BOTH games are notorious for not telling you were you need to go, and before anyone tells me that I'm a gamer that needs his hand held you are wrong. Some of the hints in Secret of Mana were only told ONCE and when you talked to that NPC again they would say random nonsense. Sage Joch was a dick!
I cant pick one over the other because they are from two different generations. If Secret of Mana came out the same time Kingdom Hearts did, then we would be closer to being able to compare the two. If you compare Dawn of Mana to Kingdom Hearts, hands down Kingdom Hearts wins. Also Secret of Mana is not a complete game, they were originally developing it for the Snes CD expansion but had to cut a lot of material because they had to fit it on the cartridge instead. This is also why the quality of the music is much better than most Snes games at the time.

You can abuse the hell out of the combat system on this game with all the different variants of skills to be . I beat the game with everyone dead except zidane in berserk with auto revive so I want even holding the controller. Great game though, sakaguchi really nailed the fantasy in this game

If I had a Vita, I'd definitely pick this up. It looks pretty awesome.
How close is this to, say, Monster Hunter?
It's pretty close. Same overall structure. Faster-paced combat, more customization, lighter ambiance. I was watching a youtube clip and MH is a pretty close resemblance as far as quest organization and execution, but the combat looks way more like a video game than a semi attempt at a simulation. I say that due to the fact that this game knows its a video game and is not shamed to show it with aerial combat and super combos. I believe that Monster Hunter tries to be a simulation in a fantasy world with the stamina meter and having to cook food and the awkward controls to factor in weight of the weapons. RO looks more like King of Dragons with Monster Hunter quest structure.

Mass Effect 1...I've beat that game at least 13 times. Twice on the PC, all the achievement finishes for two separate xbox live profiles which is like eight each, and 3 more for different choice lines for ME2. And I've only beat ME2 four times and ME3 once...depending on the extended cut of ME3 I will play it more.
Chrono Trigger/Cross, Final Fantasy 9, Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga, Radiant Historia and Zelda (all) are on my list of multiple finishes. Putting them on a list makes me want to revisit more of them but there are just too many good games right now that going back is almost a waste of time.

The combat reminds me of Mass Effect adaptation to a hack n slash. I think this is what Dragon Age 2's combat system should have been like.
I am loving this game so far, it is very reserved in the beginning playing off like a normal medievil lore with the castle siege and then they throw you into a dark fantasy dream! The voice 'acting' is amazing, but the sound quality is very weird like they are not in the environment that is shown. It sounds like they are always inside. Not a big issue.

Heads up to any looking for a classic controller pro, I picked one up for 10 bucks at best buy. It was behind the register and it was brand new with dust all over it. The website says 20 but maybe you can find one on clearance.

So about the Gamestop preorder artbook. Does that come inside the game case or does it come separately?
It comes separately and its an odd size. Its not the same size as a DVD case but the paper is pretty high quality.

I dont know why, but Mario RPG pops in my head as 100%. Its not even my favorite game but they played it 'SUPER' safe and made a game that is absolutely satisfactory. They made a polished RPG that I really dont have any complaints about.
