When I heard the news of Innocent Sin I JIZZED IN MY PANTS!

Guys, the good news about this, not only that this is a great game is that it's Atlus. It's not Namco or Square-Enix, if it's Atlus we can be sure they'll localize. It doesn't have vocie acting, and it will probably be released on PSN so coasts will be low for a localization. I say I'm positive this will be localized!

Oh, and just for the sake of confusion, Innocent Sin is the first one, right ? Then comes Eternal Punishment, right ?

Be warned that Suikoden games are not for everyone. I was already playing tons of RPGs and heard about the Suikoden series and that they were good. So I got Suikoden III and I hated every little thing in it. I even lent it to my cousin to see if he would find something to like about it or the problem was with me and we both hated it.

If I were you I'd go with hell_snake's recommendation of FFX, Tales of the Abyss and Dragon Quest VIII. They are enjoyable and very pick up and play.

I really cannot wait to dive in the world of RPGs. No more pricks, no more gold sellers, no more nerfing down my precious toon. Nothing but quality story and gameplay.

You have pretty much simplified all my thought about most MMOs I've tried in two lines of text!
The lack of story in MMOs was always a downside for me. Also the fact that play like a manic the people you are used to playing with start bitching.

As a suggestion for a PS2 title that might be good for a console RPG newcomer I'd recommend Tales of the Abyss. I have to confess the first "tales of" game I played was Vesperia, and after that I played about 10 hours of Abyss and it's really fun too.

Oh, and before lots of recommendations start popping at a faster pace than you can read, I assume your pc can play WoW. Would you say it can run Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 2, because they're really good.
If it doesn't, before you buy a ps2, one of my favorite games of all time, is able to run on pretty much any pc these days and on steam it's really cheap: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. In short, one of the best games and story I have ever see. And since you've been playing wow the western interface may be more familiar to you.

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind.
I just tracked my game and it should arrive next week!
From reading and all I good thing I could find was to use that teleport item to get out of dungeons as you don't use the time needed to get back to the workshop, so you use only half the time.

Come on man, just share your opinion. This is just the internet one time or another you're gonna get trolled, so who cares ?
Especially when you're not arguing about some pointless thing with someone, you're just expressing your opinion. There's a certain someone here on the forums who goes rampage about anyone who likes FFXIII and I did like the game. I among some other have managed to get hit by his "collateral damage", but do you think I care about this ? NO. I don't give a rat's ass and just move on to the next topic. Simple as that.
771  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: My tastes in RPG's have really changed. on: October 21, 2010, 10:54:29 AM
Do you think Nier is better than Vesperia and Dragon Age ? I'm not asking this to piss you off or anything is that I'm sincerely thinking of giving Nier a chance, but that shallow hack n' slash nature of it kind of pushes me away. The story I know people are saying it's great but every video I see of it the impression I have is that all you have to do is press the attack button non-stop. Not to mention that those enemies between bosses look boring and lifeless as hell.

In youtube I've watched up to the part where you meet "Kaine" for the first time. Beside she cursing and something interesting from Grimoire Vice sometimes I still haven't seem much on it.

Back to RPG tastes, I'm in a mood now that I don't want anything too challenging, so if I'll play Dragon Age or Fallout I'll use a gold trick or something, or like just recently I ordered Atelier Rorona which is much easier than most RPGs, since when you die, you just go back home, you don't really die. Maybe when I get full of it and get eager for some challenge I'll give Demon's Souls another shot.
Both Persona 3 and 4 are games that I took almost an year to finish but enjoyed each moment of it. I promised myself I'd never finish a game just for the sake of finishing it, if I'll play it, I must have fun while doing so.

Mine is yet to arrive. The shipping from Hong Kong is usually fast to come here, but the clearance of customs takes a while.
The thing that makes me pissed for owing them legally is having to wait so much to actually get the game. For example, I had to mod my Wii because is is japanese, so it's not region locked anymore, and when I buy a game on it while I wait I'll go and burn a back so I can play right away, instead of waiting ages for it to arrive.

Well, finally finished my first playthrough.  Got 100% popularity and 100 friendship level with every character.  I really didn't think it was that hard.  Did take a lot of time in the real life time, though.  Much of which was spent doing nothing by managing my inventory...

As I planned I set it up so that my performance on the last assignment will determine my ending, so I just have to replay the last 3 months (and not work very hard at it...) to get the 'good' ending (got 'true' my first time).  Unfortunately, I can't get 'normal' or 'bad' because it seems no matter what I do my popularity won't drop.  It would naturally fluctuate back when I was still building it up (seems to drop if you don't do any jobs for a while), but it seems that once it hits the magic 100 it's locked in.  There's nothing you can do to make people dislike you after that.

