Number Two's eyes narrowed and became what are known in the Shouting and Killing People trade as cold slits, the idea presumable being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.

If somebody didn't want to be interrupted while reading, they'd read at home. :P

Some people like the ambiance

I find it distracting.  I find myself looking at other people and the room around me.

By this point all women are pretty much beyond my understanding. One time I met a girl from the internet. She had mentioned she liked Star Wars in her profile so I tried to explain to her how good I was at saber dueling in Jedi Academy (Like really, really good) and she just kind of didn't give a shit. Why should I, an extremely skilled gamer, not be able to boast about what I'm good at just because she's a 'woman'? Anyways I moved on from the unnecessary desires for women to focus more on useful hobbies. Stuff like video games, larping and comic books. Stuff that won't judge me on my hobbies because they aren't "cool".

THe worst thing about dating is that there is that creepy part where you sometimes can't be yourself.  Or at least shouldn't right away.

I don't really tell people straight off that bat I have anime stuff in my house, or that I'm a pretty big geek.  Instead I dress up, wear stylish clothes, put on makeup, etc. Even though the poor stereotype geek has a woman wearing videogame tshirts and eating chips.

You kinda have to peacock yourself a little bit; wear things that look good rather than a size too big (even if it is *that* cozy lucky shirt :)

I got dates when I started to come out of shell; when I started to dress up and speak more openly.  I like video games, I like movies... but now I try to incorporate what everyone else likes too; so I'm not  completely ignorant to the world and people around me.  I like the occasional jpop, some on "grandma's" classical music (at least, thats how my friends dub the genre), I love the fantasy genre... but I also like hockey (key ticket to social conversations in canada), I love a good club beat, I watch the news and I dig new clothes.

You gotta be open-minded; I like star wars too, but it isn't the end-all and be-all of conversation starters if two people like it.  A lotta people like starwars - but my heart isn't sold on it.

You gotta be a good date.  Thats being yourself, but catching on what the other person is interested in and relfecting on their "social style".  I usually have barely anything in common with the fellas I date... social styles worked out though - my current boyfriend is a dork and it makes me laugh all the time

I agree pretty much.  I love how it touched on salvation and redemption and all that what not.  THe island's mysteries don't really feel to concluded and that one of my favorite parts of the show.  I didn't feel any sort of threat from the Man in Black.  His existence was a threat to humanity and so was the light shimmering light - but it didn't matter.  He just wanted to leave, but no one would let him.  I got distracted mid episode; so did they ever explain this?
It was a fucked up island- but not enough answers explaining its origin.

We have a great character conclusion- but I felt the epilogue was lacking.

As soon as it ended, I thought it interesting how Ben decided to stay behind - continue his "purgatory" trial I suppose.

Is it safe to say that the "flash sideways" was further in the future, when all the characters had died (and they've just been running amock in the afterlife/purgatory)?  They just needed to find each other to reach heaven/nirvana?
Meanwhile Hurley and Ben remained to protect shimmering life light?

I give the ending a flat 7/10.

It IS a good ending.  Jack superman-punch on Locke and their fight is awesome.
EVERYTHING is great, leading to an AMAZING finale - but then we get the cliche "we're all dead" bit; a thought audiences have danced around since season 1.

What's great is that it helps give closure to the majority of main characters in a piss-perfect way.
What I HATED was how it completely disregards much of the islands oddities - in fact, if not ALL.  The mystery and myth is no where NEAR solved, and the ending almost has the omitted.  The flash-sideways still makes no sense, and even moreso after what it leads to.

The drama and relations are extrmeley touching - but, and stop me if I'm wrong, we stay for the mystery.
Time and Space - meh, works itself out, no paradoxes in the horizon
Smoke Monster - who cares
Jacob - no point
Magic Jack - there was magic?
Super Secret Temple - fuck it
Jack's son? - lol wife swap (2x) then he's done
The "Rules" - no running beside pool lol... =(
Numbers (ie; 108) - Hurley will never know

Worse yet is there is no sort of epilogue to the Hurley and Ben bit. We're given the first page to a great book, and don't get so much as an introduction.

The show needs a proper epilogue.

ANYWAYS.
I digress.
If anything, the finale emphasizes Jack's role in the midst of things.  Actually, amongst everything.  We see the story for everyone, see how they connect, see how they're related - but Jack was always the leading man.

