.
