I never played P3 before FES came out so I know zero firsthand about the differences between the two, I got that info secondhand :P

I'm sure Junpei has cast Fire Break also. In fact, I'm going to take out DDS just to find out. ...Junpei has Fire Break in my save, while Koromaru doesn't. :P

I actually didn't do it all that much, it was in some random battle(s) and I already had him in my party. If I was doing it, it was probably because his physical stuff AND his fire stuff really were both useless for whatever reason. Honestly, it was months ago, so whatever.

Although *who* learns Fire Break might be different in Persona 3 than in Persona 3: FES. Wow, random change much?

I do remember a lot of people getting annoyed with Teddie in Persona 4 regarding his un-bear-able puns and jokes.

But I found him alright though.
It came and went with me. Sometimes he really was unbearable (especially as support) but I really adored him in some scenes, especially if they involved Nanako.

I realize that the 'Cloud having no personality' thing is intentional, but it doesn't stop me from loathing him. He might actually be one of my most hated protagonists. :P

I do have to agree with Shinra being a rather realistic villain, though.

I actually liked Fei from Xenogears. Okay, I didn't like that he was like 'I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT :(' for a while but hey, it was different than every other protagonist ever going 'OKAY LET'S FIGHT' like five minutes into the game :P Otherwise, I liked him, his background, etc etc.

I rarely had issues with AI in Persona 3. When I did, it was against Nyx when he had that shield thing up and you could hit it and die (EVEN WHEN BEING TOLD TO HEAL/SUPPORT WTF), and I bailed all their dumb asses out with Samarecarm. :P You're right, they did use less buff/debuff spells as the game wears on but if you want them to use one so bad, Heal/Support's enough for a turn. If I left them on Heal/Support, it's just because I don't want them to attack. :P

Besides that, the MC can easily have all the Break spells handy. If I really want Junpei involved, I'd cast Fire Break myself, although he did it on his own a lot. (I'm sure that a high enough level Akihiko must have learned Electric Break at SOME point, otherwise that would be kind of ridiculous.

Maybe it's because I juiced my personae with all those damn cards/cups/wands etc but my MC always went first among the party, unless he had some ailment or other. OKAY NEVERMIND Gen covered this apparently :P

 But for most of the time, I let them Act Freely and I rarely, if ever found Persona 3 difficult.

Then again, I didn't get into Tartarus' basement...

...what? I hear Nocturne is pretty damn hard overall. :P

As for DDS, we'll see when I get through both games. I hear the end boss in 2's a pain though :P

As for P4, the first couple bosses are a HUGE pain. Even with a guide. And I have to concur that just getting the game's true ending was pretty damn ludicrous.

I dunno about you, but I kind of expected DDS to be more dark and not like, Persona 4-colorful. You're in a post-apocalyptic world, how rainbowy is that gonna be?

I like the mantra grid so far because it makes sense. Plus it makes it easier for characters who are weak to Fire (for example...) learn Void Fire etc.

I find that I can die really easily to new enemies, yes. After a death or two I realize what they're weak/immune to, but yeah, still annoying. :P

I decided to mess around in Persona 3 (using a second cycle) to see what carries over. I still have ten million yen (the max), I'm still a badass, charismatic genius and I'm apparently 85 times stronger than my teammates.... sigh. And am told I still have my Persona compendium..which I can't see yet. Now I'm stopping or I'll end up playing the entire game again and make my MegaTen backlog cry.

FFVIII's junction system. I didn't like being penalized for casting a spell I had to travel half the globe to get...

Yes, you've mentioned this three times already.

I thought DDS used Garu.

Wait it uses both. Christ. Zan, Garu, Bufu, Agi, Zio, Tera, Mudo, AND Hama?

All but Garu, yeah.

I like Hama in DDS, and how instead of being another instant KO spell (a la Persona 3/4 and whatever else) it halves HP for something different. :P

kyuu, the mantra system actually sucks. If you max out any of the skill paths, you get huge problems with me unplugging this laptop, coming out of your closet, and beating you with a horse dildo.

Are you still on DDS1 or 2? I liked 2's gridded thingy more. It's basically the same thing with some added sphere-grid-ish-but-not-sphere-grid-ish complexities/funnerities. DDS2's combat is also better balanced, with the half-mutations and human form not actually sucking. Unfortunately the dungeons in DDS2 aren't that interesting. THey look really good but there's nothing as cool as the Theme Park from DDS1, or the Diet Building from Nocturne*.

To be fair, though, there's nothing as cool as the Diet Building in any other game. Period. Ever. Why wasn't such a concept used in a UT map :(

Also DDS2 is still linear as hell. I mean, SMT:N was linear, but you had plot branches and stuff, and sidequests in Amala. DDS1 and 2 shuffle you along.

* In Nocturne, every dungeon was like a game in and of itself.


I'm still on 1. Gonna play 2 right after, since people say the games are pretty incomplete on their own but awesome together. Or one after another. Whatever. I really enjoyed the theme castle in DDS1. it was different.

No, you don't.
At least not in DDS 1 or 2. They are no fun whatsoever and you only stand a tiny little chance with maxed characters. It's not like in most other games where you need to be powerful, but there is some flexibility about it, like the lvls, party, equipment and skills. For the DDS optional bosses you need to have a fixed setup and everything else will get you a game over in the first round.
Even if you are maxed, you can still get a game over in the first round or anything one, if you make even the slightest mistake.
If normal optional bosses are like creative writing, DDS optional bosses are like manually copying some 500 page book.
The main point is that they depend 99% of pure luck and 1% on following exact instructions (which people found out by trying over and over for hours on end), so there is zero personal strategy involved. No fun at all.
They are no longer challenges but simply a test of patience, testing how many times the player is willing to try beating it after already testing how much time the player is willing to spend grinding.

I'll keep in mind not to bother (so much) with DDS's optional bosses :P
