I'm still scratching my head as to why they insist on pushing more and more games in this world, given that direct sequels in FF seemed to have always done worse than the original, and FFXIII had a relatively mixed reception. Was this the plan all along or something?

I doubt it. XIII-2 begins with a huge retcon of the ending of XIII.

The music and gameplay of 13-2 were pretty damn good if it means anything.... unfortunately the rest was shit (mainly plot).

It also sucked that the instructional menu item you get after beating that semi boss takes almost 15 minutes to read through, coupled with the 5-6 minutes of boss fight if you're unfamiliar with the game ( everyone probably was), leaving you with 4-5 minutes to actually go through the demo. Most people don't like to replay demos, so if you're not into it yet, 5 minutes of actual play in the demo sours the experience quickly.

I just thought it was weird that they didn't give you the instructional menu until *after* the battle.

I would have liked one normal battle before being thrust into a boss fight in the forest chapter (I died at the boss, I didn't realize Oliver was linked to the monster's HP...yeah).  But the game was pretty easy to figure out otherwise.  I'm one of the worst gamers these days, I'll leave the game running and watch a TV show or movie (usually doing both at the same time), or reading an email or looking at the net and I still had time to beat the demo.

If you're banking on the strength of the story and the characters in a Level 5 game to make up for middling gameplay then you're making a sucker's bet. Honestly, I'll be genuinely surprised if this game doesn't feel like it was written by a 12-year old who's mother abandonment issues and lack of any sort of sex education dominate the choices used to fill out his disjointed narrative cobbled together from a mad-lib of random plot points.

Why you always gotta be so negative?

Yeaah.  Dunno when Level 5 had a game with excellent characters...

+ Pretty good battle system, simple, but to the point
+ That score!!!  Auuugh, great music~!
+ Background graphics
+ World Map graphics
+ Though they really only mentioned it for a minute of gameplay, I did like using magics to help that miserable guard or whatever.  I smell some good sidequest potential
+ I miss high-fantasy games. D:  So yay!  May get it just on that

+/- The mascot.  I dunno if I find his cockney accent and design to be darling or annoying.

- Character models are "meh".  Higher poly or just... I dunno, they're really simple looking, look odd amongst the scenery which is near flawless.  A bit more detail would have been swell anyways.  I realize even Ghibli designs aren't too expansive, but if there was any time it wouldn't have hurt it'd have been on a videogame
- Boss "super attacks" don't stand out too well, but even when I do...
- ...the battle controls are kind of sticky.  Dunno how crazy I am about running with the control stick then selecting options with the d-pad... (being an active-time battle system, I suspect running, stopping, and picking is a good suggestion).
- Story line is...?  It sounds sweet enough (the bit with the dead mum), so I'm curious how involving the plot will be otherwise.  But between Ghib/Lvl5?  I expect creativity if nothing else.

I actually heard it can get quite difficult too.

EDIT: *trying* to download now... why does new PSN store suck major garbage?  Why did it have to get a facelift anyways?  I liked the old one better.
I sound like an old woman.

What good editing can do to Star Trek TNG.
A surprisingly funny uneventful day aboard the USS Enterprise!

Game Informer January 2013 cover by Sam Spratt.

Dang, Fem Shep, Chief, and Connor look pretty bombin

the latest BATSY:
So I got the bluray and popped it in. And immediately I'm annoyed because this asshole Bane's voice is mixed to be 1000x louder than everything else. Why the fuck do they do shit like this? I have to turn the volume WAY down because he's too fucking loud.

Get fucked

I noticed that in theaters too.  I thought it was to compensate for the ...somewhat hard-to-understand accent[?] thing.  But it just makes it stand out in a bad way...  Kinda like in old movies where they'd dub over the musical number but the quality is clearly different.

Agreed.  :O

YAaaaay!  My long await for Res6 was NOT in vain! I like it lots! :D
6865  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Going back and reading old reviews, some great quotes on: December 04, 2012, 04:09:46 PM
Which reminds me... what the fuck is Tri-Ace even up to these days?? :S

And possibly another one of these.

Haha, the hell were the chances of that announcement popping up?

I sometimes look back at my old reviews and wonder, "What was I thinking?"  Of course, each review is an honest reflection of how I felt about that particular game at the time, so it does capture a legit moment.  It's like with music.  Some albums I wasn't really into when I first heard them, but listening to them weeks, months, even years later I think, "Wow!  This is brilliant!"  The opposite holds true too; there are some albums I loved immediately but don't listen to so much any more.

Curious, which reviews had that effect?

Rise of the Guardians: I'd have taken this over Wreck-it-Ralph any day.  Lots of fun, great play on ideas, visually stunning.  It can still hit cheese-territory (but the concept nearly asks for it), but the action and execution was great.  Major kudos to Dream Works on this one: this and How to Train your Dragon prove they know how to do a 3D-CG movie these days, and have the potential to hit with that emotional punch that people think only Pixar is capable of.

For some reason, I haven't thought much about Star Wars porn until right now.  But the funny shit dancing in my head right now is just grand.

Isn't there a porno named Star Wh*res?

I'm feeling like watching Zack & Miri all of a sudden.
6868  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Youtube on: December 04, 2012, 12:26:56 AM

Watching this reminded me of that one game that came out on the PS3 just recently.

All told, this is probably the better game.

I loved this part from it against the...um, evil polar bear yeti...as it screams out like a dinosaur?

God, I'm getting a flood of old ass PC games I played in the early-mid 90s that worked like hell even for computers that looked like crud.  DOS was like the coolest thing, it had sooo many crappy-awesome games.  Jill of the Jungle sounds like something that could/should come back.

Another really cool one Klyde.  I think I like the woodman one best of the three.

You're a furry?

Actually not true.

I already got the one kinky quirk

This only raises more questions.

Easily figured out, if you pay attention ;-)

People say that whenever I tell think I got a weird fetish.  I actually wonder if they really have.  As far as I know, I haven't revealed a damn thing.

Short, green skinned aliens with floppy ears.

Mind blown.

The problem with superawesome first dates is that the bar has been set too high. Like, way too too high.

Everytin' okay thurr? :/
If it means anything, most first dates are meant to be kinda awkward and all that.

Peco, again, I hear is a tank... I just don't know if it's ever really worth going through the effort (my general theory being: if you can beat Mikba, you can beat anyone -- even the last boss with ease).
Most seem to boil down to Ryu, Rei, Garr, and Momo.  Momo, as cute and wonderful as she is, made it painful to just *hope* her attack connects sometimes. >_o

Played some Radiant Historia.  I left the DS in my purse and then at some point I guess I reached for something inside and accidentally popped the cartridge out of the system...lost some progress. :(

I wonder what I should play over Winter holiday. :D
