I want DLC of topless Joel "costume" (if it can be called that).
Would a game like this be 2p co-op though???  Wouldn't mind a buddy to go through it with (kinda works for it?).

If it's for PC, I'd bet on it keeping the 18+ stuff. Very few PC VNs do not contain some form of porn. It's sad, really.

What's so sad about sex? :|

It's sad they feel the need to include it when it has no relevance or importance to the story whatsoever. On the rare occasion it does, then I have no issue with it.

Ditto. Seeing creative freedom seriously compromised is lame, and it does cut both ways (forcing sex & violence where it's not intended, not just cutting it out when it's supposed to be there).

Also makes it a bit cleaner to cover and talk about somewhere like here.

Or it makes it... hilarious!
But yeah, I agree.

I know dick about the series, but I respect the new designs as a person with an "eye" for these sort of things.

Lots of people don't like the contemporary look, but quite frankly, the old designs were hardly outfits/hairstyles at all.  Certainly less awkward even if the art style in general is sort of....bland.

...still can't help but wonder how many people really wear turtlenecks these days, but hey, it works here.

I've heard TC is a bit bigger than FC, so comparatively I guess that's something of a break. Zero and Ao, yeah, those I'm most worried about, at least the first three are on PC with this one on PS3 and Vita.

SC is almost twice the length.  Someone on the XSeed forums affectionately posted the amount to give us a visual understanding of it (and important to remember that FC was already pretty text heavy).

Yggdrasil, if I were gay, I'd love you.

...screw it, I can love you and women too.

He doesn't have to be gay for you to love him

I refuse excitement till a possible localization announcement.

Pretty graphics for a developer who doesn't really dabble in the big HD models.

Curious: Yeah, are mobile/web browser games *this* big a deal in Japan??

A Shoryuken Christmas.  Definitely doesn't top Mongoosey's tree topper.

Good ol' Beanie!

This is Francois Brunelle: he takes pictures of people who look-alike, but are completely unrelated!

Expectations vs. Reality.  Also helps I'm a big Bugs Bunny fan. :)

Japanese method to multiplication.... why the fuck aren't we taught this???  You basically count how many times the lines intersect within the "bubbled percentage area".

German exam mistake.  Half a mark off??  Doesn't "hilarity" make up for any marks?!

FUN FACT. The uhhh, goblins? I dunno, in Condie Petie are speaking Scots!

Funny enough, that's a Ragtime mouse questions.  They're NOT Godlins, they're DWARFS!!!!  That's so, like, racist. D:

The party questions have not helped me at all.... I'M TORN.

Eiko vs Garnet: A hard one, I always preferred Garnet (Is it weird I've always thought of her as Garnet and not Dagger, even though she is called Dagger for much longer? Though in most of my runthroughs I now call her Garnet. "Don't call me Garnet, my name is Garnet now!"). Eiko has better White Magic and has Holy butttt, summons look cool dammit.

I think I slightly prefer Eiko for the better magic... her summons are a bit weirder though aren't they?  I may bring Eiko because I'm a big wuss who doesn't wanna do item healing... :(

Amarant vs Steiner vs Freya: Steiner. No question.

Yeah, I think I'm starting to see that.  Which makes me sad, because Steiner seems to have less variety than Freya, but she really can't take the hits (though her jumping in the air is great when in a pinch).  Amarant....he feels like a character that shouldn't suck, but he's just not up to snuff.

One flaw with the game I find is making the lead character a thief.  So not only are Zidane's stats better than the lot (the way most game heroes are), but you're usually wasting his precious turns trying to steal shit.

Anyways, oddly enough, I find Vivi too boring to tag along with the rest of the party...  He's token black...mage. (ok, bad joke).

S/he is handy (I'm levelling up against the grand dragon; Level 5 Death, insta-kill!!!), but I can't say I "get" him/her.  Like the Dag/Gar nuance, I usually just call Quina a girl.  Quina's apetite reminds me of mine: if I smell steak, I chase after it. Mm.  Also wondering if catching 100 frogs is worth my precious life the same way dodging lightning in FFX wasn't.

As for the Mognet sidequest: All you get is a fucking Protect Ring. Get that shit at the auction.

But they're so cute.  D:
But yeah... I'm not feeling it to go search.  I'm just kinda blue that this being my third run and I still haven't really done it.

Just as an aside: I could talk to the people in Conde Petie all day.  It's so fun to read their text out loud.

Final Fantasy IX
Pretty much doing the Chocobo world tour to get items.  Hmm trying to determine:
Eiko vs Garnet?
Amarant vs Steiner vs Freya?
Quina vs???

The moogle side quest is annoying, I'm missing 2 letters and I don't know where the hell where.  I heard the reward kinda sucks though...

You can tell whatever lies you need to tell yourself to get you through the day Clueless. Us lactose-efficient know whats up. ;)

Lets go skip our way to the ice cream shoppe, chocolate shakes on me!

