Secret of Mana.
Weapon and Spell levels done right (it helped that there wasn't much of an inventory to fall back on to make the game unloseable).
Weapon, yes. Spell, no. Leveling up spells was a stupid and tedious process. If you didn't grind them out, they were useless through "regular gameplay" experience. When I played through SoM for the first time the only spell levels I got to lv 8 were the Girl's Water magic and the Sprite's Wind magic I didn't really need to grind and those spells served me just fine for the most part. The game is still playable without having to grind your magic levels to 8 and in fact improves the experience (I, for the longest time, thought that the Mana Beast was the game's most challenging boss fight due to the fact that you couldn't dodge his attacks and magic didn't work on him and you were probably already drained in items and MP from the last dungeon/Dark Lich boss fights). Not to mention once you get each elemental magic levels to 8 you get access to special versions of those same spells which i say is worth leveling up to 8. (The ones that change animations and are a lot cooler) Secret of Evermore on the other hand you really did not need to level up all the alchemy to a really high level unless you want to make the effects of such alchemy as Barrier or Defender become more effective and lasting longer periods of time.

Hmm well for my first Megami Tensei game was Revelations persona for the PS1 I really liked how you had to really work hard to get the much more powerful persona's as well as getting equipment that is often unavaliable in shops. Though it get's pretty ridiculous once you start seeing requirements for some of the very powerful ones at Lv 70. which require a certain item as well as a specific spellcard. Inculding one item which requires sucessive contact from every demon in the game. It's quite tedious though but it's worth it in the long run.
But there is one game i would like to play that's part of the series called Majin Tensei.

Well mystic quest is a good game plus it's one of the few games where the max level is'nt 99 it's actually 42 since i actually took my sweet time to replay dungeons after i beat them and killing all the enemies.
Anyway it's pretty good if you have the patience especially with the later dungeons starting with the Ice Pyramid when there's tons of monsters.

This is a good point, and along with borrowed graphics stands the two reasons that made me stopped bothering with RPG maker games any more. It's really, really hard to take any of those seriously for me.
Well borrowed graphics is ok also but they have to be pretty uncommon a lot of those graphics are Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc. As long as you use them wisely. Look at AlterALIA for Example The final dungeon of the true route (Innovator). Avalon uses borrowed resources since it's a flying advanced fortress in a post apocalyptic world. It's makes a lot of sence using those resources.

5) This only applies to freeware RPG Maker games, but I don't like it when those games use borrowed music from other RPGs. I don't enjoy hearing, say, Final Fantasy music in a game that isn't Final Fantasy.
I have to agree with you on that. Many RPG Maker Games i've been hearing common rpg music form well known games. Namely Final Fantasy and Xenogears. If you going to use music from other video games. Use some that actually fit the theme of the dungeon, and are not well known. A notorious example Dark Eternal Dissolution. There's a lot of music from Chrono Trigger and Cross in there. Oh and don't get me started on a certain anime music that's in there too.

Well all that's left is Dragon Quest 6 and i wonder how it's going to be handled. Since it's the only game in the series that has'nt been remade till now.

Growlanser 2 has a few paths where you can join the villains. Those were my favorite parts of the game.
Ohh did I ever love choosing to overthrow the kingdom. :) Toot bad you don't get that option till you have Mission Completes on every stroy battle. even some of the more difficult ones.

*yawn*
I'm sure furries all around the internet are up in arms, but I can't be bothered to lament the loss of a five game series that only had one decent entry. :P
Hmm i doubt that unless someone here is a furry and they will not admit it. And besides i have not played 5. but played 1 through 4 i thought they were pretty decent games.

I'm tired of getting the shaft.
Seriously. We vote with our purchases, so it may be worth your while to never buy a JRPG when the localization involves having cut content. We want the whole thing, every time. That is a shame about the DQIV party talk, now that you mention it. :) I have to agree with the party talk option taken out. That would've helped get to know the characters a lot better. Who wants to bet the next two DQ games when they come out of north america will have cut out content.

Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Rhapsody port on DS?!

A new development,
Apparently the Japanese version of the port had some content from Angel's Story (third game in the series) that you unlocked after clearing the game...
And NISA did the localization for this content...
And they advertise the content on the official site....
But NO ONE can access it.
When I beat Rhapsody DS, I noticed the prompt for saving game clear data after the end credits, which I did. But then, no changes. I didn't think anything of it, because I was going through the game blind (and long before the new content was being advertised). But now there are lots of gamers on the GameFAQs boards and NISA's own forums asking about this. It's been a week, and thus far, no solid answers.
Chances are, it's a glitch. In fact, a lot of gamers are reporting glitches and bugs for Rhapsody DS. I had none in my playthrough, but others are having problems.
If NISA doesn't solve these problems in short order and just lets it go, I may find myself revising the review I posted to notify consumers (and penalize NISA for their mistake).
It's like, what if Atlus USA *had* translated the Snow Queen portion of Persona but then just axed it for no reason? Pure stupidity...
If this is true, NISA really needs to work on their debugging. AI and AI2 had some serious bugs. How many people beat AI only to have the game crash going into the credits? I did notice a few slight bugs in AI But i just beat Rhapsody this morning. and indeed this is a serious issue. not being able to access the extra content. especially the content from Angel Story. since that content fleshes out the story of rhapsody even more. Oh and there's even more about this on gamefaqs. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=946831&topic=45898255
