The Wii translation was one of the most uneven bare-bones things I've ever seen. You get one word when the character has a monologue, none of the characters really have any personality, and the translators didn't even try figuring out a way to translate the dialects. The only game Ignition really gave a good translation to was El Shaddai and that was more because it didn't actually have all that much stuff to translate. I think they were mostly just lazy.

It's a first person dungeon crawler.

Yes. Nintendo doesn't have the best track record for budget re-releases, especially considering the Wii is dead in their eyes.

Throw the Granstream Saga in there because it was intended to be the spiritual successor to the series. Of spiritual successors.

But, yeah, the Quintet Quartet deserves so much more than it got. And Terranigma really needs a better translation. It just implodes at the end.

That would actually take them more work.

Eugh...Atomos in HD. That would be utterly horrifying.

Aren't those gaps there because the different parts of the lines are recorded separately?

It's a fullblown remake. They're doing it from the ground up.

I got into gaming with the GBA and the Gamecube, so I don't really have a nostalgia filter over those older games, so I won't hold it against you.

It'd be nice if it were similar to white knight chronicles, where you create a character for use online and in the main story, but he/she doesn't impact the story directly. Granted WKC isn't the best example of a stellar single player experience, but it gets my point across.

I'd be okay with that if your character doesn't stand around like a schlub the whole time with only two characters acknowledging your presence. I got the impression the avatar was just tagging along and wouldn't take a hint.

I picked up my copy, navigating my way around the "real men don't play cartoony games" guy who's been the bane of my existence for several months now, but I have to wait until the 2nd of February to play it because a friend of mine demanded that I wait till she visits to start it. I did install it and redeemed the code for the DLC familiar I got with the pre-order (Flutterby) and watched the opening video you get if you leave the title screen long enough. I think they dubbed the song. But from my brief impression, it is very pretty.

That's...extremely repetitive.

I think a good way to describe my response (I don't like the new one very much) is that it is a very good Ninja Theory game, but it's not a very good DMC game. You end up with this awkward position where coming up with a score is rather difficult.

Although, the one thing that I will say I think is just bad is the writing. Excessive swearing is not good dialogue. If you must use excessive swearing, balance it out with truly witty dialogue. If a character constantly swears and never proves that they can say anything interesting on their own merits, they are not well written. It is incredibly obvious that this is Ninja Theory's first game where they didn't bring in an outside writer to work on it. Heavenly Sword had Rhianna Pratchett and Enslaved had Alex Garland. This just has Tameem and, while his worldbuilding is interesting, his characters really aren't written well. The game also gives really mixed signals about who is supposed to be sympathetic and not in a good way, the pacing is extremely inconsistent and the only character I liked is one of the villains.

The combat is fine and the game looks okay, if aesthetically somewhat ugly, but it's just the writing that ruined it for me.

It's on the Virtual Console on the Wii.
