76  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Games of the Year 2012 Discussion Thread on: January 09, 2013, 11:07:53 AM
I clicked on each category guessing Mass Effect 3 would inevitably win, and yes including best indie game.

Great. Thanks a lot for reminding me of 2012's VGAs. :argh:

At least the awards ceremony here was more dignified than that trophy conveyer belt (and its debatable to even call those things trophies let alone anything that has to do with video games). Though credit where credit's due, out of all the western developed, testosterone fueled, blatantly misogynistic, male gamers' power fantasies on display last year, it was nice to see The Walking Dead pull out the first worthwhile upset in recent memory in that particular venue.

Our staff lists go where a big organization like Spike TV wouldn't dare to tread, at least. Neal's list in particular is super indie, and I love that, because he's genuine.

I can bring swords to a gunfight in ME3. Can I do that in ToGF? (Disclaimer: I don't own the latter.)

Actually, you can! Well, technically, it's a double-edged sword that turns into guns. Uh. Yeah.

Well, it's up. You probably knew that already. With 2012 behind us, we ask: what were your favorite RPGs last year? Do you have any strong feelings about the games that made our list (or maybe the ones that didn't)?

Discuss! :)

I personally thought it was incredibly well-done. I'd rather have no dialogue than bad dialogue. The fact that we've already seen the "End of an Era" bit doesn't make it any less impressive. It probably would've had more of an impact if they had released it all at once, but either way, I'm satisfied. Super hyped for this.

Episode 54 is finally up!

Sorry for the wait on this one, guys. We tried to get together a couple of times throughout November/December and our conflicting schedules just didn't align. Hope you enjoy this episode!

That is some serious dedication. I'm really impressed.

Since this thread was revived by RPGseeker, I just want to take the opportunity to point out a strange little synchronicity.... If anyone checks out gameinformer mag, the most recent issue actually has an article about this which talks about the prospect of ever seeing a future to these IP's....

see how cool we are...? RPGfan is ahead of the curve... were freakin' trendsetters in the realm of gaming publications here-LoL....

More importantly, that article was written by our former Managing Editor, Kimberley Wallace. There's a reason why GI's RPG coverage has suddenly improved so much... ;D

It looks really interesting - I will probably stop looking at things about this game from here on in. I like to go into the things I love blind.

88  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What are your Final Fantasy memories? on: August 30, 2012, 05:49:09 PM
I remember the Y2K scare and trying to beat FF8 before midnight when supposedly all the power in the world would go out and computers would fail, etc. Was such a thrill as I was like 13 or 14 years old at the time, I did actually bat it before midnight.

Heh OT but I remember someone saying that memory cards could/would get erased during Y2K so I went around and pulled all of my memory cards out of my playstation just to make sure.  I was chugging through Grandia 1 since I got it for Christmas and didn't want to lose my save.

Haha, I love this! I remember unplugging all of my electronics too. XD I also remember being at a friend's house, hunkered down in the corner with one eye trained on the TV, fearfully awaiting the end of the world at midnight. Never mind that the clock had already struck 12 in many places around the world...

Needless to say, I was relieved. About my save data, I mean.

These are exactly the kinds of responses I was hoping for. Thanks for sharing, you guys! And don't stop!

Our Theatrhythm feature, which went up today, touches on the various ways that Final Fantasy has impacted my life. We're all RPGFans here, so I'd like to spark a discussion: what are your memories of Final Fantasy? Did you miss your junior prom because you had just reached Ultimecia's Castle and you couldn't tear yourself away from the TV? Did you listen to a burned CD full of FFVII music as you walked to school every day back in 7th grade? Did you stay up all night, finally triumphing over the Ark Angels in FFXI just as the sun began to rise? Was the release date of FFIX the same day you met a lifelong friend? Whether your story relates to a particular game or is just related to the series in general, I'd love to hear about the way Final Fantasy (and even RPGs in general) have affected you.

You read my tale, so let me hear yours! :)
