Yeah, good point. For some reason it just didn't satisfy me entirely as a conclusion - not that it wasn't plausible, because it is (and hey, there was a reason that I guessed that person as the suspect right off the bat on December 7th or whatever), it just kinda made me go 'really, that's IT?' - but I might have just been getting annoyed with 'this is the suspect - no THIS is the suspect - NO WAIT HIM' thing as well.
2897  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Most Annoying Playable Character on: August 11, 2009, 01:01:17 PM
It seems that no character can annoy me completely. Junpei is, yes, annoying, but he's supposed to be, and where P3 is otherwise pretty serious and dark, I found him to be great comic relief. The Operation Babe Hunt was the best.

The only times when he genuinely annoyed me was when he remained pissy for like a MONTH that the MC remained the leader of the group. And then when
Code:
he bitched at the MC for bringing that 13th Shadow to town with him - yes, as if the MC had ANY IDEA.

I'd have to say that Cielo in DDS is slightly annoying.

Persona 4:
Code:
I thought Adachi as the main villain pretty cool. I never expected he'd be the villain after revealing Namatame and stuff

Heck I even though Teddie or Nanako was the villain. Lol

Code:
Actually, for a while I thought it was going to have something to do with Nanako as well.  I didn't think she was going to be the "villain" per se, but sort of an unwilling tool used by your average SMT God-figure running the show.

I mean, it's a solid guess.  All the dungeons and characters center around television shows, and who do we know that's constantly watching television?  Nanako.
Code:
Good point about Nanako always watching TV. I had a feeling though that at the VERY LEAST she'd be kidnapped and you'd have to rescue her, which of course happened.

I thought for a while that it was gonna be Teddie too, at least somehow unknowingly or unwittingly on his part.

The thing that annoyed me about Adachi being the one, was his excuse being all 'DUR I WAS BORED IN THIS SMALL TOWN' but hey, that's why you go after the True ending I suppose.

Digital Devil Saga 2: made my way through underground city alleys, and now in the tunnels to Karma City. I'm only an hour or two in and ALREADY this game is more story laden than DDS1.

Ah, Nocturne. I hear there are 6 endings or so? I'm hoping to beat it before my fall semester of DOOM begins - which is still a month away, heh.

When in DDS2 do I encounter Abaddon? All this talk about him makes me wonder what this fight is going to be like.

Off to start a game of DDS2.

That ending wtffffffffffffffffffffffff.

Will start DDS2 tomorrow.

I'm at, apparently, the second last boss in DDS. This dungeon is HUGE. I teleported the hell out of there to find a vendor, and damn - I made 1.3 million Macca off those cells, holy shit.

Need a break before I go beat the game though.. I spent all day playing. :P
2904  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Best story in an RPG? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!) on: August 09, 2009, 01:46:50 PM
I must say that a good story MUST have both good characters and well-constructed situations. Themes portrayed by these characters and the situations they are in are also very important. It's the whole package that matters or else the quality of the story would be hindered.

In the case of Xenosaga, I really liked the story. By no means is it perfect, because a lot of the most important plot points are crammed and resolved at light-speed and without much fleshing out at the very end of the last episode. It really felt like the series should have spanned six episodes instead of three. But the overall themes and the characters were quite endearing, even if they're still plagued by the overdramatic characterization and self-importance that is quite common in both JRPGs and anime. And speaking of anime, here's the thing: I really liked Xenosaga, but I can't stand Evangelion. So, where does that leave me in regards to this?

Last I checked, Xenosaga's director wasn't in a mental institute when the last episode came out. There's that, for starters. And XSIII is probably much less retarded than oh, the last ep or two of EVA.

But I never got to III so what do I know!

You distribute his stats yourself though, so he can grow either way. I taught him most ice, quite a lot of fire (so far) and basic healing. Since I ditched Heat, I needed someone to have STR, I have Serph's magic and strength about equal. Plus I like everyone to have decent Hunt skills, even if their STR blows (I'm looking at you Cielo)

I paid 44+ shipping. The EBs here don't have it/never got the re-issue.

Well, it was more like 57 in the end, but eh. I justify it by recalling that I spent 40 Canadian tops on Nocturne and DDS2 each.

Yeah, they're physical. And really useful. I plan on teaching him the last Ice one after whatever the hell he's learning now. I may have ditched Heat a couple dungeons ago, oops.

I uh... never got a red key either. Or green! Fuck.

Ah yeah. I have the spyglass. Very useful indeed even if I forget about it half the time.

I hate escaping from battles though. Dunno why. Too much pride or something :P
2908  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Super Game Journal Turbo II - The New Challengers on: August 09, 2009, 03:49:12 AM
That can make it hard for some people. But you're right, the battles can be really easy or kick your ass real quick. Plus you can learn Void Death, and Gale comes withit. A lot about DDS is trial and error from the dungeons to the enemies. I've probably died a hundred times (or two) but I figure if I give up now, what the hell did I pay $60 for? :P

From what I hear, DDS2 provides much more of the games' plot. Hence my wanting to play it as soon as I'm finished with the first one.

Anyway,.. I'm near the end. The temple is HUUUUGE. I've spent HOURS in it, deaths aside. In the process, I made Serph something of a badass. I taught him Cruel Leader, and War God (Executioner and Revelation oh yes please), and even though I have yet to teach him the last Ice mantra, he's doing well. :P
2909  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: "Woman getting married to fairground ride" on: August 08, 2009, 11:04:58 PM
There was an episode of The Simpsons when Homer becomes an ordained minister thanks to the Internet and marries anyone to anything, like the sailor guy to his ship's figurehead/"hood ornament."

Yeah, once again something ridiculous in real life reminds me of an episode of South Park or The Simpsons.

I recall Peter marrying a piece of pie in Family Guy and eating it seconds later.

Kyuusei: I had the same problem.  I was stuck on Catoblepas for some time before I realized that.  I kept looking for a Null Petrify or for it to be listed under one of the status ailment null skills.
Yep. I was doing the exact same thing when looking at skills and mantra - looking for a Null Petrify.

And eventually it occurred to me that since Void Death nulls curses, let's see if it can null petrification too! And it worked. DURR.

I am now inside the temple. Beat one boss so far.
