If this happens to be true I hope they don't release it the same day of SMT IV (or GTAV).
If this game is good, which it seems to be, I hope it surpasses expectation of sales (however ridiculous SE have them nowadays) just so they can see it doesn't have to have a Final Fantasy name on every game they release on the West.
17  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Summon Night Series on: March 31, 2013, 08:54:31 PM
So I watched this new trailer for the Summon Night series, the 5th game which is coming to the Vita ans I though it does look pretty nice.
This is a series for me that seems to have always flow under the radar. I kind of heard about it, but nothing more than that, until I did some research just now I thought this series was exclusive to the DS.

Anyway, since I saw the trailer and got interested, anyone here has any sort of experience with this series?
18  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on: March 30, 2013, 11:05:30 AM
I have seen this somewhere I don't remember now, but in short the (whatever it was) said that many RPG fans (as is my case) go to the for the story but these days you don't need to go to an RPG specifically when you want to get invested in a world. Sure there are other things in RPG, just as they still appeal to us to this day, but one big point is lost, I mean, not lost but it can be achieved in other genres just as well.

No no Kuni is a game I'm liking but I'm sure I would have liked it more some time ago. I still have fun every time I play it but it just doesn't pull me in like some others do.
I liked the editorial a lot myself, I'm just in a somewhat random spot where I can't be sure if an RPG will grab me or not. I don't know if the thing are the mechanics or the characters or whatever. Some games like P4Golden, Etrian Odyssey 4, Totori and Meruru, Dark Souls and FFXIII-2 I can play for hours and not even remember when I started while others like Ni no Knui I do have a good time but I don't have an urge to play all the time.

On the other hand, at least the Ni no Kuni type, at least I feel I can play while doing something else, If I need to go out in a certain time for some reason, I can grind a bit for money or familiars and it is still fun to do so.

In the end, we longtime fans of JRPGs should just lower ours expectations a bit, at least that's what I'm doing as there's no magic recipe for a good JRPG.
19  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Sully: A very Serious RPG on: March 27, 2013, 09:09:35 PM

So I saw this article and video on Siliconera about this new RPG. I wasn't expecting much until I watched the trailer which caught me off guard and it seems pretty funny!

If anything, I reminds me of Half Minute Hero, not only because of the retro looks, but also the abilities the flash through regular encounters.
Also, besides computers, it's coming to the Vita which I think is nice, I always like to have some RPG to play on the go, especially being able to quickly turn it on and off and resume anytime.
20  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Spec Ops: The Line on: March 27, 2013, 05:48:40 AM
I played it with PS+ as well, and like you said, it messes with you in a way I haven't seen before.

Another video people should see if they are on the fence about Spec Ops is the video from Penny Arcade's Extra Credits. It explains why the story is so compelling and more. They have a two part review but the other is better to watch if you have already played the game or don't mind spoilers.
21  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Eska & Rosy uses the Dynasty Warriors engine (no, not Atelier Warriors) on: March 27, 2013, 05:32:32 AM
I haven't seen many pictures so far but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. It seems the models look even better and both main characters seem likeable from the get go.

It seems it is supposed to have full lip sync this time around.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Etrian Odyssey IV announced for 3DS on: March 26, 2013, 08:06:50 AM
My EOIV should arrive today or at worse tomorrow (and I got it shipped before release) and where already anticipating news of the next one.

Funny thing about this series is when I played a little of EOIII I hated drawing my maps but surprisingly playing the demo of IV it wasn't that bad. I think this comes down to getting better at it and soon enough you won't spend too much time on it.

Since I'll start when most here are finishing, whatare the classes you find invaluable during the couse of the game? In the demo the ones I don't consider swtiching are Landsknecht, Medic and Dancer (which grew a lot on me lately).
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Eska & Rosy uses the Dynasty Warriors engine (no, not Atelier Warriors) on: March 26, 2013, 08:01:28 AM
As long as Gust characters don't look like Dynasty Warriors characters they could use whatever engine they feel like. I just hope this doesn't mean we'll lose the details Gust puts in their games because DW for me looks a little bland.
24  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon's Crown (Vanillaware RPG, now 2013 all regions) announced for PS3/Vita on: March 25, 2013, 09:29:41 PM
I'm considering getting on the Vita for the portability and the OLED screen but on the PS3 the bigger screen would make it better to sell all the details Vanillaware puts into the game.

I think for me it will depend on the size of the characters during gameplay.
The thing with Vanillaware games is that they are so beautiful I want to appreciate them the best way I can.

Off topic, I'm glad Muramasa is getting a jump button. I liked it on the Wii but ended up no finishing it, I probably got sidetracked by some other game. Also, I loved Odin Sphere and it took me literally years to beait it, I just wish some bosses weren't so hard, especially the ones that loved spamming status effects on you.
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mind 0 is not Persona...er...well...maybe not... on: March 21, 2013, 01:54:33 PM
So far I'm liking what I'm seeing. It my not look as polished as its inspiration but so far it certainly looks like it can be fun. If anything I'm happy to see some more RPGs on the Vita that are not ports.

Also,so what if it is a little too much like Persona? It's not as if Japanese developers weren't copying themselves all the time ans just because it is heavily inspired doesn't mean it can't pull out something fresh.

Just looking at Monter Hunter and its "clones" we can see there is space for many more clones and like Kevadu said, it's not like Persona has been copied so far.
26  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Annoying Moments in otherwise Great Games on: March 20, 2013, 12:07:42 AM
Mass Effect: Anything with the Mako (seconded)
Demon's Souls - Tower of Latria (Not only it's hard but it's also a maze)
Corpse Party - Chased by ghost sequences

That's what I remember now but give me another day I think I can think of a lot more, of course, restricted to RPGs I do have a lot less to complain, especially if the game needs to be great in the first place.
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: March 19, 2013, 02:35:17 PM
I agree with about the demon negotiating. For me the problem is that it takes way too much time, it feels too much random and gives so little reward.

In Nocturne there is only one character able to talk to demon but in IS there are five.
Even so, I would not like it to go away but like you said, different. If anything I wish it would be faster or at least not as frequent.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: March 19, 2013, 07:59:49 AM
I'm waiting anxiously for this I think I'll even buy it twice, one copy of  the Japanese region and of the North America one.

I'm not expacting mind blowing graphics, I'm just thinking of something like Catherine where the models look great and there are details everywhere in the scenarios.

They were talking about adding something, maybe the game will have a cellphone minigame like in Catherine that would points to get the next social link.
29  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Etrian Odyssey IV announced for 3DS on: March 15, 2013, 10:01:24 AM
While I patiently wait for me copy to arrive I've been reading through some EOIV forums and noticed a lot of people are talking about links.
From the little I managed to gather and understand, you use a Landsknecth, a Dancer and maybe some other classes and when one of your characters attack other follow up without wasting a turn.

So, anyone here have been using this? If so, can someone explain to me as I've been playing a lot of the demo and I do have multiple characters in some classes and I was thinking of trying it out. Maybe I'll like it, maybe I won't but at least I'd like to know what to do.
30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Recommendations for RPGs on a PSPgo? on: March 15, 2013, 08:15:18 AM
I would recommend Persona 3 Portable. It is a somewhat improved version of the PS2 game and even has the possibility to play with a female MC with a bunch of different stuff, if you played the original.

Aother game I recommend is Corpse Part. This is more a survival horror than an RPG but if I'm not mistaken it was reviwed here, so it should count. This game has some great atmosphere, some shocking scenes and really good music.
