There was a report on the news just now about thieves going out before Christmas and tailing mail trucks so they can go door-to-door and steal packages as they follow along.  Normally I'm against corporate welfare and other things that lead to excess taxation but I'd happily support government subsidization of rocket launchers mounted on the back of company trucks to fix this problem.  Fucking bastards.

News up in this neck of the woods had a similar story of the freaking Salvation Army toys bin was stolen from.  I really wish "justice" was more physical, because the thieves for that fully deserve a punch in the mouth.

I'm writing my paper.  Guy comes in and talks to me, I think he was trying to be impressive.  I love when out of the blue people start showing stuff off that you never even asked to see.  I get that at the store (EBGamestop) every so often too where -- out of the blue -- people start telling me about their gaming collection/achievements for a title I have no idea about or will never play.  Should I just be happy they're happy showing off I guess?

I'm going to Montreal next weekend.  I'm psyched as hell, a mini-vaycay from work!!!  It will be the first weekend I have had off from work in over a year. :)

^ Definitely.  I hate...HATE when games force you through battles that earn you as much EXP as a drop in a bucket.

Skyfall -   I don't understand the orgasm train this flick is riding on, but I'll blame reviewers for what seems like them circle-jerking to it and saying hows it's "the best Bond" or "remaking the franchise".
But nevertheless, a great movie.  I was happy to see a film more focused on M; Judi Dench deserves the love.  Bond Girl #2 had way too much eye makeup half the time, but Bond Girl #1 was wonderful (name slipping, in a rush as I write this).  Good movie, and I loved Bardem while Craig was in top form.
What!? This flick was so mediocre. I'll give credit to Naomie Harris (the first bond lady), and Judi Dench is always a good sell. Even Lord Voldemort was quite interesting in the movie, but the plot was so stale. Reminded me of Die Hard 4, which was bleh too. I liked the characters, especially the villian and that little...scene with bond when they first met. But the story never picked up, and Skyfall itself was a letdown (the term used itself I mean). Craig wins, but the writers should be fired.

The "revenge on M" plot was fantastic -- but i guess it wasn't really played up more than beyond that.... it was a murder/suicide he was going for, even despite the fancy gadgets Bardem had, the big blow up of HQ, the outstanding hacking, the publicly released videos of MI6 agents.  There was a lot of powerful material that was sort of dropped or never given that final UMPH that, by comparison, Batman Dark Knight Rises took to an 11.  And again, despite the fancy plotting, it all came down to a murder/suicide attempt...  Granted, the Cyanide bit was pretty frightening.

I found Adele's song pretty average too.  I don't get why all the reviewers are raving for it, it IS good... but short of "amazing" despite having all the ingredients for it.

Really sad Felix wasn't in this one too. :(

Checked this one out on Turkeyday and I generally agree with Dice except that I appreciated that they kept the overall plot within the scope they did. Because, let's be honest here, the average Bond plot tends to get way too goofy (just look at almost any given Moore/Brosman era film) and this definitely felt more centered on a more sudo-espionage level of conflict (much like an early Connery era film).

I will say, the final siege at Skyfall was fantastic... poor Aston Martin.  But I also liked Kingcade.  I was sort of confused by Bond's pretty emotional reaction to the Psychiatrists mention of "Skyfall" when he was later pretty nonchalant about it, even saying he "hates [that] place".  Anyways, I think the important thing I took from that whole thing was how much I want a secret passageway.

(what the fuck happened, Chrono Cross!?)

Obligatory 'steal' skill + Twin Einlanzers and Mastermune, that's what.

God I felt good when I got to that point.  I thought it even more amazing that you get Glen (and his Twin Einlanzers) by basically picking to be a jerk to Kid every time.... GOOD, goddamn she was ugly.

I felt more safer with Marco than Aht.  Neither were damage sponges, but I can't stand characters who can barely take 2 hits.

Same here.  I like the traps but I'll take a more extended/tedious battle over having to constantly worry about her health level.

You can't move most bosses anyways.  I do have this weird thing about certain parts of games that I *MUST* use someone I usually don't to succeed.  For the super secret Radiant Historia boss, I used Aht and Eruca (when they NEVER enter my party other than mandatory parts).  For the final level in Chocobo Racing, I could only win with the Fat Chocobo (same with Bowser in MK64, he was my boy).  To beat secret boss Nebilim in Tales of the Abyss, I need Anise (anus) in my party.  For Kirby games, I will suffer on a boss until I use the Tornado ability (that might be a "game breaker" though...).

I've been eying these; I also think spending $300 on Beats is retarded (especially when Dre is probably walking away with mad royalties for each pair).

