Meh.  I have faith in J.J., but I can see why Spielberg jumped on this... thus far it looks like a modern-day E.T.  I'll need reviews, I like sci-fi just fine, but not this particular genre of it.

-  As usual for many artbooks, the scenery concept art outdoes anything you see in game - I apply this to even current-gen games... goddamit designers, listen to your artists!!!

Easier said than done, when an artist is drawing he isn't limited by memory or polygon count. The initial concept art is always scaled back untill it fits the budget that is alocated to each character/object/environment. And when you're using a piece of hardware as limited as the DS it becomes a painful process.

And yeah, the girl on the cover is totally naked.

Haha I know it's easier said then done.  But hot damn.
I know it'd be the biggest pain in the ass to make so many individual houses and design so many object to differentiate parts of town.  But it'd still be an incredibly noble uptaking.

I'll scan some shots later - even the (now) infamous cover so you can judge

Maybe it is supposed to be reminiscent of ballet.
Then wouldn't he be in tights too?
She looks barefoot... maybe I'm just a perv...

Up close, it's like super spandex.  Shoe-things are lined out in it.
Also, Raynie and Marco are the same age, despite height difference.  There is reason to believe he has animal ears too.

I think I'm near the end of Red Dead. doing all the ranching shit.

I'd drop that ungrateful wife for Bonnie in a heartbeat

I beat Radiant Historia...

I have shipped myself, please expect and sign for my package in 2-4 weeks time.

I got the Artbook (or "Official World Guidance" in Engrish)

- Pretty stuff!  The artist stick to a tablet and photoshop - barely a thing here was done with a pencil
- Amongst a ton of drawings, there's a long written section (which is sadly pretty useless to me besides...like... a few words... ah well)
-  As usual for many artbooks, the scenery concept art outdoes anything you see in game - I apply this to even current-gen games... goddamit designers, listen to your artists!!! (Alistel's city view is stunning, you get a way better impression of the "Mechanical City" bit; the Granorg one is on the OST packed with the game though).
- Stocke's artwork was relatively unchanged.  There's one hideous shot of him in some orange get up.  A lot of his designs made him with the anime trope where his bangs cover the eyes completely.
- Very little extra designs for Raynie... maybe the artist had a good idea of her from the start.  However, there is an alt. colour of her in red (Marco has one like this too... good they changed it)
- Wow, tons of designs for Marco.  A lot of them he was still in his "short, fat suit".  Seems it took a while before they settled on those biiig chipmunk eyes of his though.  One shows them being like dots, a few show him with glasses, and a few show him with more mischievous "fox"-like eyes.  One of my favorites covers his face entirely with the helmet (looking much like other Alistel soldiers).  His helmet went through several changes.  There's also one "normal" design, without the baggy clothes and button eyes and all that
- Interesting designs Eruca.  For a while it seemed she was a "dark skinned" princess.  The design was roughly the same.  One design COUNTERS her current one; black hair and black princess attire!  There's a lot of "princess-like" images in the back of the concept art.  Seems that no matter what, princess was integral to the story (I'm curious how they wanted to use it)
- Rosch was largely unchanged.
- Aht had a lot of pretty concept work, ones that don't run along the furry-pant and childlike one we see.  But the sort of "gypsie" concept stuck strong nevertheless.
- Gafka was largely unchanged.
- Interesting designs with Heiss.  Numerous that keep him bald and evil looking, but there is one that makes him look kinda handsome (glasses and wavy hair)
- Viola looked much more manlier in an earlier design and had a stupid looking scimtar sword before it
- Garland looks awesome is always
- A design for a deer-like centaur.  Only one and it looks weird.  Cross anime with a deer and....
- Interesting... I don't know if any other versions of the box art showed this, but Sonja was originally on it - and seeing as how everyone ON the cover was a playable character... hmm, makes you wonder.
- Never noticed this before, but Teo has suns on his shirt, and Lippiti has the 6 pointed star

If anyone wants specific scans, I don't mind.  I might scan the Alistel one for being awesome and making the city look less of a sewer.
7493  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Movie Trends that NEED to Stop on: March 28, 2011, 01:38:31 AM
The whole "Cartoons are just for kids" ideology.

And speaking of cartoons, enough with the 3D animation. 2D animation generally looks better in my opinion. And since everyone thinks that cartoons are just for kids, cartoons have gone 3D because of how simple minded children generally are.

It depends, I love a great looking 3D film, I mean, look at Pixar.  But I do think I know what meann.  There's more freedom wwith animation in general.  The Illusionist could attest to this - a greed for sure in a few shining gems

Back off. Get your own sandwich.

That ad was infectious.  I have since made it a part of my catch-phrases though; I make a damn good sandwich!!

You always seem to pop in at the weirdest times for J games that I don't think you even play...
7497  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden Topic on: March 27, 2011, 03:21:16 PM
Is the Suikoden III manga any good?  I'm thinking of buying the first volume to see if I could get into it.

There's no grinding in it... hur hur...
It was okay.  You kinda lose that "interaction" bit that made it so fun to stage plays and all that.  Covering 108+ character isn't easy (especially when it comes to that "emotional" factor, it just get's rushed when you're on a page limit to keep things moving), and definitely something that can't be covered in 13[?] books.  But, it does the job otherwise.

7499  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Female gamers, is this industry treating you as well as you deserve? on: March 27, 2011, 11:54:18 AM
Yeah, I kinda laugh because it is Duke Nukem; otherwise it does depend on the context.  I'm sad about the lack of female leads in big titles.... this also excludes all attempts at female-oriented gaming that stars Hannah Montana or some living Disney woman.

What I hate more is the over-sexualization of female subjects.  A bit of sex-appeal I get, but too many titles make it an explicit point.  I'm not going to go burn my bra in from of these game companies, of course, but I do a lot of eye-rolling nowadays...

Sometimes I take showers in the dark

I do that if it's early in the morning and I'm too groggy to put up with light. x3
It'sa nice.

Anyways: I have use video games to "escape".  Surprisingly helpful if you can muster up the "effort" to play after a bad enough breakup.  Sad, but true kind of thing.

One of my favorite "shame" meals is when I'm home alone.  I make rice (my style) with tortilla bread.  CARBS!! :D

I did cheat on someone.  Once.  It was at the end of the actual relationship happening (like the next day; real BF did the deed, guy I cheated with told me), so I didn't feel too guilty about it.  I don't know how the moral barometer measures this anyways, though.

My mum, sweetest woman on earth, also probably one of the most silliest and suffer chronic "Imaprincess-titis".  Lord forbid, but if I had to big a parent to move in with in the event of a divorce, it'd be my more strict, but way more level headed pop.  I could go on about stupid she can be, it's extremely upsetting.  I know about the whole "we turn out like our parents thing", but I'd rather emulate my dad.

I act tougher with my girlfriends, I act sweeter with my guy friends.  I don't know why....  Either way, I'm a bit of a tomboy to both parties nonetheless.

I prefer a nice night in to an big night out.  Ideally?  A few beers at my place or someone else's doing whatever chat or playing/watching whatever there.  I try to fix this though, ensure I'm not a complete shut-in.
