3766  Media / Single-Player RPGs / The rise of Squaresoft localization (1UP article) on: February 03, 2012, 12:19:16 AM
How Richard Honeywood helped the house of Final Fantasy go from incoherent to incomparable.

Bit from the article:

"The rise of Square localization begins at the dawn of the PlayStation era. In the mid-1990s, video games were still ruled by the East. Nintendo had just finished asserting its dominance with the Super Nintendo, and Sega and Sony were preparing to duke it out in three dimensions with the Saturn and the PlayStation, both launched in the twilight days of 1994. The powerful Western developers of the period were mostly confined to the very segregated PC market. That would eventually change, with companies like Epic Games and BioWare finding enormous success on home consoles and Microsoft entering the scene with the Xbox in 2001. But in 1996, it was more or less business as usual, and Square was hard at work on the game that would change everything."

Mai Yamane & Hideyuki Takahashi - Pushing the Sky

Got a little nostalgic and started to hear the soundtrack of the movie of Cowboy Bebop.

Well yeah I change my opinions about about certain games like three times a day and end up saying random stuff sometimes but whatever. :)

One thing though, for me at least Demon's Souls was an experience and it was the same thing for probably other people aswell since it was the first time they/we saw a game in that style, so... dunno. To each his own I guess?

After all, not everyone enjoys video games the same way (if that makes any sense).

I've been having stuck in my head "Historia Crux" for weeks now. I can imagine people by now having a bunch of tracks from the soundtrack in their music players.

...and later they don't tell anyone that they enjoy video game music. :P The horror.

Visually this looks a lot like Vagrant Story. Hope someone bring it over here, seems interesting so far.

Even if I never played the first one for the DS it was such a shame that Another Code: R for Wii got stuck between Japan and Europe. Many nice titles for the DS and Wii end up like that and really don't want to see that happening again with the 3DS and WiiU.

Or at least not as often.

I just wonder if anyone will ever solve the pendant mystery(assuming there is one).

I would not be surprised if the pendant is just for trade. There are some areas that are pretty weird, like they seem to have some sort of purpose but there's absolutely nothing that can give you a clue or something.

People have tried a ton of stuff with Solaire since the description in rings, items, miracles and his weapon and armor say that he is more important that what he actually appears to be since he was some kind of Deity or Demigod many many years ago and that's maybe one of the reasons why he is searching for "his sun".

In any case I really hope someone in a interview ask about that because people has been going crazy with the pendant for a long time now.

Actually Code Veronica cost me like 40 bucks since in those days I was stupid enough to force my poor mother and one of my sisters to buy me a PS2 and a GameCube for really stupid reasons, and I got both consoles when they were pretty much obsolete. To this day I feel bad for doing that instead of waiting like a good kid for a PS3 and be happy with that.

Though, I enjoyed games like Persona 3 FES, Dragon Quest VIII and FFX-2 on PS2 and Wind Waker with Killer7 on the Cube so not everything was bad. Still, I bought around 20 games for boht systems that just today I'm gonna sell.

I don't even care that much how money the guy gives me, I just wanna get rid of this shit because it brings me bad memories...

One of the games I wish I have never bought and play were RE: Code Veronica X. What a waste of time that was... I wish that game never existed, but it does and it sucks but what can I do about it? Not much really since I finished the whole thing because I pay for it. At least that game show me that I never really liked survival horror games and Resident Evil as I thought.

Anyway, did a little bit of the demo of Syndicate last night and is not bad.

Demon's Souls is really more an experience than a regular video game and actually the story that it has is pretty dark. But like D-Rider said, is not for you.

Though I totally understand your situation in investing time in something that you put your own money and hoped to enjoy.
3777  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dark Souls on: February 01, 2012, 09:34:34 PM
Have to admit that I got kinda scared when in the interview he said that they are able to make an even darker game.

Demon's Souls and some moments in Dark Souls totally killed part of my innocence, but I am more or less excited to play another one since I do enjoy a lot the combat and atmosphere.
3778  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Do you keep your games or trade after finishing them? on: February 01, 2012, 12:37:04 PM
I sold the ones I know I will never play again or didn't enjoyed. Is a bit hard sometimes to sell RPGs since you always develop some kind of connection with those.
3779  The Rest / General Discussions / When did you get into gaming? on: February 01, 2012, 11:55:14 AM
I always remember as a kid reading a bunch of gaming magazines and having a PSone in where I played a good chunk of games, but it wasn't until like in 2007 or '09 that I actually knew enough stuff to understand gaming to really enjoy it and had enough money to start a collection.

Is kinda scary to think that even if I've seen and played for a few minutes a ton of different old titles there's still a huge pile of other ones that I've never heard of.
3780  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Next 10 years of Mega Man being discussed by "Top Men" at Capcom on: February 01, 2012, 11:46:04 AM
Is worth mentioning that Inafune said in more than one occasion that working at Capcom (Japan) sucks and he couldn't really do much of the projects he wanted to do.

But, wasn't he at Capcom for like 25 years working there? That's a lot of time for him to left the way he did... either way all this deal with Mega Man is kinda confusing at this point. I still remember all the drama in the Internet went Inafune left Capcom and did a huge interview with a Japanese gaming site, he sounded pretty depressed at that moment.
