1  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Free Demo for 'Stone Age:Square Battle' on: October 27, 2011, 02:41:22 PM
I actually checked the site earlier while you were in the middle of updating, I think.

It's nice that the new screenshots tip people off that they're swinging a feather in battle instead of a sword; and I like the new group shot a lot, yet the lack of NPC shopkeeper art makes me a little sad.

In-game, I enjoyed the little exclamation points that appear by NPCs when you're facing them if they have something new to say.  Usually, when I run into games where townsfolk have two or more speeches to deliver to me, I wind up wasting time talking to them even more than that because the lines tend to be randomly chosen.  I did notice some typos here and there, but nothing that can't be tidied up easily.

I was sorry to see we don't get any special attacks to mess with in the demo, but it does start from level 1, so it wasn't completely unexpected.

It's good to see the caterpillar train in motion; I'm glad you were able to make it work.  It's also nice to hear a little voice work.

I like the new Attack, Defend, etc. buttons, too.

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to give a shout-out here to bring some attention to the broken system for approval on this forum. I'm not Ryougakusha. This is my cousin's forum account, and I've hijacked it. (so administrator don't blame him) I'm actually the webmaster at GravelTrain.com and I was hoping to use this forum to initiate a conversation with my intended audience to get some ideas, criticism etc.

My problem is the approval process as is doesn't work. I've tried 2 times to set up an account here and never got any kind of followup, feedback or approval. Is this a super exclusive club???

It's obviously not my intention to offend anyone, so don't take this as something it's not. But for the love of JRPGs, fix what's broken.

Well, there's been an update to the website. I've ( 'I' being the webmaster of graveltrain ) added a 'Characters' page with a few character profile pics uploaded. I'll post the main hero here....  Hope this gets a little discussion going.

By the way I am NOT Ryougakusha. This is my cousin's account and I'm forced to use it because both of my attempts to become a member on this message board went unanswered. (I'm posting a real complaint elsewhere on the forum). Now that I've bored everyone with my forum woes, I'll get back to the game. Does anyone have any questions or comments?

At any rate, enjoy the pics :)

I noticed the Gravel Train site also has an indie gaming blog link and Facebook link on it, now.  From what I can tell, it seems like the guy might start posting updated screens and info now and then on the blog.

For anime, I suppose Samurai Champloo, although Sword of the Stranger is pretty close behind.  (Samurai Jack gets honorable mention.)

I'd have to go with either When the Last Sword is Drawn, or Yojimbo for live-action.  But speaking of the Zatoichi remake, I really do need to see that sometime -- one of my cousins saw it a while ago and said it was pretty freaking good.

For anyone else who's interested in RPG2 by Gravel Train, I noticed a preview movie was posted within the last week, and the gallery seems to have a handful of new screens.
