I'm not sure if I can trust Mesh's opinion on writing, ever.

I mean the guy writes anime fanfiction

I wrote a fanfiction about you Thoren. :)

The THINGS you do to Mesh. You are so naughty.

If this turns out to be a worthy game, however, no one will doubt Ninja Theory again.

Don't hold your breath.
2808  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: September 19, 2010, 07:49:47 PM
Okay, I finished Suikoden IV not five minutes ago - I want to talk about this while its fresh in my memory because I don't think I'll remember this experience next week.

I did originally rant on and on about this, but I deleted that because it was FAR too negative, and I didn't want to overstate how bad this game is.

The game isn't bad, it's just a disappointment. A big, big, big disappointment. It's story is weaker than even the very first Suikoden. The 108 stars were the worst part. They have no personality at all. It was ridiculous. They joined me for no reason, even when the story hadn't actually picked up and we didn't even know there was a proper antagonist (If you can call him that. Zzzzz). Walking around the ship and speaking to them only ever incited a "Hello Mr. Hero, or Hello Captin'" Practically nothing was shed about any of their backgrounds, personalities or motivations.

Not to mention the FUCKING boat. Ugh. I knew I hated boats. It's like it's being steered by my granny, who refuses to go above the required speed limit.

Graphics were pretty bland, shades of grey everywhere. Grey towns, grey skies, grey soil, grey ruins. Everything is grey.

I only ever got attached to one character, Elenore Silverberg - who is the only character to get any significant depth.

That being said, I will be buying Tactics.

Several reasons include.

People say it is better.

Some characters are actually fleshed out.

and I sat through those long-ass credits so I could save it post-game so I could transfer the save.

Oh, there is a turn-based one for the DS? Colour me intrigued. I'll start paying more attention to this now.

I would be game. I'm in the middle of moving back to the UK though, so it'll probably have to wait till after that.

I'm not sure if any Tales games would qualify in my books..

I second Suikoden 2. Whether you think the translation was crap or not, the actually story was really good.

That brings up a notable point; are we talking about story, just the writing, or both?

I've been thinking it's good story combined with good presentation. If the game is well translated, with perfect spelling and grammar , but fails to connect, or comes off to dry, I would consider it a failure in writing.

I want to make love to Turnbaseddude's room.

Aw, yeah.

I am just slow glad this was caught on camera.

EDIT: Slow? Why did I say slow? I meant so. Maybe I said slow because I am slow, and my fingers are just giving me one of their subtle reminders. I should stop now. Stopping....now.

Suikoden 2 is all I can think of at this moment that hasn't been mentioned. I'm enamored with that game at the moment.

EDIT: Moment.
2815  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The "Fucking JRPGs" Thread on: September 18, 2010, 01:21:39 PM
Come on guys, is there really any question here? While I can see someone making this argument in the NES-PS1 eras, but since then, JRPGs just don't innovate anymore. For me to get an actually good, really polished, well written and acted, AND still manages to get gameplay right, you HAVE to be Atlus' SMT team now a days.

Too true, too true.

Though JRPG's may be dead in the water just now, I still haven't played a WRPG I have enjoyed. Any RPG's that I have enjoyed from the west (mostly indie) have taken their mold from JRPG's rather than WRPGs.
Do you mean like RPG maker games?

A couple, I spose, but it's always nicer if it wasn't made on RPGmaker.

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Oh, my. This, thank you. I thought this was a fever dream I had when I had Pneumonia as a kid. Nice to know it actually exists.
2818  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Japanese Gamers are Overwhelmed by Western Graphics on: September 17, 2010, 11:31:11 PM
Remember kids, if it doesn't look like a movie, it ain't worth playing. /sarcasm

Seriously though, generalizing much? They like what they like, they grew up on it and it is what they are accustomed to.

Why do YOU care that they don't play the games you like?

EDIT: Also, those quotes came off really condescending. Like Japanese gamers can't wrap their TEENY TINY little brains around nice graphics. They obviously know the technology exists, it's been implemented in FFXIII and many CGI movies.
2819  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: September 17, 2010, 09:10:40 AM
If anything, Kanji's sexuallity only came up after the Bathhouse because Yosuke wouldn't stop mentioning it. I've met a few "straight" guys who when they actually meet a gay guy constantly bring up their sexuality because, really, they have something they want to get off their chest. I've had this conversation with at least 3 guys, I have learned to just be polite when it happens.

"So, you're gay?"

"Yeah."

"Me too."

"Oh?"

"HAHAHAHAH, omg no! I was KIDDING. Geezus! Hahaha....heh..."
2820  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito XIII Footage on: September 17, 2010, 08:19:19 AM
I have a feeling Versus is going to suck so bad lol. But of course, people will still claim its the best game to come out since FF7 blah blah.
I cringe whenever I read comments about how "The main character look sad, but also very determined to carry on with his duty". Man what the fucking fuck, I swear rabid Final Fantasy fans can be some of the most dipshit people in existence.

I hate Final Fantasy.

Me too. :(

Makes me regret wasting my formative years worshiping it.
