886  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Radiant Historia on: July 28, 2010, 07:49:07 PM
I think the name chosen to be a little weird. I'll try to explain why, Story has the same meaning as Historia (in portuguese at least it means the same thing).
I'm not complaining on the meaning of the title, since it probably means almost the same as the former, but giving a name to something with two words of different languages, especially when the pronunciation of the vowels are pretty different makes it sound really strange.

Sure I'm nit picking on it but still. Well, I won't stop me from giving it a chance, but not only in this thread but overall I've heard so many mixed opinions on Radiata Stories that I'll wait to see more.

Square could make a new Vagrant Story in a Demon's Souls style. Think about it, Vagrant Story was a mostly a dungeon crawler, only it had a good (but complicated) story, a great villain and a mixed up combat system.

We could use numerous weapons, from swords to spears and magic, much like in Demon's Souls. Most of the game hard a darker feel, probably because most of it happened in dungeons, as DS.

If only Vagrant Story was a little easier to navigate ... I made to the final dungeon (using a FAQ because otherwise I'd already be lost since that crazy forest) but for the life of me I couldn't find the way to the last boss.

Very nice! I at least hope that this time Bandai Namco publishes them here. I'd like to know what they're scared of, I mean Atlus publishes a lot of games and much sell less than any Tales.
Let's hope Graces looks at least as good as Vesperia since it's a port of a Wii game.
Now I wonder if they're going to re-do evrything, from characters models, towns, spells effects, etc wouldn't it be easier to make a new game ? Well, at least they already have voice acting, soundtrack and plot (and as a bonus for me, the theme song is performed by BoA).

Star Ocean 3 sold over a million, if I were to guess I think no "Tales of" ever came close but I agree with you on Legend of Dragoon.
Legend of Dragoon was a really good game but it took a while to get good and if my memory is well enough the last Cd was way more difficult than the rest of the game, not Nocturne hard but way more than what you're used to. I remember I took a while to pass a certain boss near the end which made me take quite a while to beat it.

I think most RPGs that get a release window near another well know of at least expected RPG becomes unappreciated eventually. Like Shadow Hearts (release close to Final Fantasy X), Tales of Graces in Japan (released near FFXIII). I do lack more examples to my little theory but I don't know why but I get the impression this happens quite a lot.

Just made my day!
I hope this game comes big so they revive the franchise for good! Maybe next they'll bring Vagrant Story!

edit
I just went in the site to see other stuff about the game and when the opening music remade played I felt like a child all over again. The first one is so good and I hope this one will be so much better!

I do understand a lot of people liked it because it is hard but somehow I feel pushed away because of that. I beat the 1st boss and only died once, but I could already feel the difficulty of the game (plus I've seen lots of videos of gameplay). In the end I don't feel like punishing myself so much with this difficulty, and bear in mind I did beat Ninja Gaiden 1 and Devil May Cry 3, some pretty tough games but I don't know, I probably want a rest from these really hard games for a while, at least give me a checkpoint :)

If in Demon's Souls 2 we have an "easy newb mode" where we can have a few checkpoints, at least 1 in the middle of the stage and another before the boss you can count me in.
I think this would definitively increase sales and for the sake of challenge, don't give trophies for those who beat of "puppy mode". Sure I liked trophies but I'd much rather have a good time with a game without being frustrated every now and then and have no trophies at all.

Im exited too, ive only played the second game but i think it was awesome maybe because i like resident evil too.

Im glad they revived this

Funny thing you mentioned this. I a big fan of Resident Evil, I've finished all the numbered ones and code veronica and yet somehow I hated Parasite Eve 2 style that tries to be like Resident Evil but it's not quite there. I think PE2 turned out to be even more clunky than RE 1, 2 and 3.
That makes me sad as I've heard there's a great story there hidden beneath some bad gameplay. At least now the game looks like RE4, in my opinion the best.

I was trying to give PE2 a second chance but I think I'll just watch it on youtube and be happy with it.

I liked how the graphics seem overall improved but the characters still look a little weird.
I heard the story of the first one is good which made me interested in it but the slow combat and some other things made me wait a little for it, just to find out that in WK2 we'd have one for free!
Now I can surely wait!

