826  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Odin Sphere getting HD Ports on: September 19, 2010, 12:26:00 PM
I loved Odin Sphere right up until I couldn't get any further. Crap that game was hard. For me. I really wasn't that good at it.
Same here; I stopped at the second to last boss in the final book as I just couldn't do it. I wasn't that good at it either. I wonder if you will be able to import PS2 saves?

I don't think you guys were bad because if so that makes us 3.
I was doing pretty good until some obscenely hard bosses so I had to use my gameshark. I thought the stories were just too good to miss.
Those that kept turning you into a frog and all, they make Demon's Souls look easy.

Good for you then that it does have both languages but that makes me wonder: why doesn't SquareEnix doesn't do this from scratch ? It's not like it's cheaper to buy a version that it's not in your region and in Japan they do charge a lot more for the new games.
The that do complain about some voice acting, like myself, could have it original and the ones that don't mind get their dub, everybody happy and more money in their pockets.

These times most companies are fully aware a lot of fans wants the option to have both audios and even if the media has some limitations of space, as the 360, Wii or PSP they could at least give it as a free DLC. On the PSP it could be even better, they could release 2 versions on PSN, one with american dub other with original japanese voices. Depending of the characters one or two bad actors can ruin the mood of the game.

But that is past. What I'd really like to see is an asian version like the one you have for Versus XIII. Dual audio and selectable subtitles.

Ok, so I managed to get the Hong Kong (Chinese) version of FFXIII with the Japanese voices. I did a "New Game." One interesting thing that I noticed was that even though the manual says "O" is confirm, when I run the game "X" is confirm.

It does. My PS3 is japanese and all the game I own with only one exception confirms with X, probably because the port decide to make it. Every other game works like yours but opposite.
Weird thing is, when I was playing Red Dead Redemption, sometimes the GAME told me to press X to confirm but it was actually O. Now that was confusing in the beginning.

Is the Hong Kong edition supposed to have subtitles for both languages ? Because if I'm not mistaken it has only japanese.
One thing I've did to change the langue of some games that you know have more than one but don't have the option is to change the language of your PS3.

A little rant, but why they do it in the first place, right ? If the language is there why not give us teh option to change it in the first place ? As if putting one additional line in the options menu is gonna take millions of dollars and time. Instead I have to get out of the game and change my system.

Something about a little girl named Eggnog running around makes me giggle. (til she hit's 12, then you frown and wonder)

Japanese are notorious for this, no?
Bleach's main character is named (I like to put a Pimp-twist to it and say it in a Barry White tone) Strawbeeerry.  Venus and Braves had the leads Blood, Vivid and Ariah.  Xenoblade has Shulk and Florung (say that ten times fast).  And I'm pretty sure our next heavy-hitting JRPG will have a lead idiot named Chair or some sort of appliance.

I don't want to sound rude, so don't take it personal but Ichigo (苺) is not only strawberry but in the case of the main characters, while it does sound the same as strawberry it has different meaning as it is written with different kanji (一護) the first means ONE the other means PROTECT, SAFEGUARD, so, the one who protects.

I'm not trying to be bitching about it, but even though it may sound weird for us (the average non japanese speaker, or even a begginer) it usually has more then meets the eye, or in this case, the ear :)

Especially those mangakas (creators, writers, etc) they try to give the character a name that appeals to the idea they have. Another fine example is the main character from Death note, Yagami Light, especially his last name, and they mention it A LOT in the anime. 夜神 the first kanji, means NIGHT and the means GOD. You put them together and you have a badass name or at least a badass meaning for your name.

Even regular people sometimes have names like this, they just change the reading of the kanjis to something more usual a thing that in manga, anime etc you don't have to, or sometimes don't even want to, because you want the fans to make note of it.

This have happened to me quite sometimes, but as my vocabulary of japanese grew you see those nuances and it all makes sense.

The dialogue in KOTOR 1 is very good, party members and NPCs alike. Especially HK-47 which for me has the best lines in any RPG.
831  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito XIII Footage on: September 17, 2010, 08:25:53 AM
The videos were removed by SquareEnix. Every other video from TGS is available but these. What are they so afraid of ?

