Rise from your grave! (as in Altered Beast)

Anyway, the new Etrian Odyssey III has just been released. If I'm not mistaken some people were interested in it and there was even a thread for the announcement of it but I found this one would be better to dig up since it could cover all three games.

I must say I was interested in this game when I first heard about it but when I found out that you have to draw yourself the maps for the dungeons I was instantly pushed away. I was already bored with the dungeons from SMT Strange Journey and they are automatic, let alone draw everything and make little notes.

Still, I'd like to know if anyone has seen it, played, any kind of first impressions.
782  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Professor Vs. Gyakuten Saiban (Layton Vs. Ace Attorney) announced for the 3DS on: October 19, 2010, 02:32:18 PM
I was in doubt of getting a 3DS right away, but the more I see it the more I want it. And even though I don't care for any of the remakes, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright and Resident Evil are reason enough for me to buy it.

But I hope they release the remaining Professor Layton games yet to be localized for the DS instead of the 3DS (like Capcom did with the Phoenix Wright games, as the first 3 ones were GBA games and for us only DS games).

The DS stylus isn't mandatory for about 99% of the RPG's on the machine. I don't like using it myself, but I've never been forced to.

It is just mandatory for the best RPG on the DS, The World Ends with You. Other than this, I think any other doesn't need the stylus.

With me ther ewere only a few SL I didn't enjoy. Interesting is that some mentioned the drama club girl as their favorite, for me she in the beginning was one of the most boring for me, but she does get a lot better halfway through.
I think my favorite were, first the nurse, the way she's always teasing you and all and second Rise, she's just so cute and trying to get off of showbiz and getting to a normal life. I found it incredibly interesting because japanese people give a lot of attention to those idols, even younger, not that famous, as if every one of them counts, so it seems like they put a character that felt like the most improbable to be put in a game and yet she was wonderful.

As the dungeons, my favorite was the one when

Even though I love my PSP maybe your "classic" style may be more suited for the DS.
Dragon Quest Iv, V, IX and maybe even VI. Even though DQ are not my cup of tea, a lot of people seem to like the old school style of them.
The two Megaten games on the DS are awesome, Devil Survivor, being one of my favorites this gen, not just the DS and Strange Journey.
And for the last on the DS on the top of my head, The World Ends with you. By far one of the most fun and creative RPGs in a long time.

Of course, on the DS there's Persona 3 Portable which for me would be enough to warrant a buy of the system and the game, and like many are saying here, there's a lot more. Jean of Arc is great, Valkyria Chronicles 2, FFVII Crisis Core is not everthing some people say it is, for me, but for anyone that has played FFVII that is surely one enjoyable ride.

A hard pick, but considering you want to plug into the TV and don't want to mess around with cartriges, I'd go with the PSP.

That's my point. Even three gets boring when you've got about 50 tiers to go.
I'm pointing on it because even though it's all optional, if you want to go through Neverland, the arena is a good place to level up but only the last 10 tiers or so. Yet you still have to go through all the crap and so many times.
787  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anyone planning to pick up Atelier Rorona? on: October 15, 2010, 12:35:21 PM
-.- Could it be that EU AR-release has been postphoned without larger notice?

Last time I checked release was stated for today (15th oct) but... checking out amazon now lists it for 22th? WTH?

I was looking forward to it and only didn't pre-order it in US because I thought I could wait those two weeks, but now it's almost a month later -.-
That's what I get for being patient for once...

You should have imported the asian version in english, that what I did. It was almost 10 dollars cheaper than the regular US version.
Well, I have to import either way because any game released here where I live, Brazil, could reach the equivalent of US$150. That's right, more than double the price. Noticing that you live either in AU or Europe, the price of the asian version should already be a bargain to you.
788  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: October 15, 2010, 12:22:19 PM
You said it. Most of the arena's battle I've done while at least listening to music, watching a funny show like family guy or south park on my pc while playing it.
I think Tri-Ace missed the point in the arena when they asked us to do each battle 3 times. It doesn't seem like much but that takes a looot of time.

