6016  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: June 01, 2010, 07:15:52 PM
Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy - I don't like the third one all too much....dunno why.  Otherwise, its a tip-top seires.

Moon - awesome; always love a good space suspense flick.  Nice twist, and quite eerie.

Sunshine - watched this after Moon.  Another space opera/horror.  The last 20 minutes of this movie ALWAYS has me on the edge of the seat; Danny Boyle is a visionary director and I want his babies... And Cilian Murphey's.

Mission: Impossible - I like it... I find the plot and writing could have been tweaked.  But overall, pretty good.

National Treasure - guilty pleasure.  Surprisingly entertaining, despite the hardcore Mission: Impossible Americana; fun mystery and put together in a "cute" fashion of riddles.

Sense & Sensibility - I don't know... if I was a more typical girl who clubbed and partied and said "like" as every second word, I'd laugh in this movie's face for it's "fine British elegance and etiquette".  You know, where you go on about "the dervishes are quite ripe this time of year, it would be lovely to walk to Winchestershire and enjoy the scent of lavender to some fine tea".  Jane Austen adaptation aren't half bad and I heard a lot about this one.  Excellent as well, and its nice to see Gregory House ten years younger, speaking his native...accent, but still being smartass.  Good flick, not for everyone.

Glengarry Glen Ross - I could tell this was written as a play even before reading that it in fact was.  Awesome movie, and one of the best cast ensembles ever.

Gladiator - there are few movies I never get sick of.

The Other Boleyn Girl - awful.  The eye candy of Johansson and Portman is good enough, both are decent actresses.  But Eric Bana is cast off so the sisters can have their cat fight while they spit out babies for Henry Tudor.  Boring, and I felt it didn't emphasize on the right parts - despite the content for a good story.

This is what happens when kids dont have nintendos

I support this theory because I'm too broke to pay for dirty addictions (aside gaming). =(

Sorry, but I made up the part about the belts.

Awww.. =(((

And yaaay.  Another installment to the most pretentious game series; filled with the things that gets Tetsuya hot and bothered (belts and stupid hair-dos), and Disney joining along for the ride.  And somewhere having friendship, hearts, darkness becoming deus ex machina's to save the day + twist ending with some evil.

Where's my HD FFVI remake?

Effin A.

I don't mean to put it up on a pedastal, but IMO, FF6 deserves next-gen treatment.

As much as I love some of the crap on YouTube, there is also this kinda of stuff that is viewed, worldwide, by more than 100,000 people. *facepalm*.  Gotta love those teens who use "I" and "like" much, much more than necessary.

I was in tears by the end; something between "you" and "shitty" and "dog" had me dying of laughter.

A remake would rake in cash for Squeenix like crazy though.  I'd sure as hell buy a copy.

Thats why the issue is constantly brought up.  Even if there ARE a bunch who would prefer a new game, are you telling me you would't buy the enhanced remake?  If you have the will-power, alright, kudos to you - but the thing is the demand behind this product.

I'm mostly worried about the state of more typical RPGs in general.  I consider it one reason behind why Tales of Vesperia was being so loved - but it is hard to render a pretty enough world map, and it is hard to render a nice enough town.
6022  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Food for FF7 Thought! on: May 31, 2010, 01:16:57 AM
I think it's funny that the OP rips on FFXIII for being linear and then pretends that FF7 isn't just because it has a world map.

Excellent point. Almost all JRPGs are linear. It's just the sidequests and little things that trick you into thinking otherwise.

OP mentions now that FF13 was basically void of any good sidequests.  FF13 was a line, and Pulse was a poor excuse to deviate from that (because, after youre done, you commence with the line again).

It was more than a world map, it was a sidequest to hit up wutai, it was an optional boss in the sea, and it was gold saucer.  Unless you're happy with grinding for upgrading items, and fighting monsters, I was unfullfiled.

EDIT: damn... Thanks Lev, haha, I was a minute too late. =(

Wada apparently commented on this himself, and I'm paraphrasing: "An FF7 remake would take ten times as long as FF13".

I can see that.  Given the linear piece of shit the world of FF13 delivered us, and that took them 3-4 years, how would they make an entire world?  Does this sort of establish a new ground for RPGs?  Since attention to "sick detail" and graphics is so, so prioritized this generation, do we lose some of that hope of old world-map RPG goodness (let alone a FF7 remake in particular).

