16  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Atelier Series on: November 25, 2014, 06:50:09 AM
I know the game is old but recently I decided to get Mana Khemia from the PS store fro the Vita. I knew beforehand the port didn't run well on the PSP but I read somewhere it ran pretty good on the Vita and I can confirm it does.
It does take a while the get used to the muddy backgrounds but the game is great. It starts slow but the characters, the battle, the level up system, the alchemy, it all works so well and they all make the game so much fun.

I became a fan of the Atelier series during the PS3 era so I didn't play any of the previous ones. I didn't have much expectations for this game but I can safely say it surpassed them already and I'm only about 12 hours in.
If anyone here is like me and started playing the Atelier series recently and didn't play the old games, I can already recommend this game. From what I've seen playing it on a PS2 should be much better since it has better visual, loadings (although the Vita loads it instantly) and dual audio which the PSP version doesn't have.

I bought this game while waiting for my copy of Escha & Logy to arrive from mail and now it is still closed while I play this game.

So, anyone else have played this or the sequel, Mana Khemia 2?

I see. Well, good thing I decided to ask. As fun as the combat is seeing the same scenery all the time kind of gets to you.

I know I'm late to the party, very late actually, but I just beat Tales of Xillia. In short I liked it so much I decided to write a review for it, my personal thoughts on where I think the game shines and where it could be better.
If anyone would like to check it out, I'd really appreciate it.

So, after enjoying the game so much I'm wondering on getting Xillia 2. The question is if now or later. For those who have played it, is it too similar because if it is I might get burned out a little bit.
I saw some reviews saying many areas are the same but are the characters and all worth it for me to jump straight into the sequel I perhaps I should give it some more time.

Oh, and how does the sequel compare to the original? About the same?

I'm really hyped for this game. I loved Etrian Odyssey IV but now the characters have a good personality to them, and it might even have a nice story which is a plus.
I'm just a bit sad about the release date. I doubt I'll be able to get the game where I live before next year.

Like others, I'm amazed about how much time I've put into some franchises and also, in many of the games I seem to take more time than the average.
In the end the time I spend with a game depends on how good it is to grab my attention and also if I don't give a particular game long breaks.

While I have a big backlog, if by some reason I don't want to play a game anymore I will just drop it, well, 90% of the time, but I have to admit it is fun to beat more and more games of a franchise you are a fan of.
I remember when I was playing Persona: Innocent Sin I was a little burned from too much dungeons and I decided to give it some time, which ended up being months, only to find out I on the last floor of the last dungeon of the game. When stuff like this happens, why not force a bit and finish the game.

What a trailer! I was speechless with the vistas shown.
Square does know how to make an awesome trailer!

Well, when we get Type-0 we'll finally get to see some of it first hand!

I just the saw video of Zesteria and I have to say I'm impressed!
In a way it reminds me how the scale was improved from FFX to FFXII in the PS2 days, this game does looks like that to me.

I'm still halfway through Xillia so at least in June next year I'll have it beaten and possibly Xillia 2.

I personally think Virtue's Last Reward can be enjoyed even without having played 999, and it's a great game, so if it's cheap I recommend it. Hell, I would recommend it even at full price. I bought it at release date and I think it was the first Vita game I got the platinum trophy, that's was without even trying, just because as every nook and cranny of the story unfolds the more engaged to it you get.

I'd get Meruru Plus for the Vita if it had a discount on the US store.
I didn't think Meruru was the best protagonist but as far as game goes, I think her game was the best by far.

The dub in general wasn't bad, the sad thing was the main character was. Also I think not even half of the dialogues were dubbed which is understandable for a small title but this is why some of us like to have the original audio where everything is voiced.

That book makes me wish I didn't "pause" my Digital Devil Saga.
I really considering getting this book, and maybe playing the game to completion.

The game was just a bit grindy but what am I complaining, it's Atlus and I should have know better. The game is much much easier than Nocturne but while not particularly hard, you need to keep aware of some stuff and I particularly found necessary to grind for macca so I can buy myself new spells.

I'm still playing the first game, on chapter 2 but so far I'm loving it, the characters much more than the story itself, so if some are returning I'll be sure to get it!

On my pc it runs fine. Granted, I recommended it to a friend and like you guys feared his laptop couldn't handle the game, not because of slowdown but somehow he could not see the ships during battles.

From what I've seen, although I may be mistaken, the developers said the game was meant to be free all the way.
They are still patching some stuff but as far as it goes it is complete, at least as far as their initial goal of completion was. So even if it has a hook for a sequel, it should have an ending of its own.

I like how these games have added a disclaimer saying where there are events. I am so tired of running around town every day in order not to miss an event. Now I can see the events right away and go there.

I'm glad to see they added flags for the events. With me it happened almost like you, I played most of Ayesha but didn't trigger a certain event which was necessary for the story to advance, when I finally managed to see it I had little time to do anything else and had to run through the story.
After this I decided to give the Atelier series some time to breath. Not much, I just think I'll wait for the Vita version of Escha & Loggy instead of getting the PS3 version. I might even try the Japanese version if I manage to find it at a good price.
Like you said, I don't replay them, at least not as soon as I finish them, so I like to give some time before going back to them.
30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Sunrider: First Arrival on: July 21, 2014, 07:27:44 PM
Have anyone else seen this game called Sunrider: First Arrival on Steam ?

Basically it's a Visual novel mixed with Strategy RPG. The scenario is something of a space opera where you are the captain of a spaceship on the run from some tyrants of the galaxy and along the way you recruit new people to your crew and makes choices along the way.

After having played two hours I must admit I'm pretty impressed. The characters I've met, even if stereotypes, are interesting. The music is excellent, I can't stress how much I enjoy it, it really helps setting the mood of the game.
Oh, and the best part, it's completely free, no microtransactions, no catches. From the little I've looked into, it's a successful kickstarter that made this possible.

So, I highly recommend this for both SRPG fans and Visual Novel fans alike. There's even a "Visual Novel" difficulty level for those that just want to enjoy the story, because I heard this game gets really hard on normal.
