7741  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on: November 26, 2011, 11:41:26 AM
So, thoughts?

I think I'm at the half way point.  So lessee...

- I love it the more I play.  Being honest, I wasn't too keen at first, and getting used to the controls was half of the battle.  But it's grown a helluva lot on me.
- Lanayru was the coolest place to visit.  And probably the most interesting land to visit in a long-ass time in the series.
- The bosses haven't been TOO challenging yet.  Probably the big fault of the Zelda series: if you know what to expect, it's easy (TP's final slew of bosses, the second time I fought them, I think I lost ....3 hearts...maybe).  The Scorpion was super duper easy.
- I still fuck up between holding the Item button down to bring it up and just hitting it once.  More option, hell, ANY options would have been nice.
- The Goron is adorable
- Groose is awesome
- Batreaux is funny
- Harp playing is kinda crappy (Fi pulls a weird face when she sings too: =O )
- Repairing your shield is a pain in the ass, I'm not keen on the whole shield thing.
- As cool as Fi is, she's just not nearly as awesome a companion compared to Midna... I think it's awesomel and weird that for the first time, Link's travelling buddy is the same size as him.
- I'm on the fence about the stamina gauge.  I don't know if I like it better than constantly hearing "YA" and "EEAAGH" because I rolled around everywhere.  But the normal walk-run can be a bit slow.
- The dungeons are probably the shortest the series has ever seen, but they're extremely well crafted.  Heck...The whole game is.  I'm really happy

^By the way, what did you choose to do with the letter?

I gave it to Karane so she and Pipit had "their ending".  When you do the toilet paper for the letter.... well, I saw a friend do that... it was weird. =/

You see a ghost hand consoling Cawlin...
Why are the peeps in toilets in Zelda so damned weird?!  Haha

Slightly less than I wanted because you guys drive a hard bargain!

We're broke on games.

7745  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ninokuni (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) going PS3 on: November 26, 2011, 02:16:54 AM

I find Ghibli overrated, and I have some faith in Level-5.... BUT, I do have faith in this to be a good game despite my shit talking.

I rarely hear that about Ghibli. RARELY. Ghibli movies are about the only Japanese anime I can stomach. Visuals and storylines unlike anything I've ever seen.

Depends.  I find Princess Mononoke are work of art.  I thought Ponyo sucked garbage other than when Ponyo was being cute.  I found Spirit Away bi-polar; some of it was absolutely fascinating, some of it was too dull for too long (everything before the spirit world, watching her train ride).  One thing I hate are the "director's trademarks" that have become all too bizarre... Ghibli seems to love "ooze" for some reason (Mononoke, Howl, and Spirited), there's usually some scene of character gorging on food that I watched for no apparent reason, and I got really annoyed seeing Yubaba [sp?] and the Old Sofie looking damn near like the same old lady.

I'm not a Miyazaki fan as much as I take each title for what it's worth on its own.

Myes, you can throw the tomatoes at me now. =/
7746  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: November 26, 2011, 02:10:06 AM
Can I ask why everyone seems to love Sazh? Granted I hardly played any of FF13, I do plan on finishing it, but to me (from the intro) he seemed like stereotype.

Are the rest of the characters that bad?

I don't love him, but I enjoyed his character during the middle portions of the game where he's worried about his son and reminisces over what he could have done differently to save him.  By the end he was demoted to comic relief.

Yeah, I think it's one of those, "it was the best among the worst".  Who else was going to be a character worth admiring?
7747  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: November 25, 2011, 04:46:28 PM
Well this thread turned more awful than usual.

I'd agree, but I'm kinda tired of the non-stop sex posting (to whatever extent).  Kay, I think you could be a way better addition to this forum if you back off on it a bit.  Jokes are one thing, but it manages to seep into every single post almost.

I admire you wanting to be yourself, but consider how well that attitude would even work in real life.  It's a tiring act sometimes.  Especially with what this forum caters to, I don't think we want to hear about your fantasies with submissive game characters. =/
7748  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: November 25, 2011, 02:28:51 AM
Don't worry, there are some of us who still think she's gross.  Anorexic girls with vapid faces and clueless personalities are very unattractive.  Serah may as well be Miss Teen South Carolina.

There's all this, and that side ponytail which will never not bother me.

I think it's the underlying muller that is usually curtained by side ponytail that won't not bother me.

It can easily be said that with Kay, talk of sex on this forum increases 1000%.  For better or worse?  Who knows.

So other than buying $5 in awesome games, Thanksgiving sucked. Went to a shitty restaurant and had shitty food that made me feel shitty with my grandma and parents. On the ride home I had to argue with them why we shouldn't spray bullets into the Occupy Wall Street people (they honestly believed that). Now I'm a filthy hippie apparently. Then we watched a movie called Brides Maids. It was the most awkward movie ever. I was the only person not laughing at everyone running around having sex with each other and pooping their pants. No sense of humor I guess.

As much as I kinda wanna spray them myself (at least with a high-power hose -- I don't think picket signs are the way to change the world) , your folks' generation (and mine) are not gonna change by this age, it's hopeless to argue haha

I loved Bridesmaids.  Watched it with my mum. :D

Sorry that all things considered you had a shitty night though.

Being ahead of the curve, just a normal turkey-less Thursday in Canada.  :D

Trails in the Sky re-established a hope for localizations, and a proper story CAN be found in modern JRPGs.

Radiant Historia made me realize stories in JRPG don't have to be made of cheese.

Assassin's Creed helped me blow of end-semester stress...by making mass-murder fun.

Any PC will run this game Dice. Literally.

Alright cobwebs, you're going down.  Gotta boot up the good ol' Windows.
7752  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: To the Moon [Now Available!] on: November 24, 2011, 11:12:25 AM
I really wanna play... I may have to wait till I get a new PC because mine's a piece o' crap.  D:
But hot damn to hear it so loved across the board is awesome!

I'm at that age where I hate playing a person in High School...

Say what you will about Harry Potter, but that series rekindled reading and made it a global craze.

While you could argue whether or not HP is actually good, the issue with Twilight is that the relationship it portrays is sort of fucked. HP doesn't have *THAT* issue.

I'd argue Harry Potter is a much more cohesive work, to say the least, in comparison to Twilight as well.
Harry Potter at least tries to tell one hell of a tale of relationships (past and present), histories, magical being and artifacts, and its all jumbled in teenage jinx's and adventure.

Twilight is simply illogical, and made up of magical problems, poorly re-imagined horror-types (vamps and wolfies), and ridiculously fictitious deus ex machinas to save the day.  Quite frankly, some of it is just embarrassing.

"JACOB IMPRINTED and fell in love with a BABY... STOP FIGHTING YO GUYS".

EDIT:  As much as I like the occasional read on CRACKED, their articles talk out of their asses sometimes.  And yeah, I don't think a minotaur rape scene was to be implied given the target audience.  Some authors are fucked up, but I'm giving Rowling the benefit of the doubt... if any... other than in CRACKED's head.

Lovin the Midna avy.  Might change mine to that after you haha

Fashion is pretty important to me.  Unfortunately, I hardly have the funds for the latest, which usually leads me to getting practical clothes that are good for any situation.  Maybe I'd even wear the butt-ugly femme-ponchos if I had the money to be adventurous enough.