I guess whatever on the island - actually happened.  Jack died a hero, Kate leaves, Hurl and Ben take over protecting super island secrets (poorly covered).  But, I guess for a series that spent SO MUCH time with character development, they touched on an "everybody's happy" approach where they pretty much have a big group party ...in heaven.

Another date I went on was with a fella who I ended up paying the date for - twice, driving him home - twice, and then he still had the balls to ask for a kiss. >=(

Let's be real...why is this bad?  Why is it not okay for the girl to pay?  Hell, why is it not okay for the girl to pay the first time, or the second time, before it becomes a steady thing?  That's what this post seems to be implying to me.  Maybe if the guy was a creep, that's one thing, but if you genuinely liked the guy, it doesn't seem terrible that he doesn't pay for the first date at all.  This to me just feels like one of those double standards.

I prefer splits the first time around.  Or in regards to Din's post (I follow the same principles), HE asked for the date that I ended up paying for, then I played taxi to his house.  The first time I get it, but I felt like a chump paying for the second date (he asked again too).
I am an extremely fair person, I even bought my boyfriend's parents some takeout - the money doesn't matter, its the paying ethics. :P

So dating advice - Don't ask for a date and make her pay!! =((((

I find a nice general tip is to have some ambition.  I love a guy who is striving for something.

Usually I have a set of lines/anecdotes that seem to work. For one, when they ask what I do, I like to be funny and say "I'm a shepard".  Surprisingly, people are extremely gullible and believe this (I live in a city beside Toronto, a smaller city, but void of any sheep).  Its fun too see how much you can lie. =/

I went out with a male model for a few dates.  He was an emotional rollercoaster - it sucked.
I then flirted with my barista at the coffee shop I go to,  gave him my number.  We've been dating a year and a half.
Funny the way it is.

I also once went on a blind date.  It was awful (except the movie, Casino Royale =).  After the movie, some bad conversation, and few things in common, he asked if I wanted to grab a bite to eat... I don't know why, I think I had a lapse in smooth judgment, but I said "I can't, I reallly gotta go to the bathroom" - bad and awkward excuse.

Another date I went on was with a fella who I ended up paying the date for - twice, driving him home - twice, and then he still had the balls to ask for a kiss. >=(

The worst part about VP1 was how stupid the ending was. The good ending, that is.

Then again I dont think Tri-Ace knows how to write a good ending..

They're happy even if they lack substance and proper explanations.  Beats a Hamlet ending (remember WA4?)

Wait... WA4? wild arms 4? As far as i know Tri-Ace didn't had anything to do with WA4.... but yeah , WA4's ending sucked so much, god >_>

I didn't mean to imply that TriAce and WA4 *are* related.  Just trying peg an example.

I have a confession: I own VP2 but I have never played it. Why? Well firstly because my TV is broken rendering PS2 and Wii games unplayable.

Is there a spoiler free guide for the game anywhere in terms of not fucking up and getting a bad ending, like the first game?

There are two ending.  But they're exactly the same except you see a certain character extra playing a minor/vital (depends on how fan-boy you are) role.

And Gen Eric Gui I mentioned the recruitment part in my post.  Go read. =)
The only thing I didn't like about the VP1 style of character recruitment was the fact it was a pretty lengthy process.  Getting the best ending was no picnic either (plenty...PLENTY of room for error).
Otherwise, triace truly surprised me; their story telling that time around was damn near top-notch.  Lenneth's someone mono-tones voice even grew on me (loved having the same actress back the second go around)

Blood of Bahamut I hear is insanely hard.  Looks awesome though.

Some Bringer was really cool.  Simple, but cool.  Its a lot like Secret of Mana if you want a comparison.

Tales of Hearts/Innocence would be freaking awesome (best traditional consistent goodness)
6089  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nier on: May 19, 2010, 09:18:22 PM
Anyone else sickened by the sheer amount of negative word-of-mouth press for this game? It also seems to be pouring out of those who haven't even played it yet...

I noticed that.

Pro reviewers seem to *hate* this game.  Normal, at-home gamers adore it to some extent.
The game is by no means good...but by god is it addictive.

Golden Sun is a no-brainer.  Can't wait.

I don't think they'd pass up on a Ghibli/Lvl5 game.  Ghibli flicks win bloody oscars here.
