I actually would prefer that DLC be limited to cosmetic bullshit.  Then I can safely ignore it.

What's wrong with wanting my games to be complete out of the box?

Good point. :(

Clearly paying $70 ain't enough no mo'.

I just watched Donnie Brasco one AMC.  ...it was TV, so it meant a lot "Frick You" and "Are you out of your freaking mind".  Kinda funny.  I love this movie though.  Al Pacino and Depp made a great dynamic... at least, a helluva lot better than when Pacino did "Scent of a Woman", where it was mostly him just yelling at Chris O'Donnel.

Also watched While You Were Sleeping because I'm girly like that.  Bill Pullman is so nice. <3

If lag is fixed, Odin Sphere would be great (despite the end-game getting pretty depressing).  Okami would be awesome.  Hell, this could be potentially great.

Well, I'm about half way through both games. I think I'm going to return it. I just don't feel it's a big enough improvement from the PS2 versions to justify my $50. I think I'd just be as happy plugging in my old PS2 and playing them.

Did you watch the first video of the bonus content? When you're seeing the original version and the newer one compared on your screen in real time, you can really see how much better they actually look.

I see no point in playing the PS2 version of either of these games when they look so much better in HD. It makes no sense to me.

Haha oh god does it ever.  I booted up the PS2 version, looks terribly tiny on an HD TV.  I don't think I can go back to standard unless wanting to relive PS2's golden classics.  But when you're poor, money back is always nice, so I can sympathize.  And I can confirm myself, the gripping was nerfed too.  I beat the first Colossus in a third of the time than in the PS3 version.

HM, for the sake of money back I might do the same.  ICO is great and all but Shadow is the one with better staying power, and I got the PS2 one (so sue me, I got this for the HD opportunity and to trophy it up).  But this was only a $40 game... can't say I'm expecting much back.  If it's too little (around +/- $10) then forgert it.

hehe "forgert".  I'm not fixing that one.  It's furry yogurt?
6594  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on: October 02, 2011, 07:58:26 PM
I played Twilight on the Gamecube, as I thought it was the way for it be (eat ass, right handed Link).  I thought it served well for that era, and considered the wii port as a mere "perk" to finally having some control of link, but definitely not a necessity.  It's like Little Big Planet for the PS3 Move -- the original is fine, the move controls are a perk and added feature, but not necessary.

And I don't get what the complaining is about.  Wolf Link was still used even after necessary and in fact made getting around faster.  They had portions where either form was necessary, even if it wasn't a continuous use of the dual-form dynamic.  What did it really matter?  It's not like he was the one with the creative tool arsenal, and was fun enough when you needed to explore as him.

I fucking hate the boomerang, and like it best when it's there-and-back (old-style), and not looping around (3D).
The fact that some items are useless happens only because you're given the freedom to pick and choose what dungeon you want to do, so they give you dungeon-specific tools that will allow that freedom (and bring it all together for use in the main field and the last two big dungeons).

Wind Waker still hits a 7-dungeon mark.  Sadly, that stupid fortress you're basically item-less for is what counts for this to work (the full 8, if it's counted twice).  But nevertheless, you get the exchange to explore islands, ships, subs, squids, and collecting treasure and triforce pieces.  Not the best compensation, but certainly better exploring than the much beloved "secrets" in Ocarina of time which involved re-used grottos.

Most Zelda games too, in the problem you cited with Minish Cap, have periods of traveling and working to getting into new dungeon, and finally hitting that dungeon.  If you have a problem with that, it's generally a flaw with what you don't like in the series (hell, me too at times).  But most Zelda games usually have you do or explore some shit region before you can get further.

I don't get why complain about kinstones.  They're "alright".  Generally made it better than simply finding chest in the field, at least they make you work for some goal.  My only major complaint with the series by this point, which looks like it'll be remedied soon enough, is the lack of shit to buy when rupees come in boat-load fulls throughout the games.

