Oh god yes. I once read this so called epitome of VNs known as MuvLuv trilogy and thought that it was indeed the epitome of everything I think is wrong with the medium. The school setting with harem, broken girls (EVENTUALLY LIKE 10 OF THEM), tons of unending food convos, hero with "gamer" traits, that day to day narrative (from the point of view of an egotistic jerkbag with "gamer skills") and the plot twist which is actually the exact same as in like 10 other popular VNs.
Muv Luv: Extra the 1st part of the trilogy. It is a generic as they come romantic comedy that parodies Harem VN. Everything is as over the top as possible. It takes all the things you described and turns the dial up to 11. Most people do not like Extra, and are told to slug through the 2 main heroine routes to unlock Unlimited which is the 2nd part. Unlimited is basically the world building for 3rd part of the trilogy, though by the end of Unlimited if you don't like any of the characters you are most likely not going to like Alternative the final part. Just getting to Alternative, the well regarded part is A lot of time invested already.
