There was also a band playing that 'sucked ass'

I loled

Played dejap's SD3, which was a slightly more faithful translation if I remember correctly. They took TONS of liberties with tales of phantasia though.

Which isn't too bad a thing.  Early SNES games were extrmeley bland, dialogue wise, ToP being no less of an offender (the official Tales Forum usually slanders Cless and Mint for being about as interesting as a cardboard cutout).  If anything, I found DeJap gave an old title the most contemporary translation, and made it something worth remembering.

I guess that means we should be getting it?
Guess again: http://beefjack.com/news/atlus-no-plans-for-catherine-in-north-america/

Atlus USA has spoken. I think I'm going to import this game and hope for a fan translation.

Can't say I'm too upset.  The puzzle-focus doesn't really do much for me.  It does when it's on the DS or something, but a $60-HD title, that's as difficult as they say it is, makes me just wanna pull up the "let's play" on YouTube.

Did DeJap ever finish the translation? I remember downloading an incomplete version that bugged out so I really didn't get the far in (maybe 45 minutes). It's one of the few games I'd still be willing to emulate if I found a good translation.

They finished long ago......maybe a decade now?

I recall some controversy over the patch though. Apparently, the translation is rather loose in terms of faithfulness (bear in mind that this was the Working Designs norm too, so the direction wasn't entirely shocking), and the writers took it upon themselves make the script cruder than it's supposed to be.

I didn't complain about learning that one of the characters fucks like a tiger.

I think 6 years is way too long for development.

I'm sure the game's graphics will make me game-gasm, but I gotta agree.

Ugh. Tried to find it in Toronto today. No luck.

I wish I could have been there failing.

My local mom and pop store likes to release before most stores - might check them out.

Make your own list then, Missus Creative list maker.

Heeey, I answered at least. =(
I tried to make a category, but couldn't think of a good enough one; favorite sex positions didn't seem appropriate.

Top 5 Music Genres!
Top 5 Movie Genres!
Sunrise or Sunset?
Favorite Season (and least)?
Favorite Finger?

top 5 favorite snacks (don't like salty snacks)
1. Chocolate (yeah, I know...)
2. Yogurt (love love)
3. Cereal (I have early supper's too often, this is a bit more substantial if I'm still staying up a while)
4. Pocky or any of those hand-held things: Gushers, Fruit Roll-Ups, etc. (not my favorite-favorite, but probably the most ideal given their light size and convenience)
5. Frozen fruit snacks

top 5 favorite smells (no order)
1. MY KITCHEN.
2. coffee brewing
3. My bedroom
4. Um, gas pump, I guess.  Certaintly a highlight to a boring task.
5. Bakeries
6. Bookstores

top 5 favorite things to cook
1. Pasta
2. Desserts
3. Red meats
4. Soups (throw stuff in a pot, excellent flavour usually results, can't go wrong!)
5. Breakfast foods

top 5 hobbies
1. gaming
2. drawing
3. other "media" (movies, comics, books, etc.)
4. exercise (goddamn Canada, I want more sun!!); biking is a shitty exercise, but I love how I feel when I'm doing it
5. being ridiculously good-looking

Why do 3 of these deal with food?

Hi all,
I have a DS lite and I while I love it I find the screens too small for reading text for long periods of time. What are all your thoughts? Is it worth it to upgrade to a DSi XL? I would hate to lose the GBA compatibility thought. Thoughts?

I personally find the DSi XL a waste of money.  Especially with better game consoles, and especially with a 3DS on the way that's opening more gaming potential since the DS is (presumably) ending it's gaming life shortly.

I'm surprised it was missing Xenoblade and Last Story.
It seems like those games are universally talked about as being just one game.

Probably because of their status as "Wii RPGs" made by some sort of prolific company.

Wish Venus & Braves was up on there.

not sure where this fits in...

but it's funny. I hope you guys all have to buy a game called Tales of Town at some point :)

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/02/22/rumored-name-for-next-tales-game-is-pretty-dumb.aspx

Thus far, it's an SD browser game using previous characters - I wouldn't count that as a title as much as a little throwback to the fans.

Live-a-Live is probably the most unorthodox choice there.  For sorta good reason, it's dated now, but would have been pretty cool way back when (the sci-fi chapter freaked me out, actually; like an SNES version of the films 'Moon' and 'Alien').

Missing a few key titles though.

Tales of Eternia (PSP).

I over-leveled for the first Greater Craymel fight because that boss and the evil-forest dungeon after that boss suck major ass unless you do.
7753  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Youtube on: February 22, 2011, 05:30:50 PM

Digital or not, I'd do horribly sexy thing to Jayden and/or his real life counter part.... some with Madison, who is 30000x hotter IRL than the weird flat face she had in game..

Dunno if this was posted - but I like the IRL version of Mario/Remi Kart.  My favorite has to be how the asshole is trying to make cars spin out with banana peels (alas to no avail..)
7754  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: 2011 - The best year ever? on: February 22, 2011, 01:57:21 AM
That game was awful and I feel like I just lost both my testes announcing I played it =/

This is practically demanding an avatar quote.

I remember playing that on the SNES emulator (since it wasn't coming here unless hell froze and heaven burned) - the thing I liked about it was playing it at 2x speed - the boss theme sounded wicked then (double kick drum and everything).

It IS a very different game, being developed by Sega themselves. It was an enjoyable action RPG of the kind most common during the 8-bit and 16-bit generations, and the fact those aren't quite as common now means it may well be worth playing if you can land a copy conveniently enough. I wouldn't actively hunt it down though.

Myabe it's for the best I emulated it (and it wasn't translated).  Kinda the case with ASH on the DS.... brrrr, that left a weird taste in my mouth.

Actually, in my emulating escapade (again, titles that didn't have a chance getting here) - the amount of weird shitty and bizarre JRPGs released during the SNES were both cheap and uninspiring.  I can easily say we got the best of what was worth it (except Terranigma, to the US anyways).  J-only exceptions I'd say is Star Ocean 1 and Tales of Phantasia (and were nevertheless brought here by a remake...albeit shitty ones).

http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/love-quest/screenshots  I'll just leave that here.
7755  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: February 22, 2011, 01:02:57 AM
I also made it to the Demo boss in Tales of Vesperia. And now I need to grind for the first time since I started this game. ='(

This is sort of ....emotionally deflating (especially if you were looking for a difficult game), but compared to the rest of the game, I found him to be the hardest given the horrid EXP and equipment you can get by that point.
