I wonder when we'll actually focus on cracking down on guns than videogames.  Much harder to work up the courage to kill a man with your bare hands than it is a gun.

Ah well, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda.

I'm sure it will all be said, so I'll just post Stephen Colbert's thoughts on it:

I've upped my gym visits to 4-5 days a week, and do 10 minutes of cardio on arrival and after my workout now. I've lost about 10lbs total, though with the heavy lift training I'm gaining mass, leading me to be very surprised when I look at a scale and see 380 lbs...

Anyways, I feel better than ever, and am now bench pressing 260 lbs....1 time....with a seriously large amount of effort being used...

Well done! :D

Went to Toronto Raps game last night,  They lost but scored 100 points so free pizza!!

Eva 3.0: You Cannot (Re)Do

Hm.  I see the beef peeps have with it.  There's less action than 2.0 is a bit of a loss, but I can put that aside (for now).

I think what I didn't like was a lack of growth in the characters.  For one: The main cast is pretty pissy at Shinji, but it's hard to place their anger when you get a vague understanding of why; and this is made worse by the fact they're mad for something he didn't mean to do.  But, 14 years of living in pissy and shitty world due to one stubborn and childish boy may do that to you -- but I might just be making up excuses for them here, because it's not explained in the movie.  But I think what really annoyed me was Shinji himself who seems to enjoy playing the role of an "unlikable character"; and this time he's playing out what's basically the question of "what's inside Pandora's box?" (and SPOILER...it ain't good!).

I also hate the fact the revelations in the film are nothing new *. The big reveal about who Rei is a clone of is "revealed again" but in a different manner.  Despite Mari's strong debut, she's put on the back burner, literally playing support for Asuka 90% of the time.  Meanwhile, Asuka's mad all the time but in good spirits about fighting, and her foil, Rei, gives new meaning to "the silent treatment" by never being able to answer a fucking question even when you look her in the eyes (to counter this, she's actually "nicer" than previous Rei incarnations).   Gendo is still in one of two poses he's ever been drawn in (sitting and leaning with his fingers crossed), being mysterious, using his son (which reinforces Shinji's feelings of worthlessness and that he's become a self-fulfilling prophecy to), and missing his wife and trying to get her back (while ignoring his one and only son... ... ... clearly Shinji was an unintended pregnancy by this point, or even his own father doesn't like the man Shinji is becoming like the rest of the audience is).

The film is brilliantly animated and brilliantly scored (giving Ghibli a run for its money in both categories), but the lack of answers and lack of progress despite the 14 year time jump leave a lot more to be desired.

On the bright, Kaoru plays the most amusing and fascinatingly (short-lived) anime character that's been seen in a long time.  His ambiguously homosexual nature serves as one of the greatest supports a weak character like Shinji could ask for.  The relationship doesn't feel forced because Shinji is so fucked up; it's realistic in that just having anyone so kind, intimate, and understanding would probably make anyone blush.  I've always loved the question of whether his... um, at times over-the-top friendliness (i.e.; borderline homosexual undertones) were genuine or merely a means to an end.  The relationship played out differently here, and so do the means by which it progresses -- but the outcome is the same, and again the revelations vaguely explained.

It's hard to really decide what to make of the film; it's good but doesn't really try to do much with it despite the opportunity for doing so.  Regardless, Eva 2.0 was easily a stronger film as a whole.  I look forward to the final film and hope for a Happy Eva End to what is seriously the most big-ball-of-sad version of Earth to ever survive the Apocalypse.

*or maybe it's just been too long since I really bit into the series to really understand it (I really couldn't understand that plot any more than "THIRD IMPACT IS BAD AND WILL FUCK UP EARTH EVEN MORE THAN IT ALREADY IS IF IT HAPPENS").

Haha oh man.  What a mess.  For some reason I wanna see this show in the game when some NPC just says shit like "I am error" or "@&#YUHJDF&^@#".  Here's hoping it gets here in one piece.

Is there a way to turn off the annoying repetitive chatter after each battle? It's a bit obnoxious.

IT'S REYN TIME all the time!
6726  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: New Ghost in the Shell anime on: January 16, 2013, 10:33:42 AM
Oh, sure.

Just when I thought my interest in anime had finally completely dissipated. I've just stuck to old favorites for the last few years as nothing new has seemed interesting. Now I guess I'll have to check this out.

Haha I actually kinda sympathize with this.  I've become less and less interested myself.  This announcement has really made me happy, and I'm glad, quite the buzz on the net.

All I want to say is...I think you'd have made a better Raven.