Found another link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RMeexyDSCg

Looks great ! Especially the fight with behemoth.

Maybe some people think of the Chie and Yukiko thing because Chie is a bit of a tomboy girl and since they are close friends well, we start imagining things.

Now we're all talking about love partners in Persona 4, one thing that made me sad was that we couldn't have a "thing" with the Nurse. She was so cool and a lot of times she was clearly teasing you.
Both her and Tanaka (the Devil social links) are probably my favorite links of the games.
833  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Valkyria Chronicles 3 Confirmed for The PSP on: September 16, 2010, 02:46:24 PM
I liked how you could call your partner to go along with you while you're controlling another character. It allows for a more strategic approach.
If we can have a Valkyria on our team the whole time I will stop complaining about the fact that it is on PSP and just be happy it exists.
834  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ninokuni (Ghibli + Level 5 RPG) going PS3 on: September 16, 2010, 02:55:13 AM
There are four new videos available in Tokyo Game Show.
The game sure looks charming. It kinda makes we feel bad Dragon Quest X is going on the Wii because it could look like this or even better on the PS3.

I hope we get a japanese model with the game to encourage us while we play it lol !

I also think he wasn't gay, if anyone Naoto was the one dressing like the opposite sex.

I don't know if I would want the game more controversial, as that would lead to even more ignorant hate speeches, acts of violence, censorship and hysteria from people who would rather get upset about something than truly listen to what it is trying to say.
It's just a nit-pick about word choice, the article itself was good. Though Kanji totally wasn't gay, even if people think he is. Just sayin'.

From what I got, they already are controversial, but thankfully to some level, they are not as high profiled as say, Modern Warfare or GTA so those censorship bastards don't give it much attention. Reading the article makes me want to go back to Nocturne and start over Persona 2.
836  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: September 16, 2010, 12:58:20 AM
Once I read it I simply felt like I HAD TO share this with you guys.
It's an article titled Megaten Games Should Be More Controversial Than They Are from Vgchartz.

To put it simply it's a must read for anyone who have played a SMT game. It points the controversial points the games have (it does have a few spoilers but nothing major as far as I know), why it's so intelligent and more.
I think it's one of the best video game related articles I've read in a long time.

837  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Odin Sphere getting HD Ports on: September 15, 2010, 11:50:49 PM
While I truly love japanese stuff, settings and all I have to give an edge to Odin Sphere, at least in terms of story. Even though Muramasa has a better fighting system and all, Odin Sphere managed to keep me hooked more.
Even though I love them both I don't think I'll be buying Odin Sphere, as I have it for PS2 and I'm only one story away from beating all. Plus this game gets really hard so a cheating device comes handy :)
838  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Valkyria Chronicles 3 Confirmed for The PSP on: September 15, 2010, 05:11:33 PM
I'm in the NO wagon. Even though the game on PSP is not that bad, I really wanted it on the PS3. VP1 is so much better.
And come on, SEGA is refusing to rehash the same game ? As if no one does that and people still buy it and they say it as if the first one wasn't great in the first place. They just needed to put a new story and new stages and we'd all buy it with smiles on our faces.
839  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: I just discovered a JRPG I'd never heard of... on: September 12, 2010, 01:46:02 PM
I started playing it but I had such a big backlog at the time that it ended up being swallowed by other games. Seemed interesting though.

Same thing. Played very little of it, and I probably was expecting a little more of it, maybe another Disgaea. If I'm not mistaken I was playing Odin Sphere back then, so this got to the side.

About the title of the thread, it seems like there's always an RPG I've never heard about. Just these past couple days I heard of this game called Recettear, which has just been localized and it seems fun, it's geared toward item creation, so it's kind of hit or miss. But the voice acting has been removed because the localizing company couldn't pay for the rights to the voices .... (Yeah, as weird as it sounds) but at least there's a demo, so I'll give it a shot in the future.
840  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Bastion. on: September 10, 2010, 02:39:33 AM
I like the art style but the narration should stop at some point. It actually reminds me of that episode of Family Guy where Peter hires a guy to narrate everything he does in a singing voice.

Another con for me is this linear dungeon hack and slash because hack and slashing gets old quickly, so if there's nothing else to do, well, the fun goes away quickly.
