3136  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What do you think of Spoony's Final Fantasy Reviews? on: July 21, 2011, 11:20:12 AM
I dislike Spoony. As an Internet personality I just find him grating. I also actually have issue with calling what he does "reviewing" but maybe that's just me. While I find people like the Nostalgia Critic and Yahtzee entertaining, I am not willing to trust their opinion. Afterall, they aren't actually giving you their real opinion. They are characters - larger than life versions of themselves. And since their ego's are blown out of proportion, so are their opinions. While they might not like something, they may not hate it as much as their videos would lead you to believe.

So, to answer the question, I don't think very much of his Final Fantasy videos.

(As a note, I know both Yahtzee and Spoony do written reviews that are not fuelled by the persona they have cultivated, and are generally much better ways to gauge their own personal opinion on a game.)

I know this only recently reached critical mass in America, but I've been hearing about this for so long now I think my ears are going to fall off.

I had no problem except for the battle theme. It was really grating and just not a good decision on their part.

I used to think trutles were like Hermit crabs, and they just wandered into a shell when they were babies and grew inside of it.

Haha, oh yeah. We still haven't set you straight about that. If you pardon the pun.
3143  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The word: gameplay on: July 14, 2011, 05:00:05 PM
Oh look, it's people telling you how to think and speak again! This person would be less upset if we made up a word like "mangangulus" to replace the word gameplay.

Oh, the graphics weren't very good but the mangangulus was fantastic!

It's called gameplay because that's the way the game plays. It is not The Game. The Game is the entire package.

The writer may have a point about it not following the usual rules of the English language, but so what? Plenty of people throughout history have hated certain words because they view them as silly/inferior/barbarous. Believe it or not using words such as "Lengthy", "Reliable", "Talented", "Influential" and "Tremendous" all received flak from many English "experts" such as novelists, writers, poets and other academics. People obviously got over THAT.

No one is confused. People may use it wrongly, but fuck them. There are people who get the meaning of a word way off with everything. The person who told the dev that the explosion was bad gameplay was clearly a moron. The problem here isn't with words, it is with stupid people who refuse to use the word correctly. My, we sure do love making a big deal out of nothing. Don't we. :P

It's mostly just a news stream, they won't reply if they don't think they will get one back. Facebook allows them to interact with other people better than Twitter does in that regard.

WTF!!!

I worked every single day and I ended up dead! I could've taken Molly to the park once at least :(

I created the cure but was the only one that could use it... in the end... alone in the park... forever.

Died in the park with my daughter in my arms.

Yeah, I though this might have come up at some point, browsed through a few pages of this section of the forums but couldn't find it. I can see this as potential flame bait, but you'll still need to be signed up to post so it doesn't really differ that much from the forums. The reason I'm suggesting this is because there are times where I would like to leave some feedback. For example, I love the music in that indie games trailer they posted today, but it seems highly impractical to start a new topic just to say that.

If you have facebook or twitter you can comment that way?

EDIT: Comments on news defiantly doesn't seem as bad as comments on the actual reviews.

I suggested this once a while ago as well (as I'm sure other people have). The more I think about it, the more it doesn't seem necessary. We already talk about the news stories on games on the forums and it would be a shame to see them become less active because people have already said their piece on the matter on a comment box. Also, now that I am a reviewer I would never want a comment section on reviews!  XD

Who is the most vocal when it comes to game reviews? The people who disagree with you. People who agree with you never say so, they just nod their head and get on with their business. If someone disagrees with you, you will know about it, then in a years time when people look back on that review they are just gonna see a big list of complaints and then it will make it seem like you didn't have a valid point.

That's just the way I see it, anyway. The guys in charge may have a totally different reason.