Certainly not enough Ravens out there. x)
I do love the Yuri outfit anyways -- I can only wonder why you didn't opt for a wig though. :O
I'd kill to cosplay one day.  Swallow my pride and let the nerd in me shine out.

Or another iOS game.  If we're lucky(?) it might be a 3DSware title.

Apparently the source code had an iTunes link initially, so iOS is probably right.

Deaf twins going blind opt for euthanasia.  A sort of sad version of the typical euthanasia tale since this time "suffering" isn't coming from being terminally ill....  Just a choice they wanted since they were going to be deprived largely of their two most important senses...

Dunno how I feel, really.

Besides "Grave of the Fireflies" "Saikano" has be the next most depressing anime show I have seen.  Chaos;Head is crap. The VN was crap, and the anime even more so.

IIRC, the manga ended on a particularly disastrously sad ending.

One of few anime series' I really dig!

Playing with a buddy is probably the best way to play Res6.  Usually the goofy antics between you and a bud help smooth out (i.e. not notice) its flaws haha

And yeah, Sherry is so cute.  I love it when girls can rock that almost boy short hair.  She inspired the grey with white fur Winter jacket I got actually.

Twilight Princess

Easily, most stressful part in the game is racing the Wall Masters in the Palace.  I went into it blind, it's really tricky to figure it out that way, some of the enemy surprises aren't too nice either.  Worst part is probably that horrific noise that plays when it gets close.... SHWEEE SHWEEE SHWEEE SHWEE~!!  *SMACK*

Ni no Kuni is actually a weird deal for me.

See I actually somewhat like Miyazaki films. The visuals provide a nice little bit of surrealism that holds a unique charm even amongst the weird, experimental stuff anime artists do sometimes...but personally I think it only works in bursts. Little 1-2 hour films? Perfect match. A 40+ hour RPG? That completely turns me off. The concept of looking at that art style for that long over a singular story pretty much ensures I'll likely never even try the game. It's a weird pet peeve that this particular work seems to have triggered.

Also I doubly don't understand the appeal it has around here simply because I can recall several times where we've griped about Japan's absolute obsession with shoehorning in 17-belows in as the protagonists with tag-along cutesy mascots into nearly all of their JRPG work. But they throw a game at us with an even younger cast list and a crapton of the mascot types littering the world and somehow that's palatable...the hell? XD

I have more beef with Olivers [?] attire more than his age.  Brown-haired boy with Red cape and Blue tunic, while his mascot takes the other two primary colors on.  I think the main plot is endearing enough, and he seems pretty mature (not one of those headstrong JRPG heroes who acts before he thinks, but he seems like a kind and earnest kid).  That, and he misses his dead mum -- maybe it's the woman in me saying that, but I think it's a sweet plot point and has a different thing going for it than "save the world" as the only motivator.  Ghibli has always done the "stereotype" well, usually by throwing some curve ball to it or keeping things "simple and clean" while the rest of the anime world is getting more and more "whacky".  I agree otherwise about Ghibli, but I'm curious how a world will play it in regards to videogame playability.  If the reviews are strong and the curiosity is high, then I see no reason why not to be optimistic even if Ghibli isn't the most exciting collaborator for a videogame.

Kevadu: A point against the demo was, as mentioned in the topic, a complete lack of tutorials.  But yeah, controls worry me the most, my beef being how visible/swift enemy attacks are versus how sticky the controls are.  Personally, I've never found my opinions of a demo give me the same feeling as when I'm actually playing the complete thing.  Hard to explain, but I suppose an out of context can be a difficult thing to play, and for that I usually try to avoid demos.

Ah well, here's hoping I don't have to stick my foot in my mouth when the game comes out and I end up hating it.

Ni no Kuni ... [it has] blander gameplay compared to their better titles

lol, like what??  I stand of firm opinion that they have to be one of the best companies when it comes to hit-or-miss games.  When they hit, they hit a bullseye, but when they miss, it's because they missed their target by a full 180-degrees.

Also I noticed this before but didn't feel like mentioning it till now, but lol at XIII-3 not even getting a mention despite it being guaranteed to be released later this year.

This is Dice's complete lack of surprise...

Yeah, Squeenix is in a hole it can't dig itself out of with FF13-2-2.  And good on the public for being skeptical; the way they've treated the story for the 13 Saga will not only continue people's superstitions about the number "13" being unlucky, but prove even they've lost sight with what the hell they're doing.  EVen if the gameplay is good, the story (if 13-2 was any indicator) should be a big ball of nonsense.

Maybe I'll ask Mongoosey to buy and ship me a copy haha
