One thing that drives me nuts about Japanese games as of late is their insistence of using an anime-style.  I'm sure environments and people could turn out way better if they went for a more realistic feel that the console is capable of.  Namco Bandai does have the talent (usually at other divisions).  And it is unfortunate then when these realistic-anime graphics did come in Star Ocean 4, it was rejected as being too akin to a "creepy doll".  I still think Tri-Ace usually masters environments (for a smaller J-developer).

I dunno - I think they're both trying to hit some effect.  SO is trying to be real, Tales is pulling that more washed-out anime backdrop look.  Even character wise: SO has textures, Tales is just smoothed out (where hair is probably the only liberty taken).

In terms of this aliasing business.... um, I couldn't care less how edges look.  I find you stop noticing when the game is in motion anyways - one reason I hate looking at screenshots; they never do a game justice.

Cultural differences. They like their  graphics to look  more anime/manga like, while we westerners like realistic graphics. Like someone else said in some past thread.

Funny that there's this dividing line between "I'm not interested in Xillia, but I am in Graces" and vice versa.  I take Xillia's side.... even if the main girl does look like a prostitute.

Why can't we like both?

Anyway, good news about Graces.

^ This, I want both, because I am greedy like that.

Tales of Xillia post on Andriasang shows "map actions"; making world areas (not maps, it seems, like Graces avoided as well) a little more exciting.... but not Nathan Drake exciting (lol, this is an RPG!).

Graphics look brilliant for a Tales title; then again, I've always loved how they do backgrounds, even since the SNES days.
I hope to Christ we get this.  Funny that there's this dividing line between "I'm not interested in Xillia, but I am in Graces" and vice versa.  I take Xillia's side.... even if the main girl does look like a prostitute.

I hope taletards  buy whatever tale game(s) namdai decide to release, so we get this.

I attempted to walk to my car today.  I was unsuccessful.  I will get some pics of my apartment complex.

Snow is up to my knees, in some places higher.

Nice, alot of the music in the Persona games would fit very well in a jukebox.

Oddest damn dream!. Ghosts appeared out a portal like  thing one night and  invaded the world,  ending in most of humanity being wiped out. The survivors  created  weapons that where basically the stuff seen in ghosts busters, and fought back against the ghosts, eventually making it to their leader the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. Things were going well but every time he got hurt  he started regenerating . Finally,  he enraged  and started grabbing people and using their spiritual  energy to repair. It ended up with  me being the only one left. running around blasting him  and hiding in every small place I could find.  Dream  ended with me running out of places to run and being Hulk smashed by Stay Puffs' giant foot.

I've bought way worst games than a rehashed Vesperia... way way worst.

Getting both whenever they are released. Added incentive is that my 360 recently red lighted, and I am not buying another one.

I know Sankaku Complex is frowned upon around here - but "they report" that sales have come down, and a lot of artists who are actually in the biz, are also complaining about the degrading quality in story-telling, overuse of females (no good male characters besides the dull idiot amongst the female harem), and generally unimpressive (copy, pastes) of themes and ideas (school girls and the lot).

I really can't wrap my head around why school girls and the best thing since sliced bread.  Speaking at times, it seems like their anime is taken more seriously than even their movie industry, you'd think there would be more interesting stuff floating around.
The Japanese Otaku who make up a large % of  the outrageously expensive Japanese DVD sales, eat this stuff up and its guaranteed easy money.Which is why anime is so bad right now. The industry is playing copy-cat. If something sells exceptionally high one season there will be atleast two clones of it the next season.

Watching Welcome to the N-H-K, I recommend this one fully. I'm only half way through it, but it's comical and actually realistic in this odd way.  I can't explain it, but this ranks of one of my top favs so far.
If you like the anime,  you might want to check out the manga. It goes way more in dept with the characters then the anime. Fair warning though, alot of the chapters are really depressing. The anime is way lighter in feel then the manga.

I think I might give the manga a try!  Thanks for suggestion.  Are their any animes that anyway can think of that are in the vein of Welcome to the NHK?  I finished it up and it just had this profound effect one me.  I like my over the top anime, but sometimes it's nice to have some take a more serious real life approach.

N.H.K  is really unique in that the author was A  N.E.E.T/ Hikikomori. There is nothing really like it that I have seen.
570  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ar tonelico 3 coming to the PS3 January 2010 on: January 31, 2011, 08:40:49 AM
I'm actually amazed at the immediate change of heart thrown to this title. From "hoorays" to "nays".

I'll get it... if reviews really throw the title a bone (and a discount gets tossed into the mix too).  I may be wrong, but I think other titles I want are coming out around the same time too...

I can't condone playing a game that sexualizes little girls in it. I find the recent trend of pedophilia in anime/manga (and video games ?) very disturbing and troubling. When characters that look like they haven't even gone through puberty yet are depicted in sexual poses, I find it amazing that more people don't seem to have any trouble with it.

Desensitization.
Here is the thing Japan has always been doing this, especially in anime and manga. Its always been present in various degrees  in comedies, fantasy, alot of anime were the setting is junior high, magical girl. etc... After watching anime for 15 years you become a bit desensitized to it. Its just been far  more blatant, and in your face the last couple of years.  You rather be given an acid bath then letting someone catch you watching/playing some of this stuff. The new bill being passed in Japan  should fix some recent stuff being shown, since if they do it  to that degree, pretty much guarantees a title an adult rating.
