Eh, it's better than the wonky numbering of the Ogre Battle games. There's four of them, and only two of them are numbered, as VII and VI. Sting seems to be at least planning to fill the numbers out.

I'm looking forward to this too. It's Episode IX in the Department Heaven series, right? I was a little iffy for a while because I couldn't figure out Yggdra Union, but I played it again recently, and it just clicked. Eh, the stories are always really interesting in Sting games.

Yes, Wilhelm is basically looping reality back to the start. It's implied that he has done it many, many times before. He needed to wait for Shion because she was the only one who could summon the Gnosis and Abel's Ark, and he needed Abel's Ark in conjunction with Zarathustra for it to work. Oh, and Wilhem is implied to be the antichrist or something like that, as chaos is implied to be the one behind Jesus' miracles. Xenosaga is bizarre.

The gameplay is superficially similar to Final Fantasy XII, but it is far more fast-paced. I usually hate that kind of gameplay, but I really enjoy Xenoblade.

I found the True Runes thing really interesting too. In a lot of jRPGs, the gods are either evil or ineffectual or fake. In Suikoden, the True Runes just do their own thing and don't seem to even have a sense of morality.
And when a supernatural threat shows up, its usually linked to one of the Runes. Except for that tree thing in Suikoden 4.

The translation was really bland. It's kind of weird that El Shaddai was the first game that got a good translation. Muramasa was extremely barebones, Arc Rise Fantasia got the horrible voice acting (but the textual translation wasn't that bad), and El Shaddai is the one that could probably get away with a bad translation because it's so insane anyway.

Oh, it definitely doesn't have the slowdown. There are a couple bosses, like the centipede one, that would probably cause a PS2 to explode, but on the Wii, there's no slowdown whatsoever.
