76  Media / Single-Player RPGs / scaling enemies to your experience level on: April 11, 2007, 12:48:37 PM
I know the romancing saga series had this feature.

Especially Saga Frontier.  The leveling scale was based on how strong your party members were. Especially with up to fifteen characters. if you trained one group and left the rest weakened. then the enemeis suddenly become really tough to beat.

Hoshigami aslo had this but there was a level cap on how strong the enemy was. so you can just overlevel to find out the level cap for the enemies.

I like the malboro's and tonberries(pugs) from the FF series.

I agree not to mention extremely annoying and deadly.

79  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Worst RPG you've ever played. on: November 22, 2006, 04:48:35 PM
Worst RPG Beyond the Beyond, and it was my first one on the playstation.

There's are several things that gripes me about it.

High random encounter.
Random stat gains many even VP worth one point at level up.

Lack of a magic defense stat. the only item in the beginning you can get is a Resist jewel which permanently raises magic defense. but you can only find one. later on you can buy them at the secret shop.

The later enemies were brutal with their magic attacks.

For me Mystic Quest was a alright series. but the music was the beat part about it.

Also i'm guess im one of the few people who managed to get the main character to his maximum level 41.

But it was worth all that leveling up.

As of August 2.

Atelier Iris 2 The Azoth of Destiny:

All i have to do now since  i beat the game. Is the difficult Dragons Den battles. with an infamous boss in one of the those trials.

Plus i swear many of those enemis can only be found in the ultamate trials.

I always love it when the "Sleep" spell works.

Yea, funny how that is.  So many RPGs, especially today, have backed into this pattern that, if they even have a "sleep" spell at all (or a "poison the enemy" spell, or a "turn enemy to stone" spell, or a "paralyze the enemy" spell, and so on and so forth) that it basically, never works, except on monsters who are so weak that you barely need it anyway.

Look, I want to see magic in my RPGs.  I want to see enemies caught in spider webs, walls that dematerialize, transport to higher planes. I don't want to see endless retreads of your basic fireball.  Thunder, Thundera, Thunderaga is not magic, it's cheap and uncreative, and barely scratches the surface of the gameplay potential of this unique fantasy force.

Hmm you know i have to agree with you about this you know just once  i'd like to see status ailement spells works on bosses for once.

Speaking of which it would be more beneificial if there was at least an Strategy RPG that actually made status effects more useful.
If there's a spell called "Waka Laka," it better as hell make me fly.

Basically i was wondering it was only a matter of time before someone in the forums about emulation/emulators. Cause in many of the gamefaqs forums there's been a lot of talk about it.

Basically i read the rules about the piracy issue here is it even ok to talk about emulators.

Cause i just want to be sure cause i would want to talk about it.

Just wanted to know.

Trid- I think it's a universal truth that in any video game, RPG or otherwise, the desert is always the most annoying dungeon/stage.  For me the worst desert had to be the one in Stupid Invaders.  Every screen looked exactly the same and you had to do them in a certain order to get to where you needed to go, or you'd die.  And there were NO HINTS for navigation as far as I could find.  I had to use a FAQ for it and I have no clue how the FAQ writer figured it out.

You are pretty much right about that.

For me it's...

Sidequests that are totally pointless unless it's worth it in the long run.

Shops that have better weapons 5 minutes as soon as you buy the previous weapon.

Skills that are totally useless in game.

Certain Status ailements that are inefective against bosses.

And one of my complaints is....
Code:
Breath of fire 3 Desert of Death that was a really difficult to get out of.
