Persona 3 FES, and P4 are under 20 on amazon...

Dare I?

Should I get those two or Radiant Historia?

Caution, young one.  You got pretty pissy with DDS' dungeon crawling.
Though, I think P3fes and P4 fix most of that, the story is infinitely better (arguably not on the fes part though).  From everyone else: they'll probably say yes; I say yes, but with caution (I seem to be the only one here who rates the persona series as "above average"/10, unlike everyone elses "SUPERMAZINGFANTASTICO"/10).

I'm not sure how long the sale would last, but I think it's a deal of the day thing. I saw it via the news feed from RPGfan on facebook.

I tried my hand at SMT with strange journey and DDS1... wasn't my cup of tea so maybe I better slide on this

6483  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Aw crap, it's Pokemon all over again... on: April 19, 2011, 12:02:16 AM
This time with mid-20th century mystery-puzzle titles.

- Layton (the instigator)
- Dr. Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights (which kinda looks cool; but I am bias, Lautrec has a sick-ass 'stache)
- And now Namco Bandai's Treasure Report.

I don't know how i feel about this.... it is a blatant attempt to join in on the popularity of the series, and I love the blend of styles going into this (I love the mid 20th c. era), and I love the highly under-appreciated "mystery genre".  But c'mon? Thinking about it though, I personally find Layton boring when it comes to it's core (some of the puzzles are ridiculously stupid logic, and it gets annoying where you catch every fucking townsfolk during their mid-daily crossword puzzle they can't goddamn figure out).  I'm curious if these titles will take a more active approach in problem solving than simply pictures and A, B, C, D options.

I'm torn.

Thoughts?

I'll be honest. For all the defending I did for the game I just traded it in today; having only played about 10 hours worth. I wasn't particularly disgusted or dissatisfied with it; but with all the things I want to do/need to do during a week AT3 really didn't justify being something to waste 4+ hours on every so often. Every time I thought about the game I could simply find no motivation or desire to play it. Take that as you will.

On the contrary to ..whatever, how honourable to admit that!  I probably wouldn't; I'm a pussy like that who feels the need to save face about such things.  ...d'oh.

I kinda had that with AT2; it was good, just not enough.  I loved nearly everything about it, but the gameplay was such, such, such a drag after so long (I still have it's artbook though haha).

And yeah, the embarassing and perverted strip scenes are enough to make me avoid it.  Likewise, CDFN, for the reason I wouldn't know how to explain that shit to people other than I'm a big freak who wants an anime body pillow.

What's the ratio of non-fat kids to fat kids?

:1  <-- while writing a ratio, I just realized that looks like a horizontal smiley for a fat kids mouth, chubby cheeks 'n all.

Ratio depends on what's "fat". I'd say 1:1 ish depending where in the world you are (insert Ethiopia joke here).

Self-pity

No idea your name was Steph.

Anyways, homework sucks. I'm going back to work now. Bye.

Now you know.  The "self pity" made me giggle. x)
Shut it though, I am shneriously sad. =(

Typical pre-exam Dice panic

Honey, you will do great. :)

Aw, Star, thank you!  Your version of my quote made me giggle too.  You're my first and only gay friend[?] and I couldn't be happier. x)

What's the exam in?

I dislike self-pity, so...

Anyways, I need a gay friend. Star, do you want to be my gay friend?

It's not self pity, it's panic. :D

Did I just saw a KO-N reference in Persona? OK, fuck this I'm out of here.

If you mean the heart-hand thing, most Japanese schoolgirls/idols are notorious for that.

Sweet Jesus I would rather slit my own throat with a butter knife than write another essay ever again.

My sentiments for exams.  They're bullshit.  I make an effort to forget everything after one exam so I can pack in for the next one, so fuck everything I learned.
6491  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: character development on: April 18, 2011, 01:07:06 AM
It's kind of a hard question to answer, and a real "to each his own" sort of dilemma and I'm not exactly sure how you can't objectively say what really qualifies.  I think most games prioritize other things than story and deep characterizations.  Anyway, you get this kind of stuff across most story medium's,good characters, bad ones, good story, bad ones, and some meeting up of both or none, or a bit of all.

Find me a game with EXCELLENT character development and, no matter, you'll probably get someone to argue against it.  I don't get all the fuss on the topic.  Very few games pull of anything excellently, and most "good games" are a dime a dozen anyways (as it should be).

All in all, I'm not big on characterization, a good story is what can keep my awake at night thinking it, but rarely the people unless they're tied to the big drama of the story.  One thing I hate about character development is how "tacked on" it usually is.  By some fantastic coincidence in FF7, theres a part where you just happen to visit places meaningful to your part, where you just gotta stick your nose into and side-track from the point a bit.  I give Vesperia credit on that, not many titles do a more "here and now" perspective (unlike Abyss' famous past-expose on each main character).

I just wonder; when developing, what comes first?  The story concept or the gameplay concept?

So from what it looks like, this is the Tell Us About What You're Playing Thread? Is it?

I have no idea, I just talk about boobs on this thread.

Am I wrong?

Yes

Will I be hated for this post?

The rest of the forum goers are now grabbing pitchforks as I type this. Me, I'm just making a vanilla cream pie, so you wont have to worry about me.

This is a new and scary forum. Why can't we just talk about what games we're playing right now? And boobs too, DPK. Boobs can be nice on occasion.

Talking about games is what the Game Journal is for.  This is for REEEL LAAIFE stuff.  Though it can involve "I sat on my ass and played games", you could probably also mention what you ate (Star/Yoda), philosphy and self and other loathing (Mesh), disturbing job stories (Leyv) or the lack of life you have because you study all the goddamn time (several of us, I'm sure, but I count myself here as well).
6493  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: character development on: April 18, 2011, 12:09:08 AM
Tales of's (Symphonia up), Trails in the Sky, Radiant Historia, Personas, Star Ocean (plot is in the negatives though), Suikodens (surprisingly), Valk Profile, Nier, um what else, the FF's if you havent played one by now.  I think these are all considerably deep.  Hell, sometimes the one saving grace of a poor plot comes in the form of it's characters.

So far the only SO character I found even remotely interesting is Maria. Also when you say Symphonia up do you mean all the games between Symphonia and the latest one (including such gems as Legendia and two of the three DS games) or just the ones done by the Symphonia team?

Both teams do jolly good work.   Vesperia has probably the worst told story ever, but the characters are interesting enough (the ones that are developed).

Star Ocean is a mixed bag, but given the choice, SO's characters outshine their stories... actually this can be said for most of Tri-Ace.

I have Chrono Cross if you wanted.  Might be out for PSN soon, and it's still pretty cheap on eBay (hence why I have it).
