I think part of it might be that Vesperia did not use motion capture, so the character designs could be more stylized. Dawn of the New World was the first Tales game with motion capture and the characters jitter around like they've had too much coffee and while it isn't as bad, it's still present in Graces and Xillia. Weird proportions don't work too well with motion capture, as Eternal Sonata shows.

You know, what is wrong with Innocence R, as opposed to the original? The only reason I've really heard is the graphics.

I think in visual novels, it's basically just Clannad, and even the player character, Tomoya, has a distinct personality there. And there's only one possible kid.

Why do so many people assume it's spelled with an apostrophe anyway? It's not in any of the logos, and it's the name of an actual historical legend. The sunken city of Ys off the coast of France that sank because the princess forgot to lock the flood-gates before the tide came in.

And I think it's pronounced Ees, because that's the traditional pronunciation of the lost city.

If you have a VITA, Ark of Napishtim is out of your reach. It wasn't released digitally anywhere. Bear that in mind.

And it's kind of inevitable that some kind of remake of Kefin: The Lost City of Sand (the 5th game) will be made at some point, probably for the VITA if the pattern continues.

This is a typical Aniplex release, so bear in mind, it's not the North American release. I know that sounds really strange, but it's the import of the Japanese special edition for cheaper than it would be if you bought it from Japan. If it does well, Aniplex will probably get around to a less expensive release exclusive to North America. Maybe with a dub. Or maybe not. It's kind of hard to predict.

Huge fan of Dungeon Crawlers. The game looks great.

Wonder if the images are mirrored or if the artist is left handed. Two of the characters seem to be left handed as well as one of the monsters. The Dwarf may be as well. Not sure as it looks like a two handed weapon. Yay for the lefties!

Aww, just looked at the linked pictures and the first one seems to be right handed :(

They're not mirrored. You can see Arabic numerals and the occasional english word.

Wait, are you saying people think Dragon Quest VII's bad? It's hard, and the pacing is..weird to say the least, but I thought it had a pretty positive reaction.

Admittedly, the level curve is ridiculously steep at the start.

Yeah, you're right. The average JRPG series is more an anthology than anything.

Maybe they'll mean it will flow a bit better? Persona 3 had a rather awkward mesh of the social links and the main plot and while Persona 4 did it a bit better, it was still kind of weird.

Isn't the whole thing with the novel bullshit? I've never seen the novel translated and what it has been said of it is just sounds (to me) like a bunch of people overreacting because of some poor translation of a few pages.

Of course I could be wrong and the novel is as dumb as it has been mentioned. But still, I rather read the entire novel before freaking out.

The audio drama is sort of annoying to me since I don't particularly like the way Nojima writes his stories. It sucks that he's the script writer for XV... I'm crossing my fingers for him to do a good job since the idea behind the scenario in XV has potential in itself, but at this point I don't expect much of anything from him.

Most of the information is coming from the Japanese side of things. Like, book reviews and such.
72  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Surprise! Drakengard 3 (aka; how to damn "nier" lose your shit about old title) on: March 20, 2014, 08:43:11 PM
That article is really interesting. I thought it was kind of funny how his example of something to make people sad was so cliche, until he started adding details and I was like "Holy crap, that's a scene from Nier!"

And he thinks his games don't cause emotional reactions? Okay, Drakengard 1 maybe...the characters are so twisted and awful, and the gameplay is so incredibly clunky that it's really hard to get sucked in, but Nier had an amazing (and dark) story with many moments that impacted me. And the music really helped.

I just looked this up on Youtube, and I found this song:

It's gorgeous!

Sorry, wrong thread.

Ooh, you're going to have some trouble with that. The game is hard enough with level grinding.
