It's like star ocean and Valkyrie profile had a baby. Can't wait

Dear GFluegel, if you're in need of any more artists, I can draw (in true RPG-style response) anything I set my mind to. T__T

But seriously, I came in expecting (sorry to say) another 'drab and whatever' RPG-maker looking title...but holy smokes, I was completely and happily mistaken.  Gorgeous 2D, fast-looking combat, and unique characters to boot.  Keep up the good work, this is def on the radar.

I second this sentiment, love the way this game is developing! I'm an artist without a cause (yet) and would be willing to lend my services if you find the need for an extra hand.

No love for Valkyrie Profile? Was hoping for a new entry, but I'll take another star ocean. Have 4 but still haven't played it since i got my ps3 version. Couldn't stand the voice acting on the 360 version.

And I love that the developer is bucking the trend and saying "no DLC, the game will be 100% complete right out of the box."  You don't see that very often these days. I like the idea of the game being the full monty right out of the box.

I concur,  the idea of leaving code in the game with the intent to charge for its access at another date is ludicrous.  What I really like from dlc is if it's planned and developed after the game is released because they built a complete game first then made extra content afterward.

So a ship trading system sounds pretty intuitive for streetpass and reminds me of suikoden 3's selling of spices and misc items for profit. Although they are different, it still brings out that merchant vibe that I really enjoyed in Suikoden 3.

My next choice would probably be Meurs because his ancestors could communicate with the ancients and they probably harbor secrets in the game's world.

That's exactly why I'm picking him as my last playthrough. I feel like he is going to reveal most of the main story arc that the developers intended to put out

So, who are people thinking of making their main character and who'll be his/her companions?

I think my first playthrough will be the cliche amnesiac character looking for her memories (Bianca) as my lead. Followed by Owen and Filmia. I'm hoping Bianca will be support based, Owen will be the tank and Filmia will be crit based to make them balanced.

Depending on their classes one could potentially make an all female party. Bianca with Garnet (tank) and Eloise (mage).

It's really hard to decide without having the game in hand to view all of their attributes.
8  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XV, This is a fantasy based on reality. on: November 05, 2014, 09:27:24 AM
Then I stand corrected the videos just didn't do it justice then cause from the looks of them you had auto attack, one spell, a signature class move and dodge.Hopefully FF 15 is also more than meets the eye I can't help but worry cause Square-Enix has completely deceived me before with their flashy CGs and making things look more complex than they actually were.

You also need to understand that this is a technical demo. They are testing the world environment's lighting system,  physics engine (mind blowing wind cycles), and how much "world" can be loaded whilst walking around in real time rendering. The end game can potentially be filled with enemies and npcs.

When watching the new tech demo I get a huge xenoblade vibe and I mean that in a good way! Pretty excited to see the playable demo with type-0.
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ys (IV) Memories of Celceta on: December 08, 2013, 11:29:36 PM

Left field recommendation: If you liked Ys 1 and 2, and want to see what Celceta's origins were, Dawn of Ys is great, and also tends to be ridiculously cheap for a PC Engine game (12-15 dollar range).

If you dont feel like playing the game, I think just listening to the soundtrack will put you in the right mindset for Ys:MoC. The music is very well translated to a modern soundtrack and still has that magical 90's synth vibe.

Got the silver edition, packaging reminds me of the old Lunar Working Designs packaging. Top quality and the game is fantastic. The 3 cd collection is cool but a lot of the tracks are the versions I dont like. Disc 2 is the best as it has mostly Ys IV and Memories of Celceta tracks. Its nice to hear the Dawn of Ys tracks right next to their remastered versions.

@Monsoon, the weapons change there appearance.

ALSO all Ys titles on PSN and Steam are on sale for 50% off! I picked up Ys Oath in Felghana and Chronicles for 15 bucks!

I tried Wanderers from Ys YEARS ago on the SNES and thought it was terrible.  Earlier this year I started Oath in Felghana and really liked it, so much so that I bought Ys Seven and Ys Origin.  I (barely) started those but liked them as well.  I *finally* finished Oath in Felghana this weekend, and I'm around the middle of the Chronicles+ version of Ys I.  I've also put about 12-15 hours into Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga.

Question: does character appearance or displayed weapon change at all in Ys Seven or Memories of Celceta?  I really liked completing item sets in Felghana and getting the new looks for Adol.  Anything like that in the two most recent games?

In Ys Seven he does not change appearance except for one scene in an arena fight, but other than that he has the same skin the entire game. His shield and sword change but not the armor. Im not too sure about MoC because I try to avoid reading too much into the games I am anticipating.

I am determined not to continue with the game's story until I've gotten 100 seconds on Cuccoo Dodging. Got to love mini-games that ramp difficulty up from Beginner > Easy > Intermediate > F$%# YOU!!

My record so far is about 68 seconds.

301 seconds...those transitions are a bitch. And yeah, you get 300 rupees for that time. 100 seconds = 100 rupees. Wait till you get the dark world mini game. I CANNOT get a high score for that one!

Anyone else surprised by how....I dunno, melodic the dungeon themes are this time around?  Usually they're more just subtle beats and noises.  The Desert Palace was a surprise too.

Dude the music is phenomenal in this game! There are THREE different versions of the Hyrule overworld, one when you start the game, one when you start the main quest and another one after you get the master sword.

My opinions of the game so far almost all positive, the only real negative I can say is that I wish I had never played A Link to the Past. I say that because to some minute way I have played this game already. Nostalgia is a great thing but when I know where to go for potions even before I open the plastic of the case then its essentially a recap of an older game. BUT the way they made this game is painstakingly gorgeous! The differences from A Link Between Worlds and A Link to the Past enough to merit its own title. I just wish it didnt flow so closely to ALTTP.

The dungeons are smartly constructed as always, the music has caught me by surprise. The quality of music and sound effects are top notch and sometimes I will let the track loop a couple of times while im in a new dungeon before I start. The 60 fps is a HUGE welcome that makes the experience of playing link in a handheld enjoyable. I wasnt too fond of the past DS titles but this is probably my favorite Zelda to date.

I reserved the special edition yesterday.  I'm not getting a Vita until next year.  This is an "investment" for a game I'll eventually play.  I have a problem.

...six months ago, I owned zero Ys games.  In a few days I will buy my eighth.  Yup, new obsession.

Good obsession to have for a franchise such as Ys. Have you played through any of them yet and which do you prefer? I really like Oath in Felghana as well as its original iterations on Snes/PC-Engine.

Nov 7th! 2 days after my BDay!
You're like six days late, kiddo.

I meant Feb 7th is 2 days after my birthday. And in response to the 'kiddo' part, is my excitement an indication of my age? Simple typo.
