Question-related bump!

So, I'm about 9-10 hours in, but really not enjoying it. I don't like the characters, the story seems pretty average so far and I hate how often the game throws foreign terms at you and then doesn't explain what they are. Does it improve a lot? 'Cause I'm approaching the point of selling it off.

The techno-babble persists. But the story does get better.  It starts as a pretty slow political thanger (have you gotten passed Akzeriuth?) but gets pretty deep later on.  For a story-focused RPG, I thought Tales out-did themselves here.  Particularly with the role Ion plays in it.

Teddy is the only one who should be allowed to dance like that.
You no like trashcan Yosuke dance?

Chie had the stupidest dance.
Kanji the worst animated.

I think I would have liked the dance more if it was better animated as a whole... but it's pretty bare bones, and the character dancing to much like sticks without really good fluid dancing moves.

Russia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WKNRGc71hjc

Yeah, Russia is a fucking weird one. 6 old Russian ladies singing badly and dancing while baking bread. ITS MAGICAL.

That was amazing.
It's even better when they show that one judge who's probably waiting to shoot himself when this is over.

I saw quite a few similar faces in the audience. No one quiet knows how to take it :P

Those are some trendyass old ladies!!  haha -- ohh Russia.  Never cease to do the most bizarre.

I'll watch some of the entries.  Particularly Romania to put out the next big thing we'll hear in clubs.

I wanna play Infamous (or as I like to say, "In-fa-moose") because its pretty damn cheap these days.  I think next price drop I'll just go for both.

Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana -- is it just me or are women's portraits drawn better than the men's?  Great game nonetheless.

Thinking of what to play as a handheld next... the Zelda Oracle series is looking miiiighty appealing.

If this comes out before Versus 13, I will be pissed.

If this comes out before Versus 13, I wouldn't be surprised.

The whole Ivalice world is awesome.  Yeah... I kinda hope it's true too.  I'm real curious to say the least.
6862  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: May 25, 2012, 02:01:09 PM
But again, I would have rather an original plot for all that.  I think it would have allowed way more flexibility.

Anyone else alarmed by Hope's city in the sky??  Seems to only bring the series back and hidden away on a "moon" object.  That, and doesn't seem to be any water source on it.

I dunno, Yodes.  What will I do without my Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan figurine?
6864  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: disappointed of new generation rpgs..... on: May 25, 2012, 01:38:13 PM
I always found Sailor Moon's plot hilarious for that as well.  Sailor Moon is a "princess OF the Moon"... that shit is just a big, boring rock in the sky that happens to look pretty from here at night. x)

I think FFV gets too little love.  I thought it did battles better than 1-4, and maybe even 6.

I thought FF4 DS was a good touch, the Augment thing was a great addition, but only to go a step back with After Years.  Definitely in trying to cram in more plot than was necessary (though Golbez looked absolutely balls-deep-awesome).
6865  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: May 25, 2012, 01:29:42 PM
The story is bat shit stupid.  I mean, how that got approved is laughable.

Not sure I agree, at all. By in larger, I really liked the plot; very Doctor Who. The only thing I found bat-shit stupid was the villain's final motives. That really brought the game down for me, but aside from that, I didn't think anything else about the plot was bad at all.

The plot had potential, but the writing was so ludicrous it hampered both for me.

The fact everything was Scoody-Doo'd really sucked.  Hmmm, what's causing the problem?  A PARADOX.  But where's ____?  A PARADOX lost it!!  This enemy is tough!!!  He's a PARADOX.  There's a space-time distortion with a puzzle inside!! PARADOX made it!!!
I don't think there was really any instance they used a "paradox" into what it actually is, just as a "nasty element" that had to be fought or found.

It felt way too contrived too:
"Hope, why are you in the future!?"
...Why, he invented a device of course!

And again, the fact it is so far off from the original concept of FF13 makes it all the more visible they're trying to depart from their original vision of it, or the no longer have faith in it.  Lightning went from a government rebel saving her sister, to a goddess knight and protector of time... literally, OVERNIGHT.
What a crap-sack work too.  Part 1 -- WORLD IS IN DANGER.  Part 2 -- three years later; WORLD IS IN DANGER AGAIN.  I'd rather a game series move on...  I think FF13-2 could have been way better in the story department if it wasn't so attached to its original material.

Sold ALL the SNES/NES shit I could find, I think my brother has the rest for some reason.  Anyways, the half of the trove I did find sold for $600! :D
A lot of this could have probably gone for a LOT more online... but it didn't feel worth the effort of shipping, setting up an eBay/Amazon account, and they're good about "cleaning games" up, resurfacing and all -- which, used, and some missing manuals, would just destroy whatever value its worth (and again, not worth the effort of buying instructions books seperately).

All the goods.  Gold cartridge Adventure of Link, Dick Tracy the Game, Roger Rabbit the Game, TMNT the Game (the last three being seriously fucking HARD), Yo Noid (few Canadians know who the fuck he is), Mario 2, Ice Hockey (where you pick slim, medium, or fat players and a Zamboni goes by during intermission), Secret of Mana (clerk actually gave me cash for it because he wanted it), Golden Suns (where with any luck will go on the 3DS network...if not, whatever).  ALL.  Might go raid my brothers house eventually too.

Mind as well get rid of it -- we're not the sentimental types.

Also, while looking for gaming horde, I found these.

I also found my X-men Storm action figure.  She's missing her right leg from the knee down.  Which I still loved playing with because she kicked ass without it!

Also took a picture before I left for the game store -- a really beautiful sunset.  Reflected HELLA nice off of my Jeep.

Trying to apply for jobs overseas. Can't because I don't have the documents I need yet. It is frustrating being hamstrung. Korea is being a bag of leper dicks.

One co-worker killed two weeks ago while on his motorocycle, another attempted suicide this week.

Good times at work.

Buddy... do you want, like, a hug or something?? =/
Hope shit gets better.

Summer's here: I was awoken by the beautiful sound of a weedwhacker outside my window.

Better buy some flip flops.

Sandles and the like are the best shoes ever.  I love just slipping shoes on.  Got me some of those flat sort of Chinese/Ballet (no laces, just flats) shoes... shitt akes two second to slip on... I'm in love.

It's already too hot. I want a few weeks of the 70s man

I'm generally the same.  I hate, hate heat.  Up in Canada, country wide, it's not hot...always humid. x(

I jazz up my hair, curl it, straighten it... whatever the fuck.  Then I go outside.... ten minutes later... boing!  Hair loses whatever I styled it to.  It looks like I just blow dried it again.

I think the Bloom-effect with Wii works because it helps compensate otherwise poor graphics.

I thought Mario Galaxy did it really well.  Nor particularly bloom, but the white glow things left. x)

Adding:  Star Ocean 3 & 4 are great games! :D
(not really including story, but everything else... even unoriginal Sakuraba music).
6870  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: May 24, 2012, 11:43:31 PM
Monster raising had a lot more depth than I would have ever thought it would have.  I wish there was a bonus dungeon and bonus bosses (coliseum is a cheap way to do that... actually, rather expensive).  But the challenge for the game was pretty good as well (I had more of a dick time fighting the Behemoth monster-boss in Acedemia 700 than the final boss...).

The story is bat shit stupid.  I mean, how that got approved is laughable.
Something really hurts too, when they completely changed concepts between the first and second title, feels like them somewhat regretting their original "ideas".
