I think Garu is probably a bastardization of Gale.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I played P3.

As for Zan, there are enemies weak/immune to it in DDS as well, and that game has Megido/almighty too.

..and SIX kinds of physical damage?! Jesus. :P

Digital Devil Saga: Just got to the deserted ship. I really do love this game.

Even though the 5th floor keeps kicking my ass. What the fuck :P

Okay I lied. Really almost done the DDS creepy castle now. Finished the really elaborate mirror-and-light puzzle, now I want to vomit because all the movement made me kinda nauseous. :P

I love that game so much. It's so much fun, hell, I even played it before I played... any other RPG, really. You might say it got me into RPGs, I had a friend over and she said I'VE BEEN PLAYING A GAME LIKE THIS.. and off to the store we went and rented Chrono Trigger.

I love the sequels to SMRPG as well, but that game has the most memories.

I definitely don't buy as many games as I used to, that's for damn sure. I buy games I have a definite interest in and know I'll want to finish, rather than years ago when I used to buy whatever sounded good and I'd like to play 'at some point'. Those games accumulated and I no longer cared to play them years later so they, like Xenosaga, got sold. That's pretty much the only reason my backlog shrank.

Plus I mainly jump on Atlus games right away because they tend to go out of print in like five minutes. :P

Right now I'm debating if I should even play Final Fantasy XII, or see what I can sell it + the guide for.

Damn. Garu and Zan both looked like wind to me. Even though DS and DDS (...) both call it a force spell, maybe I just thought they were using different terminology. :P

There's earth spells in DDS too. They're called Tera there (for Terra, which makes sense). I wonder where Hama comes from, Mudo sounds... Latin, I'm guessing.

Digital Devil Saga - back at the Maribel's base. Got my ass kicked by regular enemies three times, time to start using Void Death methinks. :P

Void Death is useful enough to keep equipped for the long haul.  I keep it on Serph at all times.  It blocks those annoying curse attacks too. :P

Yeah, I equipped it on Serph as soon as he learned it. Of course, I did that then died, then forgot I had to set it again, but Gale having it by default saved my ass. :P

Almost done the castle dealie.
2963  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Megami Tensei Topic on: August 03, 2009, 03:33:08 AM
For that matter, why is it Zan in some games, Garu in others? :P

Wow, that's a few questions in a row there.

I completely forgot about this, but someone translated those Persona 3 4koma:

May contain spoilers.

'She probably meant FFX, not FFVIII, Junpei.'

ROFL I love these.

This might be somewhat relevant:

http://hiimdaisy.livejournal.com/26044.html#cutid1 - Spoilers for the first hour or two of Persona 4.

This wins. I liked the description of Yosuke's Persona, Disco Ninja Frog! I'd love to see her do a P3 one.

I resumed the operation of Persona 4 after I interrupted it earlier for Digital Devil Saga.  Or, as the plebeian rubes would say in their common vernacular, restarted it.

I got the Dojimas maxed.  My only real goal now is to work over Naoto...when I can. :P

Just hang out with her whenever she's around. I started that link at least a week later than the guide said it was available, and I still got it to 7 and I didn't hang out with her too much before December.

Digital Devil Saga - back at the Maribel's base. Got my ass kicked by regular enemies three times, time to start using Void Death methinks. :P

SMT Persona 3.  There just isn't enough depth in these games in my view.

That was about when I stopped reading. Too bad it was almost at the end of his post.

Digital Devil Saga, Solids' (or wtfever) base.

Getting my ass kicked less = good. Red eyed statues = creepy. Mantras = fun. Can you tell I've been grinding a little? :P

Think I'm done with most of this base.
2969  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How do you like your combat/story mixed? on: August 01, 2009, 02:32:51 PM
I tend to love a really good story, so long as it ain't like Disc 2 of Xenogears where you're watching more than playing.

That said, just because a game has a great story doesn't mean I'll give it a pass for shitty gameplay. If I'm gonna go hours in between pieces of story, the battle system better be somewhat enjoyable.
2970  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Another countdown from Squeenix on: July 31, 2009, 11:18:30 PM
I read that. I never did play Lord of Vermilion, though. :P

It's now a VI for me.
