31  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tri-Ace bought out, to re-focus on mobile games. on: March 05, 2015, 05:41:00 PM
Their  complex battle systems with high learning curve made them niche within a niche market. People loved or hated Tri-Ace there was very little middle ground.  I liked VP and the Star Ocean games but could not stand VP2 or ROF. People were expecting ROF to be the savior after it was released a bit after FFXIII but it bombed, and quickly went to the bargin bin.

Kancolle 4: I liked the episode and Kongou class was awesome, but Jesus do they have to cram in so many game lines even in situations that do not call for it? CG continues to bad,  guess its just to be expected from now on.

King of Fighters  music, mostly jazz. Pre 2000 King of fighters soundtracks were so good

Arashi no Saxophone arranged
Big Shot arranged
Get'n Up arranged
Tsuchi o Hau Bass arranged
Blue Mary blues arranged
Dust man arranged (sinister hip hop beat. If you have a powerful sub your walls will definitely rattle from that bass)

I think ep. 3 of KanColle was my favorite yet.  Stuff is actually starting to happen.  Also,
Code:
R.I.P. Kisaragi.  Looks like this show isn't going to be completely light-hearted after all.

On another note, I really think they're overusing the CG animation.  It's even in scenes that really don't need it, it's kind of distracting...

PS
Code:
Kisaragi was the second ship Japan lost during WW2, but the first was a member of a largely obsolete destroyer class that isn't actually present in the game.  So Kisaragi was the first ship in KanColle to be sunk in the war.  And it was during the battle of Wake Island (what did you think 'W Island' was a reference to?).  So this has obviously lead some to speculate that they're actually going to be following history here.  And if they are following history...well...the body count is going to be pretty damn high.  This may turn into a very different anime than people were expecting.

I am happy with direction the anime is going but the
Code:
sinking was blatantly telegraphed, (death flags, oh my )and at the end it was like they went oops we forgot to actually do the deed... so bam! Her actual sinking was anticlimactic and lacked emotion
. The cg was also atrocious in this episode hope they didn't use up the budget in episode 1. That said, bring on the Burning Love episode!
37  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tears to Tiara II is being localized on: January 12, 2015, 02:41:09 PM
And I freaking love reading... but that said, I did go into TtT2 looking for a game, not a visual novel.
This just the way Tears to Tiara 1&2, Utawarerumono, and other similar games are. They are mostly VNs with some gameplay portions added in. For people who like VNs but want to have a bit of actual gameplay instead of solely reading through 20 or so hours of text.

All the anime sites I frequent have had very polarizing views of the Kancolle anime.  People who play the game and viewers that like anime like Strike Witches and have "cute girls, doing cute things" generally liked/loved it. Everyone else ranged from "average with potential" to "meh" for the most part.

Yikes! I can see where you coming from though, they went way overboard with the fanservice (not that kind) that only people who play the game or read doujins would get. I fangasmed over it, but I can definitely see some of those flaws. Hopefully they explain the ship girls  and Abyssal fleets origins as the series goes on, as well as things like ship construction and docking.

Rider is pretty important in Heaven's Feel, actually.  But yeah, she kind of gets shafted in this route.  And her role in the Fate route isn't much better.
Having a shitty and irredeemably worthless master doomed her from the start.

= I don't get runes much yet.  People make this game sound easy, but I remember the opposite when I played this as a young'un.  Soo... I'll do my best. :S
Suikoden II is as easy as you want to be. Depending on your party set up the game can be broken easily.
= Good god the music is divine.  The perfect east/west influences in suitable melodies and perfect instrumentation.  Who could as for more?
...funny enough, the main battle theme is balls (or it gets better, but 20 seconds too late).  Then again, I can't say any Suikoden has really impressed me in this aspect here... =/
Suikoden I and II are up there for best music in any game series up there with Trigger/Cross for me. Thank the lucky stars Konami realized it was gold as there are over A dozen arranged albums for this series.
= Fumi Ishikawa is an outstanding artist.  I don't blame Konami for using her twice in a row.  Hell, any Suikoden artist has a super formidable task of creating at LEAST 108 unique characters (+ important enemies/NPCs) and is able to do so without making their style look repetitive whereas there's a ton of artists who are waaay too guilty of "same facing" (like, for example, Tony Taka and Nomura)
The amount of detail and care put into character design is  suberb. Even the fodder 108 members  are nicely detailed.

Ai Tenchi Muyo!......how can you make a series that has Tenchi as the protagonist be this bad? Even Tenchi in Tokyo is better then this crap.
44  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Fairy Fencer F And Hyperdimension Neptunia Games Coming To Steam on: December 22, 2014, 04:26:17 PM

Well it is something. I don't mind more rpgs on stream but I wish some other company would have jumped on the steam boat then Compile/Idea factory. That said i'll definitely pick up the Rebirth games and Fairy Fencer.
45  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden 1 and 2 finally coming to psn + Suikoden discussion. on: December 19, 2014, 05:38:19 PM
So, being unable to play much Suikoden today due to a recent surgery, I mostly just browsed the internet looking for various things to keep me amused, when I happened across this particular piece of awesomeness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12ZF-1MzVkw

Back in the mid-90's, if you were an RPG, and your names wasn't 'Arc the Lad II',, you didn't get no fancy anime adaption. However, there was still a chance of getting a manga adaption or, if you were lucky, a drama CD or two. Suikoden must have hit the jackpot, as it received a full-blown radio drama which retells  the story of the first game, with some liberties taken of course.. Of course, most drama CD's aren't all that accessible due to usually staying in Japan, and being in Japanese. Not so with this one. What we have today is not only the Suikoden radio drama translated, but applied to sprites and maps from the actual first Suikoden game, edited to accord to the radio drama. The result is the closet thing you'll get to a Suikoden anime, and for people who've played the game, it's a must-see.

But wait, there's more! Turns out that the same guy responsible for this also gave the Suikoden II Drama CD the same treatment. Neither of these are real substitutes for the games themselves, but again, for those who've played these, these vidoes are just so enjoyable. :D
good find. will watch later.