I also found the first 2 sectors easy but the 3rd is not only hard but confusing as hell. Sector four makes it even worse, so I just felt like giving up on it.

Here's a cam of the whole E3 trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YieoURCBSXE

Oh I'm gonna love this.

Thank you, now you made this my most anticipated game ever!
I loved Parasite Eve 1 but hated 2 so much I couldn't even play 2 hours of it but now, I thinking of giving it a go, probably with cheats.
896  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: July 17, 2010, 11:28:03 PM
Now i'm with 85 hours. All characters at level 300 and a little bit further away from finishing the Arena. Honestly, I think I'll be taking a break on the Arena for a while and finish Neverland once and for all. It was a pain but at least now the battles are waaay easier. Just by being able to fully scratch an enemy is great, it makes thing not only easier but faster too.

EDIT:
Finally beat it, only one trophy away from Platinum. This I can say was a game that was worth every penny I paid. I just though the story to be confusing, not that it doesn't happen a lot in JRPGs but still way too obscure but even so, the characters are good so it's all right.

On a side note, the last boss was a breeze. I was so power leveled because of Neverland that he never had a chance but I think it's better this way, because in previous Tri-Ace games I've been beaten to death in the last bosses after going through the game with almost no problem.
Star Ocean 3: Killed last boss using all items accumulated throughout the game and only one character alive, after trying about 5 times
Valkyrie Profile 1: Died about 5 times as well, but not as hard as SO3
Valkyrie Profile 2: By far the hardest last boss I've ever fought. It took me about 10 tries and I remember my neighbor calling me to play Pro Evolution Soccer all night long and I said I'd only play when I killed that boss.
897  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Disgaea on PS3 on: July 17, 2010, 11:18:28 PM
I have Disgaea 3 here a friend of mine lent it to me but still haven't started. I played like an hour and a half on my cousin's PS3 (back when I didn't had one).
I can't explain to myself why I haven't played it yet, I've beaten Disgaea 1 twice and Disgaea 2, all of them non-stop.

What I'm really looking forward to see is a more polished game. I mean, no complains but Disgaea 3 looked the same as 1 and 2 but since it was the beginning of the PS3 we can let it go but now they could at least try harder. If we look at the step further Atelier Totori took in their character designs I expect Nippon Ichi to at least try to catch up. I mean Gust is like Nippon Ichi, they're far from big like Square Enix but I beleive they can do more when they want.

Yes, this game was the reason why I bought PSP. You will not forget the times when you played this game.

I was about to post the exact same thing, this game was one of the reasons I bought a PSP. I can't help it, I'm just a sucker for SRPGs.
899  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Quest IX on: July 17, 2010, 11:28:18 AM
Honestly, I hated the DQ series, found them dated, repetitive, and boring. The only DQ games that I've played and never finished were DQVII, DQVIII, DQII and I for the GB and DQV.

Buuut... After playing DQIX, I'm now looking forward to DQX... But I don't have a Wii so I'll be looking forward to Ninokuni, which is the closest thing to DQ. :P

Also, will be playing DQV after DQIX.

I'm glad to hear this, because I feel the same as you. I finished DQV and VIII and while in some part of them I did enjoy them, in at least the other half I thought it was a drag. I've said to myself that DQIX may be my last take on the Dragon Quest series but seeing that you feel like me towards the series and yet you're liking IX seems like a light of hope to me.
I'm yet to start it, as I'm alternating between Resonance of Fate and Dragon Age.
900  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: July 17, 2010, 10:54:12 AM
I was just a little higher leveled than you before I decided to do everything in the Arena, I was about lvl 90.
I went to kill the 2 bosses before the final one, to get the black hexes for Neverland, they were a breeze. Of course I was not supposed to be so much high leveled, Leeane was lvl 300 and the rest not too far away, so you can guess how much abuse I can take before I have to start worrying about damage.

I'm halfway through completing the Arena and I have to say it again, taking forever but at least it helps to getting the trophy for killing 3000 enemies and destroying 3000 body parts. After all this time in the Arena, I just hope Neverland to be much easier now.
