First two runs on E-4: A ship gets hit to red by the subs on node C, have to head back.  Not off to a good start there.

But then I kept at it and scored two boss kills in a row on the following two runs without really changing anything.  Just got unlucky I guess?  Don't see many people bitching about the subs on E-4, and they're usually quick to bitch about such things.

If you can actually make it to her I felt the E-4 boss was actually easier than E-3's.  Sure she's got a ton of HP but those installation types are really vulnerable to sanshikis.  Boosts your damage in a big way.  Perhaps even more importantly, her escort ships feel a lot weaker than the other bosses we've had to fight so far.  My second fleet mopped them up with their torpedoes on both occasions which means the first fleet directed 100% of their shelling at the boss.  And if for some reason that still couldn't kill her there's still the night round.

Oh, and she dropped Hayashimo the second time.  One rare destroyer drop out of the way.

Still, 10 boss kills required for E-4.  That's a lot more than I've seen in any previous event.  They're really dragging this one out...

I've done 6 runs on E-4 now.  One more boss kill and one more crit'ed by the subs so I'm still sitting at a 50% chance of making it through the sub node.  I guess things could be a lot worse that 50% but it's still frustrating.  Especially since it's pretty much clear sailing so long as I made it through that node.

Nice to see the Japanese think E1 @ E2 is  BS. 1 or 2 kills from clear. Screen decided to freeze when loli hulk smashed Fubuki so I dont know if damage to her counted.

Finally taking a break from CVL grinding (heh) to do MI.  Man E-3 is easy.  Well, it's all about setup, really.  I'm using 8 Reppus and a Reppu kai which gives me air superiority on every node, and since the pre-boss nodes are entirely air battles they only scratch me at worst.  The boss itself isn't very hard to sink either.  But I guess if you don't have that many Reppus it might be tougher.

I have found myself suddenly taking a wrong turn before the boss occasionally, which is odd since it seems like another LoS requirement.  Even with the exact same ships and the exact same equipment I will sometimes make it to the boss and sometimes not.  My only guess is that my recon planes are getting shot down (I did put them in the smallest slots) which can affect LoS.  But I have a ton of LoS equipment so I didn't think I would be that borderline...

And even if the map isn't very hard, it is expensive to deploy two fleets like that.  Plus it eats so much bauxite with the number of planes in the sky.

man...either the devs didn't properly tune E1  and E2 or they went full on sadist  meter then broke the knob on E6. I wonder What do the non Insane Japanese think of the event E1 and E2

I think it's 2x plane LoS + non-plane equipment LoS + sqrt(base LoS).  Basically, you want to emphasize planes.  Seaplanes on cruisers and the like and Saiun for carriers.  Probably only one seaplane per cruisr because you still want them to double attack and you need sanshikis for the boss.  DDs should get the type 33 radars since they can't equip planes.

Also, a lot of high-level attack planes like the Egusa Suisei and Tomonaga Tenzen get significant LoS bonuses too if you have them.  And even Ryuusei kai gets a little.
I don't got any of the those high level planes, just going to have to hope I have enough. I do have 4 Ryuuisei Kai. Thanks for the help.

yeah I saw that on the unofficial forums, contemplating how much I want to spend on that offer. Hey Kevadu, how does LoS  2-5 equipment formula work? trying to figure what I need gear wise  to meet e-2 dd route los check requirements. I have multiple Saiun, 3 type 33 radars, and a type 13 radar

it could have been a lot more, I was 1 or 2 hits from retreating all but 2 of those runs. I am thinking a lot of those people are not fully sparkling their ships. Then again a lot of luck involved as well, but the sparkling definitely helps.Though even sparkled I got hit from green to orange more then a few times.....those new dd are evil. Did not fear the bb, but those damn dd. I had no problem with the 1st or 2nd node it was the 3rd that wanted to send me back to base.