If we're going to platinum, well, too bad for us, our decision but a regular playthrough should be more lenient. If it were for me, each battle in the arena would be a boss battle but with less required battles.
789  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Who is the most WOmanliest JRPG hero? on: October 14, 2010, 10:41:08 PM
Does it have to be main characters ? Because if not, we have a lot more options.
One I really like, even though not as strong as the ones mentioned above, my pick is Yuna from FFX and X-2.

She grows a lot during both games and at first, she was moved by sense of responsibility as her father was a great summoner but then, she is moved also by love, which carries on X-2. Silly, I know but hey, can't be more of a woman than being moved by love, right?

I liked it a lot too, it it kind of makes you wonder that in the first chapters they didn't tell much of the plot, they could've started sooner and saved us from this mess.

You're at 115 hours ? By this time I had already platinum' ed the game. I'm not saying it to brag about it, this to say, the Arena will take A LOT of your time.
Oh, and a suggestion, you should try the Arena before going to Neverland, at least level up a little. There's a trick in the fight 40 something, where you fight two helicopters; this is the best place to level up in the Arena, and from my pov in the game. Just don't kill the second chopper because this is a boss battle of the arena and once it's gone, it's really gone.
791  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: October 14, 2010, 01:07:37 AM
Don't feel bad, I felt the same way when I beat the game.
My tip, go to gamefaqs and search for the ending spoilers, explained and that. Helped me understand it but o be honest it doesn't make much of a difference as it is still a complete mess.
Still, if you do need some closure, like I do, they explain a lot of stuff like who that lady with horns is, and that Leanne has those glowing eyes at the ending (which is actually her crystal).
You really should go there, because from memory I honestly can't be of much help.
792  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Rune Factory Oceans announced for the PS3/Wii on: October 13, 2010, 01:01:46 PM
I watched some video reviews now. I gotta admit it does look quite enjoyable. I just ordered Atelier Rorona because I'm looking for something more relaxing and this one could be another good opton.
793  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Rune Factory Oceans announced for the PS3/Wii on: October 13, 2010, 12:17:49 PM
What's about Rune Factory that distinguishes it from Harvest Moon ? I honestly don't know and would like to if someone can give me a quick insight.
I've seen Harvest Moon once. I went to my friend's house and he was playing it. Looked like farmville. Not bad but from an spectator's point of view it didn't seen much different.
794  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: FFXIV Thread on: October 09, 2010, 09:27:54 PM
Man, I was hoping XIV could be playable but it seems it's much worse than XI.
And from what I see, this has done much more harm than good. Out of the basket a game no one will play and maybe even buy but considering there were still people playing XI which probably left to play XIV only to be disappointed and end up quitting both.

In spite wanting it to be good, seeing it as it is now makes me quite happy on the other side as SE will probably forget this MMO idea soon and give us a FF game worth of our time and money.

Say, as for not wasting those XIV graphics they could make a XIV spin off with this same world but put a story in it, some characters and we're good to go.
At least we can't complain anymore about it being linear :)
Hell, make a clone of XII in the world of XIV, I'm sure they could make it really fast.
795  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XIII on: October 09, 2010, 02:50:51 PM
Just listened to the link, it's really something else. Too bad XIV sucks.
You know Thoren, the way things are going, it appears you'll have to play Final Fantasies just to hear a good music until someone does some really meaningful changes hehe.

But don't feel bad as I feel this as I reach midpoint in every Dragon Quest game, at least in your case the soundtracks are better.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention this, the artwork of XIV in this link you sent is pretty cool. Kinda like FFT recent artwork.
I just wish they got the XIV ideas and made a Tactics game instead. Kinda like Disgaea on steroids.
Or even if they wanted to cut production coasts and all, they could make the graphics exactly like the picture of the video. Vesperia has this graphics, so does Totori no Atelier and Eternal Sonata and they look beautiful.

Hell, it could even be the models from 4 Heroes of Light as they do change appearance  as they change equips.
