796  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ninokuni (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) going PS3 on: October 06, 2010, 05:37:00 PM
Well, I think we can all agree on which one is prettier.
Considering it's Level-5, a studio that rarely screws up and Ghibli, a movie studio that is specialist in making masterpieces, I'd say we're safe. I wouldn't worry much, at least until we see one of them in actual playable form.
797  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anyone planning to pick up Atelier Rorona? on: October 06, 2010, 10:03:12 AM
I'm so tempted at getting it now. I think I just want a game like this, slow paced where I don't have to rush to do stuff all the time.

The thing is that Totori no Atelier looks so much more polished that it makes this one looks bad (which it isn't but in comparison).
I think I'll wait until the end of October to decide because after that it will be impossible to order anything online where I live because with christmas the post office here because a total mess.

EDIT:

What the hell, impulse buy! I just ordered it from play-asia! I even managed to find a $5 discount coupon, so no excuse huh :)
I needed something for my RPG fix during the holidays and this will be it!
Well, I'll leave my first impressions when the game arrives.

Demon's Souls ?

A little bump to this thread comes from this:

Famitsu - 'Greatest Games of All-Time' list by readers

1.Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP)
2.Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)
3.Final Fantasy XIII (PS3/360)
4.Final Fantasy X (PS2)
5.Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2)
6.Final Fantasy VII (PS)
7.Tales of Vesperia (PS3/360)
8.Xenogears (PS)
9.Monster Hunter Tri (Wii)
10.Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
11.Machi (SS)
12.Yakuza 4 (PS3)
13.Tales of the Abyss (PS2)
14.Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (PS2)
15.Okami (PS2)
16.Resident Evil 5 (PS3/360)
17.Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP)
18.Tales of Graces (Wii)
19.New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
20.Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES/PS)

Why would I put it in the RPG thread ? Well, considering more than half of the list are RPGs that's fair enough.
Oh, and this list is voted by readers, so we don't need to take into consideration the huge amounts of money famitsu probably charges for most of their reviews these days.
800  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New "The Last Story" images and details. Jan 27 release in JPN! on: October 02, 2010, 05:14:14 PM
I got mine in Japan because there compared to Brazil (where I live) it's so much cheaper, about less than half the price.
I bought mine because I'm interested in some survival horros and some RPGs but I ended up surprised that Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Wii ended up being awesome.

I thought I was going to play Tales of Graces on it, now I think the PS3 version has a much bigger chance of being localized.

About The Last Story, who's the publisher for it ? Maybe if we know we can guess better if it's coming or not. I don't think we should lose our hopes so quickly as a lot of RPGs seem to need to release in Japan before ever being announced here.
801  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Do you take notes on games? on: October 02, 2010, 02:44:54 AM
The only game I can remember on the top of my head I used something more then the controller is Carmen San Diego and that is because the manual was huge and giving lots of tips.

Have anyone seen the "Angry Video Game Nerd" ? There's an episode he talks exactly about his. He's playing Dick Tracy on the NES and goes about how boring it is to make notes.
If you've not seen it, you should, it's awesome.

But to be on the side that never say never, I'd use a note system if it were already in the game, like in Professor Layton games or the Zelda games for the DS.
802  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anyone planning to pick up Atelier Rorona? on: September 30, 2010, 12:08:48 PM
I was just thinking again of getting the game and then I found out some news. Nothing game breaking but makes me wonder why companies would even do this. They changed the age of Rorona and Cordelia from 14 to 17 and 13 to 16, respectively.

They're still minors and still look like 14 and 13 so what's the point ?

I'm still quite interested in picking it up but I'm not sure I won't to fork US$60 for it. Maybe when there's a price drop.
803  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of the Abyss 3DS on: September 29, 2010, 08:24:06 PM
Something new would have been nice, instead of another port, which the 3DS seems to be full of.