E1 done took 10 attempts fully sparkled and some serious luck. Nerves are shot, gonna take a break.  Will start on E2 later tonight maybe....

I guess you don't play using the API link then?  Even though DMM's servers are completely hammered, the game itself runs fine if you get a direct link.

Anyway, what a twist for the event.  Sure we knew that ships used in AL couldn't be used in MI (and vice versa), but then there's the whole sortie'ing two fleets simultaneously for MI thing.  And then we find out that for the final map you can't use any ships used in AL or MI.  They're really going all out...
nope, I don't play using api. Also yeah that last map sounds like it is going to be an absolute nightmare.

The issue is the very nature of the compositions.Touhou themes are piano synth based and have very poplike catchiness,with a strong memorable hook, that alone makes them a lot easier to arrange and remix into crazy stuff. I think its like comparing a marathon runner to a sprinter  KanColle due to riding its surging popularity will pull ahead, but I just don't think the KanColle music scene will be very sustainable. The Art scene however, has a chance to leave Touhou in the dust as seemingly more and more popular Pixiv artists are making KanColle artwork now, and all but stopped doing Touhou. Which in way is expected since Touhou has been going on for over 10 years now. There are only so many Reimu, Marisa, SDM/SA cast pics an artist  can do before they just get bored of it. There was just nothing popular enough to make these artist truly migrate before KanColle.

What i mean by ftp with no traps is the game does not force you to buy something to be competitive or otherwise not be gimp. Sure having only 2 docks and 100 ship suck but they are a not a necessity to progress in the game.  Also I don't mean Kancolle music is bad,  far from it. Kancolle just does  not have the type of music that can be rearranged into almost any style imaginable like Touhou. I mean Touhou themes  can and has been remixed into practically anything Touhou country  and work well.

OK, so I've talked about Kantai Collection (aka KanColle) in other threads, but now that it's officially the biggest thing in Japan I think it's about time to give this game about anthropomorphized WW2-era navel vessels its own thread.

How has this low budget free to play browser game that's mostly about time management and grinding attract such a rabid fanbase?  Even as a KanColle addict myself I have a hard time explaining it.  It's this bizarre combination of cute yet distinctive characters, military hardware (there's definitely something about this game that takes me back to when I was a kid and I used to poor over Jane's guides...), historical trivia, and gameplay that's basically a solo affair yet is constantly evolving and very much encourages discussion (if you're not participating in the wikis and stuff I feel like you're not getting the full experience).
1. The ship girls
2. The fact that it is truly a free to play no traps attached game
3. Anyone can play it as long as you has patience as rng decides everything .
4. Its really addictive! cant't  think of a major reason why, but it will consume all/most of your gaming time very quickly
5. Collecting shipgirls. its got that pokemon thing going
6. ^ All the above caused a megaton explosion of pixiv . Just checking danbooru Kancolle art work has gained over 40k images in 1 year, and that is just what people on danbooru decided to upload.
All the above plus other things I probably missing created a massively popular meme producing juggernaut.

looking at those numbers if it wasn't for Kancolle's music being its weakness it would have blew the doors off Touhou as there is not much music to arrange in Kancolle, and most of that is in game isn't exactly arrange friendly. O_o never thought I'd ever see anything  beat  Touhou and do it with practically no strong music .

Still recovering a bit from the news devs released about the big August event based operation AI/midway.
Overall panicking and leveling my CVL like mad since I am probably going to have to depend on them for event, or at least AI. The locking of ships to either AI or Midway really hurt since I only have 3 CVs, with no luck crafting, or with drops in getting more. Luckily  I have 4 CVLs in the 40s and plan to to level 2 of them, the Chitose sisters up to their final remodel.My HQ  is lv 56 and will most likely be 60 before I am through power leveling  the CVL and possibly a CL. Hoping my relatively noob HQ will save me. Still have to pray to Rngsus and craft  2-3 more reppu for the event as I have 5 at the moment.
