556  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: China prisons used for MMO gold-farming on: May 27, 2011, 11:19:08 AM
This whole thing is crazy. Forcing people to make fake money in a game so it can sold to make real money. So fucking weird why would people want to buy fake money. Can't you just you know play the game to get it.

Either way using prisoners to farm for gold in a game is just ridiculous.

Farming gold  takes a lot of time  in a Korean grinder. We are not talking  1 or 2 hours but over half a day or more purely devoted to farming.  Even putting in that time you are not guaranteed  to get much because most of these games have soul crushingly low drop rates. A lot of people who play these games soley play their mmo, or spend the majority of their gaming time on it.  So like any major hobby they are willing to throw money at it to improve their experience.   The "free to play" korean mmos are not really free.  You can technically play them without using the cash shop but you better be highly masochistic, and willing to spend massive amounts of time  farming for decent gear, while the person besides you just goes to the cash store and buys gear far superior to yours. Even in games where getting gold is easy such as WoW or Rift you still have  people buying gold and massive amounts of it. Some people are just not willing to farm/gather no matter how easy it is. These people  want their gear/potions/money sink items now and are going to take the easiest way to getting them.

The whole idea behind it is just dumb to me. Whether it's common or not. Why would you spend real money on fake money.
Because these games require you to have an impossible without cheating amount of in-game money.
That or spend thousands of hours just farming the cash for basic equipment.
In Lineage 2, your level 20 weapon costs 6,000,000 while you get about 500 per drop IF the enemy dropped money.
^what he said. With some mmos its impossible to get ahead without cheating. I stay away from most korean grinders for exactly this reason. You are either going to have to buy items from a cash shop or gold site or be left in the dust. I have zero problems with grinding I prefer aoe grinding to questing. It is the cash shops and money sinks that keep me from playing them.  If you joined lineage 2 late it is actually recommended that you bot or you will have an almost impossibly hard time catching up with the rest of the player base.

Not even 1 track from Chrono Cross =automatic fail

Chrono Cross is in the list with "God's Garden", is number 680...

And is the only track from the game for what I can see. I've saw all the list of the other videos and I can't seem to find more of Chrono Cross in there.

There's also a bunch of really good tracks awfully low on the list with some other weird tracks that aren't quite put in the right place in the Top. But well, what I can do about it anyway.

Oh, and "Fighting of the Spirit" is number 122.
So something like "Time's'Scar" does not make the cut while the crap below makes the top 50?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2fhyVuES8g

This fucking noise is one of the top 50 videogame songs of all time?  Really?  I'll take Fighting of the Spirit from Tales of Symphonia/Phantasia over that shit any day.

epic /facepalm

nice  that someone did this. I  can't however say I  agree with alot of the top 50 though. Not even 1 track from Chrono Cross =automatic fail

Newest patch lowered the Expert dungeon difficulty levels to bang your face on the keyboard easy. This has made alot of people upset since most of them were on the level of being just slightly lower difficulty then The Burning Crusade Heroics pre nerf. I see this as a stupid move really.  What are they going to do when everyone has all the gear? Most people do not  raid so the experts and warfronts are pretty much their endgame.

...They nerfed them into the ground to the point you can almost ignore the boss fight mechanics entirely.

Sad to hear.  How in touch are they with the community?  Do they ever give reasoning behind this sort of thing?  I wonder how many people struggled with the bosses pre-nerf.  Definitely doesn't seem like a good idea for the long run.
They listened to the  I want my gear but I do not want to put in any effort for it crowd.

edit: They were not really that hard to begin with most of the boss mechanics were simple, and could be summed up as see lasers run away . when the  boss does aoe gtfo, do not stand in it. Trion said they were just going to slightly nerf the instance trash hp, which was needed in the hardest instance  Deep Strike Mines that  had mountains among mountains of trash. What they did was nerf everything to hell.
561  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Rift on: May 12, 2011, 03:26:15 PM
Hm... I'm nowhere near leveled high enough to speak to that yet, but I tend to be against difficulty nerfs on principle unless the encounter(s) in question are legitimately unfair.  Perhaps they'll adjust the difficulty once again in another patch to push it back if it becomes clear to them that the dungeons are now too easy?  I certainly don't want to give anyone excuses, but Rift is a relatively new MMO, and balance can be a very touchy thing (particularly, I imagine, in light of all the possible class and spec combinations in this one- I imagine there must be significant variance in group makeup and abilities, even in the endgame).
They nerfed them into the ground to the point you can almost ignore the boss fight mechanics entirely.

The original soul caliber was the best. The series steadily went downhill from there . Hopefully V won't be broken to hell like 3 and 4 were.

566  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Persona 4 anime? on: April 15, 2011, 08:13:13 PM
I really have no hopes for this and am rather miffed this is what they chose to do with P4. (P3 gets remade twice and all P4 gets is a "Oh yeah; you still exist. Have an animated adaptation instead of any new material across any medium.") XP Until I find a show that proves me wrong I really have no faith in present-day Japanese ability to tell a proper story through the anime medium without botching it up horribly somehow. And if Sakura Wars New York NY has taught me anything it's that the Video Game to Movie stereotype applies to Video Game to Anime as well; expect a train wreck, be pleasantly surprised if it comes out anything above "below average".

Edit: Sorry, three times. I forgot about that cell phone thing for P3.
Tales of the Abyss anime  turned out ok

I still prefer the originals a lot more  then the  remakes and the lunatic festa osts are arranged,  not exactly what you hear in game.
Arranged version of the battle theme  from the cd that came with the collector's edition of Silver Star Story for the PS1

I can see why you like them I just prefer the originals.

There are plenty of JRPGs competently writtten. Competently translated is a different story.

But wait a minute. For an JRPG to be competently translated as you say it has to be competently writtten too, don't you think?

A lot of things in Japanese just does not translate well into English.

It should be pretty good if they stay faithful to the source material . The high school comedy that the Japanese love and some mystery suspense . I just hope to God that it does not end up being like Trinity Soul.
