I'm most fond of the tail falling down at the end of the Raptor vid. It's the ultimate defeat.

I agree - deflated tail translates to an almost deflated spirit....

7667  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Western RPGs versus JRPGs on: February 15, 2011, 09:48:44 PM
Oh lord, this thread is going to be interesting. As for myself, I like both almost equally. They both have their strengths, but they also have glaring weaknesses as well.

The only weakness of WRPGs are it's artstyle and that's pretty much it.

I think that's subjective, given the rather lame current-gen graphics we've been given.  The detail in WRPGs seems to be outshining J ones lately.  And not all people really enjoy playing characters that go all like: ^_^d "yatta".

But funny enough, I stick with JRPGs for being usually more interesting (usually at the cost of realism).  Too many WRPGs I've played are too point-and-click or simple hack and slash.  I also find they lack a certain charm when most WRPGs take place in either earthen-medieval, the faaar future, or modern day Brooklyn.

It's a tough argument though, JRPGs have been less than stellar lately.

...funny how there is usually no compromise between the J-creativity and the W-realism though.  Both are gung-ho in their respective ways it seems (please prove me wrong).

My day is made with McDonalds Sundaes.... maybe not the best, but cheap and a quick fix for that awesome hot sauce meets cold cream. Mmmm

I'm about to make a peach and apricot cheesecake with a peanut butter and biscuit base. My gran and a couple of her friends are coming to tea tommorow, so I gotta impress or gran will be ill spoken of on Bingo night.

I made mac and cheese.... =(
Mmm, powder cheese.

Are all FF title characters getting a second partner for each installment or only a few??  We don't have a new FF6, 8, 9, etc. character.

Half price chocolate tomorrow. Now we're talking.

I do the same. At least with calendars.  Like a few weeks after New Years, they're half price off, and all you lose is a month.

Beat SO The Last Hope Int'l in around 45 hours. Sure, the cutscenes were a bit too long (especially towards the end), the voice acting uneven (some VAs were really good, though, for instance Commander Kenny's) and Edge way too emo, but I had tons of fun. I think as far as real time battle systems go SO is second to none. The dungeons were pretty cool too (for the most part) and the item creation system fun and much more accessible than in S03, although admittedly some of the ingredients seemed hard to find. It didn't really matter anyway, since on the Galaxy difficulty setting I had no problems beating the game with the gear I bought in stores or found in the dungeons; I imagine item creation becomes much more important on higher difficulty levels and/or in post-game dungeons.

Now playing Wild Arms 3 and Ghost Trick, and enjoying both so far.

OMG SUPERSONIC (gimme gin and tonic), I love you - playing all games I love, I want to be your friend and platonically rape you a bit, probably dry-hump.

I haven't played a thing lately - I'm trying to get into Baten Kaitos again but school drags me from it.... fucken horrible voice acting and the SFX are an earsore.... but I love everything....everything else... =)

Trying to fit SO2 in.... I'm at the boring Front Lines place or whatever.... to much shitty pointless dialogue and I just want Claude to flash some brain to shut Rena up (because that would work????  ??)
7674  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs with puzzles or subgames on: February 14, 2011, 10:18:50 PM
I agree with the FFX minigames of hell....

By the end I was reasoning with which characters I used the most, and which were worth the effort to get the best weapons since it involved some tedious task.  The choco minigame sucked by the end, dodgining lightning was seriously retarded....
7675  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs with puzzles or subgames on: February 14, 2011, 08:19:37 PM
Tales, particularly Abyss and maybe Vesperia.
Legendia is mostly just mazes instead of puzzles, although it had optional puzzles (not side quests) occasionally.

I think earlier Tales apply better, like Mesh is on with - pretty much Symphonia and earlier applies.  Vesperia was relatively linear...

I think manga's go relatively like this... i dunno anymore...

I don't know... not everyday you see a hawk swoop down and off with a cat.  We got raccoons here, the messy bastards.  Hawks are slightly more majestic at least.  I do feel for the cat though....
7678  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly on: February 14, 2011, 04:58:11 PM
The ugly:  It's too muddy to see, but I'm pretty sure a hawk killed my neighbor's cat.  I'm really hoping it wasn't my neighbors cat because he was a pretty cool cat.  Might have been a stray.

I mean no offense, so I do hope it is a stray - but that would have been amazing to see....

That does sound like a lot of fun. It also sounds like torture to do with a movie so long @_@.

I watched Millenium Actress and it was freaking amazing. The only movie I haven't seen of Kon's now is Perfect Blue, but that will be coming soon. The man sure was a genius.

I looooved Milennium Actress - makes me reallly sad Kon is gone (rhyme unintentional).  MA's bitter sweet ending was nothing short of admirable and great, I like how far the heroine went for the one fella, a case of true love at first sight.  Magnetic Rose (a la 'Memories') was the first thing of his I saw, I think my jaw was hanging from my mouth by the end - but he's always had that effect with me.

Is that a fucking Mac/

I'm going to say yes proudly.  For my work - it's perfect.  For eroge games, Thoren, I'd use a Windows PC....
Though they are overpriced - my PC is a slow shitbox right now because of the little viruses crawling on it.