I'm semi-lactose intolerant... but I don't let it stop me when a Sweetcar named Devour ( a strawberry coulis, berry and vanilla ice cream crepe) is sitting in front of me.  That, and the Moo-la-la (some chocolatey mess with Nutella Ice Cream).

I had a dream with Goosey and Yodes.  We fought off wild pigs.  Fuckers are vicious.

The imbalances comes from the fact that the difficult curve isn't smooth, it's all over the place. If you spend five minutes (not literally) doing side stuff, you can utterly break the game. That was my experience with them, anyway.

I'm sorta iffy on the difficulty curve argument.  I can definitely get why a steady difficulty is good to keep a good pace going, and sometimes I do like that when I just wanna glide through a game more leisurely... but I do like the challenge to stir things up.  I like when a game says: "hey, things are getting harder, what are you gonna do about it?".  I like being forced to do more than attack with my best attacks.
6838  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Square-Enix is teasing something. on: December 11, 2012, 02:18:22 AM
Someone didn't do a very good job balancing that system

It's a tri-Ace game.  They are as balanced as someone with two inner-ear infections.

Truth be told, I prefer it to be as breakable as all hell.

My bigger concern is whether breaking the game over my knee is worth the effort to break the game over my knee rather than to just play it straight (see: SO2; sure my entire party is level 100 and I have the components for the Eternal Sphere before the tourney, but what good is any of that when the remainder of disk 1 and a good chunk of disk 2 is completely littered with unwinnable boss fights and scripted losses when I could've spent far far less time progressing normally to have achieved the same effect).

Scripted battles are so annoying, and a cheap way at "artificially" creating gameplay.  Fucking FF4 was stupid for these, and a good way to not make a separate scene for the action either.  FF9 had about 5 separate bouts with Beatrix, none that could be won (I think the end of Disc 1 was essentially trying to get by her).  Star Ocean was a pain in the ass since it was a proper waiting game of literally running away from an over-powered foe.  Baten Kaitos had a few of these too (they were particularly fond of having you survive against super-bosses too, ones you'd have to immediately "heal" whenever someone got hit).
I mean, if you don't want me to win, then just say it...

I don't understand the balance bit with Tri-Ace games.  I always found it fair: if you use their in-game mechanics, you can trump your enemy, if you don't and try to grind like just about all other games, you'll probably lose.  In SO2, it's a pretty smooth ride, some bosses harder than others, but the final boss will be what gives you trouble (good on the *final* boss).  In SO3, the battles on the way to the big Dragon fight (Crossel?) are *extremely* difficult if you haven't made any effort to create weapons and just go along with the ones they throw you in game. VP wasn't so much hard as it was unforgiving to new folk; but those who stood through it can attest how enjoyable it is (and by god do I love it's version of a turn-based battle system what with #'d attacks and timing them).  Maybe it's just me, but I love Tri-Ace's idea of in-game balance.  SO4 had a uniquely punishing system: you could level to 100, or you can get 50% of the battle trophies for a unique character, prove you've given a damn in trying, then open up the level cap to 255 or whatever (you could beat the final boss within the 100 cap, but the post-game battles would ruin you).  I guess I got tired with games that spoon-feed you by making a "level up" or two being what make the difference between winning and not.  What fun is that?
6839  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Square-Enix is teasing something. on: December 10, 2012, 02:18:00 PM
Tri-Ace has never been good at plot or characters. When the story's good, they make it a pain to see the whole thing. Anyway, I actually enjoyed SO4 as well, but it was a combination of playing an excellent battle system and watching a funny-bad anime. I didn't like SO3 much because of the ridiculous plot twist, a big chunk of the plot was utterly meaningless and the characters tended towards being massively underdefined. The MP health thing was a huge pain as well.

MP thing was great.  I only had about 4 instances where I was MP killed.  IIRC, Freja in Sphere 211 was easier to kill with MP kill, so I thought it was awesomely misleading and different.  But yeah, it can be a pain in the butt (I guess I was just proud when I pulled off a kill that way).

I think VP was Tri-Ace's best attempt at story, bar none.  Even with all the love SO2 gets, it's plot it absolutely shit but one of those rare instances where the insane amount of "classic-ness" to it and the wonderful battle system get in the way of you noticing it too bad.

Either way, the SO series has a great atmosphere and general setting that allow great room for new ventures.  The whole sci-fi/fantasy is a lot of fun for great new settings.  And that's one thing SO4 got right, the scenery was pretty to look at.

If they make a SO5, I'd be completely OK with them retconning everything.
Or just do like FF and never consider the other games.

According to gamespot, SE is teasing a new Star Ocean.

You guys probably got it right. Even though I've had my gripes with SO3 and SO4 I'm still looking forward to the next one as in general I like Tri-Ace games.

As one of the five people on the planet who enjoyed SO4 despite its stupid characters, I'd be excited for a new entry in the series