I think I can assume many of us would dig an FF7 remake - would it be worth sacrificing attention to graphical detail (knowing Squeenix would still pump in as much as they could) for the full game experience?  Or would you go for a remake in design (ie; point and click map).

Tales of Vesperia seemed to have pulled it off - but with lovely anime graphics that, lets assume, take no where near as much time as FF13's high level of graphics.

I did enjoy FF13 - but I am extremely disappointed with the end-product of so many years of "hard" work.
Do you think Square Enix are just good at wasting time on less-important parts of the game (ie; graphics, extensive FMVs, battle system that is all over the place).

Sorry, I'm kind of all over the place with this topic... but I hope you get where I am going with this (I'm looking at YOU, pain in the ass RPGFan member people who love being smart asses).
6024  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs with the best: Story, Characters, Atmosphere, and Plot twists? on: May 30, 2010, 08:56:06 PM
Story: Chrono Series (I think Cross is extremely under appreciated, especially with its strength as a sequel), Terranigma (SNES game with story powerful enough to be in a best of topic?  A rare-earned point for early console story telling), Tales of the Abyss (as discussed a number of topics ago), Nier (based on simple premises executed effectively), Breath of Fire Series (kinda excluding the first title though), Final Fantasy VI and VII.  These are the most immediate games that come to my head at least.

Characters:  Tales of the Abyss (good backstories, great voicework brought it out even better), Final Fantasy VI (you kinda get a nice spectrum of characters here), Persona games also tend to tack of personalities of every sort making an enjoyable cast filled with chemistry.

Plot Twists: Baten Kaitos had me 'omg' a few times.  Abyss, as well.  Umm.Chrono Cross. Not much really - I love a good wtf moment but hard to remmeber memorable ones.  Breath of Fire II-V.  Digital Devil Saga had me wow-ed

Atmosphere: Baten Kaitos (essentially walking about in heavenly atmospheres sinse its all in the sky), Breath of Fire V (the dark gloom is well balanced out into much more), Wild Arms I-V (a western series that effectively branched out when it needed to.).  Nier (apocalyptic work, sand town, beach, a trippy forest, a mechanical dungeon, and a town who's haunting atmosphere and chilling sound does nothing short of astound and add to how on-the-verge its immediate destruction feels imminent.  Also, to see "past remnants" unused (lamp post?) just adds a smile when thinking about the world in which Nier works off of).

From what I've heard of the music so far, it's practically identical to the original.  That's not a complaint. \m/

Its all about "Battle Theme 2"

I've sold and bought games on cheapassgamer before, but only traded once here.

Thanks so much for the offer Dasch.  I'll remember it, too.  We should keep in touch and just trade games, eliminating game purshase costs by half; buying itonce between the two of us haha

Wahoo!  Successful trade with Fei.  Hopefully shipping goes alright. =)

Haha, anyone else on here do game trades or am I entirely new to it?

I found the box, which has the manual and everything (even the plastic sleeve the game comes in, various mail in crap) and everything is in great condition.  The game works, all my saves are still there (if the boy is weak against spoilers, I suppose you'll have to start a new game three times and save over them, as there is no option to delete saves directly).

As for pricing...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002BRYIJY/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000LY4IDK/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

...see what I did there?  hehehe.  If you don't want to trade, it looks like used with everything included is going for $50... I can only imagine that the price will go up, and that Nier's will only go down.  Honestly, I don't know how to deal with currency from other countries, so I'd prefer a trade, but I understand that you are probably still actually playing Nier.

Why aren't you just buying it off Amazon, anyway?  Fear of a bootleg?

I DO see what you did there!

You want to trade FFVI for Nier then?  I'm cool with that - I've seen all endings and did all the quests I wanted (fuck you, fish!).

It's an absolutely awesome game, and though I don't want to 100% trade it, its worth it for my buddy. I've gotten from it what I can.
BUT, FYI its X360.

If thats a problem then the $$ is fine.

And yeah, I don't want to do amazon.  I've heard there are too many bootlegs being sold (an FFVI cartridge with FFIV sprite art on it... =/  )s
6030  The Rest / The Bazaar / Re: Does anyone have FFVI (GBA)? Birthday boy driving me nuts on: May 27, 2010, 03:33:15 PM
So long as she works, like I said, bootlegs were no-no-notorious (see what I did thar?).

I don't mean to seem untrusting, but I'm just trying to protect my own ass and save some money.

Does it work and save the game properly?

If so...How much would you like? =)