All in all, I admire that the Zelda series stays to it's routes but still tries it's best to be fresh where it can.  I love the old Zeldas... all 3 that were actually "pretty damn good" (sorry NES ones, there's classic, but there's also "dated"; the ones here I mean are LttP, LA, and OoT), but the other titles, to me, have been merely way to add... ...I dunno, cool new fucking rims to add the wheel that worked so well.  I personally have no beef anyways, nostalgia goggles haven't really clouded me none.  To each their own?
6595  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The NEW Game Journal on: October 02, 2011, 05:45:59 PM
I loved BBS.  I hate how they are reluctant to make a 3rd titles as they cash cow the other hand held titles for all they're worth, even when they suck.  BBS is the only proper one.  The only thing I hated about Birth By Sleep, aside from overly fluffy cutscenes, was that to move on in Mirage Arena you HAVE to advance in their stupid racing game... I swear that shit is less intuitive than Mario Kart on the SNES.

The secret bosses for that game, if you plan to do them, good luck.  You may wear out your dodge button. :P

Well i think a lot of Rap at least Japanese rap has a more techonoish beat to it. Here's an example Though yeah it's hard to even define what it even is with only 18 seconds of it, but this clip of it is rap, but it could be a small part of the song as a whole rather than it being like that the whole time.

When I think of inappropriate rap in a JRPG, I think of SO3. ("My name is Fayt Leingod! You just mortally wounded my father! Prepare to die!" *cue scrub encounter set to J-Rap*).

SO DANCE
WHILE I PUT YOU IN A TRANCE
SENSATION
FEEL THE VIBRATION

I SAID HEY, HEY, HEY.

I think Sakuraba used that sample in another song later on too.

How does the time attack stuff work? Do you just select a guy?

I maxed out the health bar but I'm having trouble find all the fruit/lizards/saves. It feels like I hit all the map but I still haven't gotten all the saves.

Haha I was comparing yours and my trophies this morning, I'm glad you got the bird one!  I can't believe you maxed out health though!! Right after the 1st colossus I went hunting for health and lizards and stopped after that.

I dunno which you're missing, but there are a ton of save shrines in the South East part of the map, peculiar because there's really nothing there.  Lizards roam in handfuls there too.

Time attack is just in that main chamber with the stone statues.  You pray in front of them with O and it shows you the data you need to know.  You get special items for completing them, one of them is a lizard map, and better items to make shit easier... unfortunately, none to do with your grip ability. :(

Now now, Gears of War has a Commander Dom skin for a preorder bonus.  Anyways, if it's free and only at the cost of down-payment for a pre-order, then whatever.

It's funny how people love cosplay in their games too.
6599  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on: October 02, 2011, 03:27:57 PM
Zelda game's aren't perfect, but I'm optimistic about this one. My only worry is that Nintendo EAD has lost their little magical charm in the Zelda series.

In comparison to Link's Awakening, Link to the Past, Ocarina of TIme, and Majora's Mask, something magical just felt missing from the newer games, both console and handheld. Perhaps that's just my own growing up.

At least Skyward Sword isn't Nintendo playing it safe again like they have done with a few series in the Wii era. The most fun and underutilized feature in Twilight Princess was aiming with the infra-red pointer on the Wii Remote. These Wii+ controls could really push the series to a whole new awesome level.

You don't really know a classic while you're playing it do you?

I thought, and so do many others, that Twilight Princess was near perfection of what Zelda is.  Certainly atmospherically it was.  "Whatever is missing" is somewhat arbitrary and ambiguous, but I thought that one was indeed a classic.  And while I do think Phantom Tracks and Spirit Glass or whatever were lacking (hell, it seems like Nintendo themselves kinda took the easy route with those and just made some shit off the wheels of Wind Waker), the Capcom ones were brilliant to say the least for a handheld adventure.

More than anything, I'll have faith in Nintendo.  More often than not they make one helluva good game with their "main hero" brands (ie; Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Kirby, whatev).

Beat it.

The 16th Colossus is not hard by any means, but the poor physics made it an absolute nightmare.  The colossus is static for the most part, but for some reason I was still teetering like I was on a rocking boat.  I even fell numerous times because of "glitchy flooring".  I'm not really enthused to take on time attack, I might just give it a go on the PS2 version instead.  Challenge is one thing, but this is waay too much based on luck and "hoping" to land a hit before the clock runs out.

I did time attack the 2nd colossus with a tricky tactics (take out a rear leg, quicker to scale him from there), and even with that I only had 30 seconds to spare -- he's one of the easy ones!

Haha sorry.  I love a good challenge, but I don't like stressing myself out for time limits... hate time-based challenges. =/
