Oh god here comes Square Enix's personal white knight, fighting the evils of opinions and observations that paint his company in anything less than a pearly white luster.

Seriously, Ygg, do you ever just stop and ask yourself if what SE is paying you is enough to attack people for thinking negatively about SE? It's pretty infuriating to have to read a personal attack every time someone says SE isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread

You make no sense.

A shame that you see my message as an attack though. Is always the same story here anyway.

For fucks sake how many more fucking games need to be redone before we get FFXV?

Go buy some patience and chill out.

The FFXIII trilogy also has Type-0 (because unfortunately Type-0's plot ties into the XIII trilogy in the most bizarre and hamstrung way possible), which is getting its HD version.

I know you like to be an smartass and that's great and all, but you are kind confusing plot with mythos shenanigans. And in any case, for as much as the FNC games have recurring topics and terminologies, each of them don't live or die by those (fairly loose) connections when each series have their own things going on.

So many people complain about the music. The music sounded the same to me.

More than anything else, I'm pretty sure these fans have issues with the arrangements changing the feeling of original tracks, which they have heard for over 10 years now.

TV Spot : The Hunt Begins -- PlayStation, Twitter

This looks great but makes me worry they'll do what nearly every series with an action side ends up doing: slowly turning into a full action game. Mass Effect, Resident Evil, Dead Space, Final Fantasy. It's like creative cancer.

I can't say I'm 100% with you on that one.

what i meant by that is the controls complexity never exceeds that of say, sleeping dogs or shadow of mordor in which your swan song techs don't require much more than trigger holds and dual button presses with a slight reliance on timing for things like dodging. senran kengura versus, which i also just had a blast with, was very much like this as well. in fact senran and xenoverse are very similar control wise and is probably the only accurate comparison that comes to mind. its hard to really draw paralels with other games because of the flying aspects.

it would probably be easier\clearer to distinguish what this does not feel like. this is not a street fighter, soul calibur, dead or alive, virtual fighter, dbz budokai or persona arena. while it certainly is not mordor, sleeping dogs, dynasty warriors or (i'm reaching here) a current gen "tales of" battle system, it feels a hell of a lot closer to these.

Doesn't sound for me since I like my Beat 'em ups (and Fighting games) to have levels of complexity. I'll look into it better later and see if I get it or not. Thanks! :)

After the stinkbomb that was the XIII-series they're probably going for that 'western audience appeal'.

They did that with XII and XIII. And is no secret either. Both of them were still Japanese games from head to toe though.

Which unless your dev team leader's name is 'Keiji Inafune' means using the worst stereotypes of that region as your inclusivity factor.

But that's the very misguided definition of Keiji Inafune of "appealing to a Western audience". Which as far as I remember, give birth to Lost Planet, Dead Rising and DmC: Devil May Cry when he was at Capcom.

So for us Americans it means the guns, gore, and (judging by the way they dress the mechanic in XV) rednecks are in full swing as 'ways we can make them buy this game'.

That's neither me being sarcastic nor rude neither. Nor Japan being rude. Even in today's multi-cultural internet society the majority of Japanese use harsh cultural cliches when trying to appeal or reference the outside world because the 'island nation' mindset is still very real and sadly a majority thought process. They merely don't know anything else about 'the west' other than that.

SQEX is not exclusively catering to this idea of a Western audience with XV. Much of the game is the synonymous of 'International presentation' nowadays.

Personally I think it's an attempt to be more like Type-0, which has blood and 'brutality' and is quite good. That game was well-received (and not exactly designed for western audiences), so I'm not sure I see it as an attempt to grab western players.

Type-0 HD became a thing thanks to fan demand. Nothing with the itself has changed as far as I've seen to please your average joe oblivious of the world outside of him.

2. The clunkiness of the first few hours completely disappears. As soon as new moves are acquired as you level up, combat becomes fluid and addicting as sin. The easy to execute maneuvers make you really in control of linking intentional attack strategies, dodging and well placed/timed range attacks. Tank-ee feeling to start quickly evolves to a very tight and deliberate control.

I like the sound of this. But when you say in your first point that it "feels very much like a brawler/beat 'em up", what kind of Beat 'em up do I think of to get a better idea?

I was referring more to the recent trend of console-crap-of-Z productions in recent history when I was talking bad about the games.

I haven't put any kind of attention to DB in years to know about any of that. Ironically, browsing some sites recently I was surprised to find out about Dragon Ball Minus.

I'll see if one of these days I get around to read this manga.
40  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Xenoverse, DBZ game or something more? on: February 22, 2015, 03:21:35 PM
Now, we all know DBZ games are not games.

Dragon Ball has had its fair share of decent games actually. And besides, stuff like Dear Esther, Gone Home and whatever David Cage does have been discussed before to be "not games", and for good reasons I would say. But that whole thing is a completely different discussion.

And no, I do not wish to remember Dragon Power for NES.

What, you don't like the seemingly endless, painful and repetitive award-winning soundtrack of Dragon Power?

@Dice: Hmm.

Well... The problem I had with the ending of SO3 is that, the same idea could have been executed much better if the writing had as more charm and cleverness going for it as a Metal Gear game. Instead the ending is just kind there and they didn't do anything remarkable with it. By end of the whole thing I was pretty baffled.

That's my 2 cents on the matter.

O_o I....what? I can't comprehend liking 3 and 4. I can vaguely understand not liking 1 or 2, but liking 3 or 4? That just causes my brain to blue screen if I try to comprehend that.

Is not strange enjoying a JRPG only for its gameplay while completely ignoring everything else like FlamingR1ft apparently did with SO3 and 4.

Yeah, I thought SO3 wasn't horrible at all (and I'm pretty sure most people liked it a whole lot)

of course, 4 is an embarrassment

Embarrassing? No, no really. I mean, in its own right SO4 is a funny game and pretty harmless. DmC: Devil May Cry is an example of a genuinely embarrassing game that gives itself the luxury to be sort of offensive at times. It makes me teeth hurt how DmC has an audience, but, at the same time, people can like it as much as they want anyway. *shrug*

That said, I can't really say how much this will actually affect their output since I have no clue as to the buyer's gameplan, but tri-Ace has been on Code Monkey duty for a while now (everywhere from that not-Suikoden game they cranked out to Phantasy Star Nova and even FFXIII-3: Valkyrie Profile: Lightning Returns).

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the work they did with SQEX, Sega and Konami in the last few years has been more involved than most would like to guess.