I'm getting sick of the apple ear buds, they hurt after a while.

I just got these; they're amazing.  The bass and treble boost is quite a treat too.  <3

I felt more safer with Marco than Aht.  Neither were damage sponges, but I can't stand characters who can barely take 2 hits.  Oddly enough, my end party was Raynie, Marco, and Stocke.  But I thought the game did a good hob of making everyone "useful" in some way.  I love when developers can pull that off (what the fuck happened, Chrono Cross!?)

Yeah it seems that way. They just need to fix a few things before I sign a lease. Should be moving soon!

It's going to be me sleeping on a futon mattress on the floor with a TV in front of it for a while!
Yodes, are you staying in Chicago? Why do you have to move? Perhaps I missed something earlier.

Each country kind of has its own national dish in the UK. My favourite is Wales, who's national dish is grilled cheese. Classy.
Apparently, you haven't had great experience with grilled cheese. The right kind of bread, paired with a mix of truly great cheeses, can make for heaven on a plate. Get a nice, creamy bowl of Tomato Basil soup to go with it, and you have the perfect meal. Yum.

Moving back to Chicago. The last 6 months I've been living back with the parents. It's been awful. Moved back after me and -1 broke up

But, def Congrats on the new place and the new +1! :)
Both a lovely combo together...hwink wink.

Work, paper, life contemplation.
My old summer fling came into the store today.  Fuck me, he was still good to look at, but still talks in mind-boggling riddles and may be an alcoholic later in life.

I've just discovered the Rescue the Princess blog and it seems to be a lot of fun.  I think I'll be sinking several days into catching up on the backlog on this site.

I love this bloggy thing. <3

Sharing one of my favorites, good for quick chuckles when class is boring me to tears. 27b/6.  Lots of writing, but read the fatter column in the middle; this man is a satirical genius.

to me love stories in rpg's often feel forced or akward(sp?). and no i never beat the last boss in 9 because my ps2 laser died but to me daggar/zidane and steiner/beatrix fall into that category. also steiner/beatrix was more about them both defrosting.

Not really... Stein and Beatrix happened purely *by accident*.  They didn't like each other; it was when they thought that the other had feelings for them was when something actually happened (something that's actually....kinda realistic!).

Zidane and Dagger was cute.  Dagger felt nothing at first, possibly because Zidane made it too easy.  He was clearly torn when he thought he wouldn't see her again.  If anything, she was more the "defroster".

Certainly all sorts of love in the game: Eiko had that childhood crush with Zidane that can never happen, and Freya had that "forever and loyal" type.

The Radiant Historia playthrough goes smoothly now.  I do find the combat system a bit tedious in certain battles, but I suppose that applies to most turn-based RPGs.

I find turn based *extermely* tedious; I respect Radiant and stuff like the Persona series that try to add a spin to it.

I beat Prof Layton and the Miracle Mask.  *VERY* clean ending, everything wrapped up without a single problem and all too perfectly; the story wasn't very crafty this time around, but I liked their little "preview" about what the next game will be about.  This game reminds me a bit of Kingdom Hearts too; story-wise, you're in it for the "grand finale" that tells the most story with the smallest amount of beating-round-the-bush.  Essentially, everything leads to that moment since the revelations during the mid-game segments add up to nothing grand.
I knew Randall was alive after like the first or second time you meet him... His "death scene" was really tragic, certainly brought back the emotional punch that The Unwound Future did.  Randall falls to his supposed death, Layton figures out the final door and see mountains of treasure but feels nothing since he just lost his friend for it... No riches in the world can bring back a lost friend. ;__; .
I liked the bits with the ancient civilizations though, loved the top-down perspective "puzzle dungeon" and the puzzles in general were grand.  Some of the repeats were tedious though, and I don't really like the puzzles that rely on a drawn picture (some being nothing short of ambiguous with what's being depicted).

^ Yeah, I loved how Braid made obsession extremely ironic.  The "final battle" played in reverse gave me the chills.

Tales of the Abyss has cloning blues as a theme.

And like I said before, VLR made me sad when I realized I wouldn't find so crafty and creepy a story for a while (probably not until ZE3 is out).

Hell, even Steiner and Beatrix.

FFIX was all about sweet, sappy love stories.

I thought the Stein/Bea thing was perfect.  A small bonus because Beatrix had an amazing theme song.

IIRC the new black ones do not.

Goose, is everyone unfriendly over there?

If Harry Potter is any indication of the English-speaking North, then it seems that way.  I think all of 5 people in that cast of 200 were nice.  Everyone else was varying degrees of jerky.  Star would be one of the good guys.

Yodes, you get a 'partment?