You did all that in your first playthrough ? Wow!
Would you care for some tips ?
Actually I have a question too, you know that girl who stays next to Stern taking quests ? Is she the one that raises your popularity ?

So this game is kind of frustrating to the bones. I do enjoy some challenge but one hit ko is too much for me.
A shame because it does looks like it has some charm.

The games are meant more to appeal to people who used to have to draw their own maps for games ANYWAY.  I have fond memories of mapping out dungeons in old NES/SNES RPG's, so I'm pretty much the prime target group for this game.

From this I'm the exact opposite hehe, if I ever felt like I needed to draw a map or anything that is way too complex, I'd look for a guide right away. Xenogears comes to mind! I was so pissed with some dungeons in that game that after I spent so much time on one, I picked up a guide at a store (which later I found out was a one to one translated copy of a faq in gamefaqs) and played half of the game with it.

The encounter rate in P1 is overkill and the battle take way too long for a rate this high. Sure Strange Journey is high by today's standards or even Dragon Quest but at least in those most battles are over in a flash, plus you can even use an automated battle. Sadly enough there are some that say the story in P1 isn't that great either, unlike P2 which in less then 30 min in is already interesting and bu the end it only gets better.

I'd go with CDFN suggestion and start with Persona 3. But hey, maybe you could play it on the PSP if you have trouble finding it not to mention that you can control your party on the PSP unlike the PS2 version and that can save a lot of frustration.

I have yet to play DDS myself, I got DDS1 but I'm not having much time to play it, so I'm putting it on hold. Hell, I've waited more than 5 years to find out about it, another months won't hurt.
775  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Etrian Odyssey on: October 20, 2010, 09:10:05 PM
Rise from your grave! (as in Altered Beast)

Anyway, the new Etrian Odyssey III has just been released. If I'm not mistaken some people were interested in it and there was even a thread for the announcement of it but I found this one would be better to dig up since it could cover all three games.

I must say I was interested in this game when I first heard about it but when I found out that you have to draw yourself the maps for the dungeons I was instantly pushed away. I was already bored with the dungeons from SMT Strange Journey and they are automatic, let alone draw everything and make little notes.

Still, I'd like to know if anyone has seen it, played, any kind of first impressions.
776  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Professor Vs. Gyakuten Saiban (Layton Vs. Ace Attorney) announced for the 3DS on: October 19, 2010, 02:32:18 PM
I was in doubt of getting a 3DS right away, but the more I see it the more I want it. And even though I don't care for any of the remakes, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright and Resident Evil are reason enough for me to buy it.

But I hope they release the remaining Professor Layton games yet to be localized for the DS instead of the 3DS (like Capcom did with the Phoenix Wright games, as the first 3 ones were GBA games and for us only DS games).

The DS stylus isn't mandatory for about 99% of the RPG's on the machine. I don't like using it myself, but I've never been forced to.

It is just mandatory for the best RPG on the DS, The World Ends with You. Other than this, I think any other doesn't need the stylus.

With me ther ewere only a few SL I didn't enjoy. Interesting is that some mentioned the drama club girl as their favorite, for me she in the beginning was one of the most boring for me, but she does get a lot better halfway through.
I think my favorite were, first the nurse, the way she's always teasing you and all and second Rise, she's just so cute and trying to get off of showbiz and getting to a normal life. I found it incredibly interesting because japanese people give a lot of attention to those idols, even younger, not that famous, as if every one of them counts, so it seems like they put a character that felt like the most improbable to be put in a game and yet she was wonderful.

As the dungeons, my favorite was the one when

Even though I love my PSP maybe your "classic" style may be more suited for the DS.
Dragon Quest Iv, V, IX and maybe even VI. Even though DQ are not my cup of tea, a lot of people seem to like the old school style of them.
The two Megaten games on the DS are awesome, Devil Survivor, being one of my favorites this gen, not just the DS and Strange Journey.
And for the last on the DS on the top of my head, The World Ends with you. By far one of the most fun and creative RPGs in a long time.

Of course, on the DS there's Persona 3 Portable which for me would be enough to warrant a buy of the system and the game, and like many are saying here, there's a lot more. Jean of Arc is great, Valkyria Chronicles 2, FFVII Crisis Core is not everthing some people say it is, for me, but for anyone that has played FFVII that is surely one enjoyable ride.

A hard pick, but considering you want to plug into the TV and don't want to mess around with cartriges, I'd go with the PSP.

That's my point. Even three gets boring when you've got about 50 tiers to go.
I'm pointing on it because even though it's all optional, if you want to go through Neverland, the arena is a good place to level up but only the last 10 tiers or so. Yet you still have to go through all the crap and so many times.