I thought the same, the 3DS is becoming the system of the ports already. Maybe in its first quarter it'll beat the psp in ports.
804  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Coming soon Ds rpg's on: September 25, 2010, 05:49:56 PM
Me too, even though I wasn't looking forward to them I know some people are. I really don't understand SE sometimes, Atlus and Nippon Ichi localize a lot of risky games on the DS and they are far from being as big as SquareEnix, so why won't they take the chances ? Even Sega releases some, risky games themselves.

If those companies, especially with DS games which localizing could most of the time mean "put an english subtitle", would do that even in the jap version of the game I'm sure people would import them and they wouldn't even have the trouble of localizing it here.

Let's be honest, some games are so obscure that hardly anyone that is not looking specifically for that game will buy it, they'd save money on advertising, printing more copies, etc.

Out of those game I'm only looking forward to 4 guardians of light and maybe Golden Sun which I've hear a lot of praise but never played as I didn't have a GBA back them.
Saga I play one of them on psx (if it's the same thing I'm thinking) but didn't enjoy it much. Not bad but I don't know ...
805  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Fav/Least Fav Video Game "Parts" on: September 24, 2010, 11:47:26 AM
I hate that fucking sewer section in Xenogears.

If I didn't use a FAQ back then I am sure I would've dropped the game at this point.

One that I love I believe the most is in FFVII (spoiler everyone knoes) Aeris dies and you have to fight J.E.N.O.V.A. everything about it just makes mellow and sad.

Later I'll think of others. Things to hate are not hard to come by.
806  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The 3rd Birthday on: September 23, 2010, 10:56:27 PM
Anyone gonna play Parasite Eve I and II a few weeks before The 3rd Birthday's Release?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll go up on PSN at some point. I love the first one, but not the second's controls.

The first is not only one of my favorites PS1 games and even all time favorite games but the second ... I've tried playing it so many times and each time it seems worse. Thank heavens for youtube so if I want to experience a bad game for something else than gameplay we can just watch the a playthrough of a kind soul.

I really don't understand how they can get from a really original game to a cheap half assed copy of Resident Evil. I can't blame them because Resident Evil is also one of my favorites franchises to this date as I've beaten them all and it does sell really good, even back in the psx days, so it leaning towards it sounded understandable, but it turned out to be so bad it's not even funny.

I almost bought a copy of PE1 japanese so I could play on my PS3 (jap) even having a normal copy and a ps2 but PE2, I wouldn't want even for free. For what I heard the only really good thing about it is the story (what I expected from Squaresoft) but everything else is really bad.

Bottom line, if they come to PSN do yourself a favor, buy the first but neglect the second.
807  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Platinum Games & Sega extend their publishing deal. on: September 23, 2010, 09:13:47 AM
Now the hinted "sequel to Bayonetta" may have even more hopes of becoming true.
Aside from Infinite Space I'm loving all their games.
808  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The 3rd Birthday on: September 23, 2010, 08:51:16 AM

Tentacles? Haha. The game looks good though.

Tentacles, can't go wrong with them in Japan lol !

I'm so excited about his game I don't think I'll wait for it to come here, I'll just buy the Jap version and once again put my not so good Japanese to the test.
Oh, about the trailer, that part where she's exploding stuff with her spell (mitochondria), I wonder if the stages are all big and open like that ?

And for those that try to see, the old link is dead, here's a new one, check it before SquareEnix removes it again.
809  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: September 22, 2010, 09:44:49 PM
If you have the chance to use the japanese voices, do it because they're great ! Oh, and Fuuka's english voice actress will make your ears bleed.
810  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anyone planning to pick up Atelier Rorona? on: September 22, 2010, 09:42:22 PM
I was somewhat interested in this game until I saw some video from Totori no Atelier which look so much better and I started thinking that if I am to get the "same" game, I'll get the prettier one.
If this comes at a reasonable price I might rethink, but considering the competition by this end of year I don't think I'll pick it up soon. Little Big Planet 2 has a lot of my attention.
