Well, the reviews are all over the place.  Guessing this is going to be the most divisive game of the year.

I wouldn't argue about this being an improvement over 4 and 5 in terms of control, Agent D.  The characters are much more responsive when compared to the shambling tank messes of the previous games.  That said, they slide around the environment like Agent 47 in Hitman 2, and it feels terrible when trying to avoid zombies on the ground.  I'm not sure how they managed it, but RE4 still has the best shooting mechanics in the series.  RE6 just feels too slippery when you consider the precise shots necessary to pinpoint weapons, legs, etc.  As for the melee stuff, I just can't seem to figure the whole thing out.  I end up attacking too short or running straight into the enemy and missing my chance to do some serious damage.  It wouldn't bother me if it was a compliment to the shooting, but you have to use the melee mechanics otherwise you run out of ammo in about thirty seconds.  I'm glad they're using a stamina bar to keep you from spamming those attacks, but it still feels awkward and counter intuitive to me.

Dead Space 2 just plays better, and Isaac feels far more responsive than any of the cast in RE6.  I'd rather hold a trigger to run rather than holding X and potentially skipping into cover, or accidentally quick turning, or maybe leaping over a box.

Seriously, go back and look at RE4.  The game still looks good.  It's one of the best looking games of last console generation.  RE6 looks dark, drab and boring by comparison.  Play through the night section of the village (rain and all) and then the RE6 demo again.  RE4 also runs at a stable framerate, something that seven years worth of innovation at Capcom seems to have missed.

Don't you love how you can't shoot the zombies on the ground until they magically come back to life?  That's next gen, people!  What about the fact that Leon can't move a fucking lawn chair that's been cemented to the ground.

Alright, I'm very opinionated after playing the RE6 demo.  Here's some background:

-I love Resident Evil
-I love, love, love RE4
-I have no problem with the series moving away from horror, though I would still prefer to see a return to the series' roots
-RE5 was like RE4 but without any original ideas and the co-op actually took away from the entire experience

Okay.  I think RE6 (based on the demo, admittedly) is an absolute disaster.  The controls are somewhat improved over RE5 (thank God I can move and shoot now), but the QTEs feel forced, the melee attacks are completely unreliable and yet critical to the gameplay, the shooting controls are terribly inaccurate (though you can apparently improve your aiming ability with skill points) and having X do just about everything in the game creates some awkward moments where I try to run but end up quick turning.  Why not just give us Dead Space style controls and be done with it?  And what the hell is up with the cover mechanic?  Is it that hard to ripoff Gears of War?

Then there's the graphics.  I swear, this game looks worse than RE4 on the GC.  Not only are the graphics so dark you can't see anything unless you set your gamma setting to max, but the zombies all look like shit with awful textures and hideous modeling.  Then there's the game's atrocious framerate, which chugs along like the PS3 is trying to render Crysis on max settings.

I could live with all of that, but the game is just not fun.  The Leon sections shows the most promise with some actual sense of place, immersion and suspense, but Chris and Jake just feel like shit Call of Duty knockoffs with piss poor controls.  I'm honestly mystified with how bad this game plays considering almost all of Capcom is working on this title.  Dead Space 2 is more fun, looks better, and plays better than RE6.  Every video for DS3 has me more excited, and it looks like they are trying to create a solid singleplayer experience to compliment the co-op campaign (and hopefully they pull it off *fingers crossed).

I was all ready for RE6, but playing the game forced it all the way to the back of my mind and out the other side.  No clue what Capcom thinks they're doing, but I won't be along for this ride.

I really wasn't trying to dismiss it (John said it was hipster Diablo).  I just think T2 is getting a lot of positive feedback because of the outrage over D3.  I said over and over again that it could very well be a good game (I doubt the original Diablo team would screw something up that bad).

We made it to Episode 50.  Let us know what you think!
322  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Borderlands 2 on: September 18, 2012, 08:51:59 AM
I need to stop trying to play Borderlands like a single player game.  I played 2 for about an hour last night and was, just like the first game, bored to tears.  I know that this is meant to be a co-op game, but sometimes I like to play by myself.  Guess I'll have to rectify my antisocial habits on this one.
323  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age Three (3) on: September 17, 2012, 04:10:30 PM
We've talked about this on the podcast a few times, actually.  John tends to read the dialogue rather than watch the cutscene.  You would be shocked how much this can cut down on the playtime.  It also depends on how much you like to explore.  I love to search out every nook and cranny in a dungeon, meaning I get a longer playtime than most in that area.

Also, thanks for pointing out the "Skip the Fade" mod.  That was a cool experience the first time, but I hated going through it again and again.

Damn, now I want to play Origins again.  What a great game!  Still, I can't stand the Mage's Circle section.  I wish we could just take that part of the game out!!

If the leaks are true (as it appears) then this could be really cool.  Fingers crossed!

Watching all of these again made me pick up Downpour on Amazon.  I'm sure we'll hear their thoughts on this in due time.

Added everyone that asked and put some politics upgrades on the queue.
328  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Guild Wars 2 Server Selection on: September 04, 2012, 11:27:05 PM
I'll add them tomorrow.  Feel free to give some input as to what we want to upgrade.

And, good lord, I saw that you hit 80 and wanted to kill myself.  That's dedication!

Added a bunch of people.  Let me know if I missed anyone.
330  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Guild Wars 2 Server Selection on: August 25, 2012, 03:20:00 PM
I started a guild called Emerald Alliance.  I'll add you guys next time I'm online.

My id is PaleRobbie.7841

It's kind of a pain to add people to the guild.  Not sure if you need the id or the character name.
