There are six total.

I would have guessed nine...

I feel so unoriginal.  I wonder how many world-wide have said the same....

I figured some people would be interested, particularly in Saiyuki.

Haha I didn't mean to poo-poo your post.
The titles aren't bad.  Saiyuki I could never finish.
Harvest Moon I oddly liked, kept me company for a bit (but took too much time)

It sounds like you took the limiter off of Indalecio(SO2 Boss?) because he really isn't that hard.  If you really are that underleveled and you're at the final boss, it may be worth checking out the Cave of Trials.  It's an interesting challenge and will level you up REAL fast.

Limiter ON Indalecio was pretty tough my first time playing the game way back when, I couldn't beat him anyways.  His spells ruined me until I discovered Item Creation...

played demo of Katawa Shoujo after reading this thread.

*hated* it.

That is WAY too much text for one chapter, seven days of gaming. They gotta prune that script BIG time.

Erm... I'm going to try and be diplomatic here, but you're saying a visual novel has too much text?

Yes. Yes I am. Why are you surprised?

You should have enough text to tell the story, give sufficient background information, and maybe a little bit of decoration to help set the mood (not much is needed on this last part, though, since you have images to aid you in a *visual* novel).

The amount of text here is wildly excessive. The dialogue is slow. The characters take forever to say, essentially, nothing.

I've played enough visual novels to know what makes for a good or bad script. Katawa Shoujo ch. 1 in its current state is a trainwreck of too much text. I suspect it's an issue of "too many cooks spoiling the broth."

I remember feeling the same about Ar Tonelico titles.  Especially the "dive" sequenes which end up having little consequence to story other than "female mind problems".

I discovered yesterday while watching TV that there one's overly used trope that has ALWAYS been there and is in every show / book /manga / anime featuring love.
The love triangle.
In every story where a character is trying to get a girl/guy, there WILL be a rival in love.
Is this really needed for a story?

I'd argue that as a good story "pinch" to throw in.  What else adds to the love drama plots as well as a rivalry?

Xenogears is the kind of story that makes you "feel" intelligent for playing it, at least for a few days, until you realized later that it's all a bunch of randomly cobbled together ideas from much more intelligent people, who are probably rolling in their graves for having their material used so haphazardly.

Before you play Xenogears, ask yourself one very important question: "Do I enjoy Eva?"

So, Xenogears is exactly like Evangelion? Pretentious and pointless?

I liked Eva.  Sure it was probably the most saturated sci-fi story you can find - but I thought the "mech" part was more thought out than all of the Gundam series' and at least come with an interesting/bizarre back story.  I love the time-limit thing too....ooooh the drama!

And SaGa and Breath of Fire's.

Yeah Legend of Many does look really slow and boring from what I've seen of it. I'll still probably get it and hopefully enjoy it, but I dunno if I'd make it to the end. Threads of Fate Looks great, though! Very action-packed and starts off quick, which I like. I hear some pretty mixed stuff about Xenogears. Anybody here have any opinions on it?

I keep hearing "epic-epic-epic", but I got tired of it when I got stuck in some stupid fucken cave.  I saw the first "deep part" with the human skeletons, but it never really took.  I might try again; I'm a bit older, bit wiser, maybe I'll see it differently.

Thinking about it... aside the magic system, was LoM and SoM all that differnt?  I thought it a pretty interesting step.  I think PotRoast said it best - there's issues, but you stop noticing when you get into the funk of the game.

I saw The Other Guys with Farrel and Wahlberg.

Goddamn, I thought this movie was kinda gonna suck, but I found something to laugh at almost every minute of it haha - I loved it!
The pimp thing, the hot wife, and a few other moments were classic.  Nice to see Mike Keaton too and the bizarre Derek Jeeter cameo at the end.

He also wrote "Remains of the Day", you may have seen that film too.

I really liked "Never Let Me Go" so I'm hesitant about watching the movie. Will probably see it anyway.

I want to see Remains of the Day - can't go wrong with the film talents in it.

And going from book-to-movie is usually a self-fulfilling prophecy, especially if you're hesitant about seeing it.
7678  Media / The Soundroom / Re: Any really good recent RPG soundtracks worth picking up? on: January 02, 2011, 03:04:09 AM
Got to listen to Radiant Historia today.  Wowie-zowie!  It is excellent!  It sounds like Yoko...which can be good, it can be bad - but on he bright side it is the best of her "style" worked in here.  I just wonder what she'll do for the mature looking FFVersus, her "fairy tale" style is perfect. (haha I made a typo on "fairy" and put "farty tale"...yeah).

Speaking of female composers... I miss the Wild Arms composer, Naruke, with all my heart....

Yeah, Radiant Historia is surprisingly awesome. I would recommend you check out her music for "Last Ranker" too. That one really blew me away. I have high hopes for Vs XIII's soundtrack (the game itself, well ... we'll see)

I enjoyed more the music from Last Ranker than Radiant Historia personally, but no one can deny that both albums are pretty impressive. I still wonder how she is able to make so much music though.

Also, someone has heard The 3rd Birthday soundtrack already? There's some fine tracks by Shimomura in that album too, but the one that did the best tracks (in my opinion) was Mitsuto Suzuki.

I felt that way when it came to "fan-favorite" Uematsu.  I thought he was the weakest link on the FFX album.

Thanks so much for the interview, Ramza!

I just watched "Never Let Me Go".  And I'm throwing it up with the year's better titles.  It is a different take on the "love story", and it's extremely haunting in it's dealing with fate and death.  Basically it's a story about clones raised as destined, but living, organ donors (after 3-4 donations, you are "completed"; aka clone dies), but takes on the ethics and emotions of the clones themselves.  It's not a happy ending - but a curious story.  BRR..
I'm sad it was an overlooked title.  But Carey Mulligan is proving herself to be an incredibly capable actress, and I look forward to whatever she takes on next.

Been meaning to see this ever since I heard interview on NPR. Apparently it's based on a book by a Japanese author...?

Ishiguro.  He's done a ton of work in English/England despite his native Japanese heritage.
This is the first of his I've seen, and a film adaption... but since everyone says "the book is better" I guess there's nowhere to go but up - and I liked the film haha
