I loved the music in 7. Can't really remember anything else except the motorcycle mini game

This might refresh your memory.

I was still kid when FFVII came out and I don't have memories from '97 (not to mention that I was not into video games yet), but I imagine the effect of people opening their eyes seeing how good the game looks must have been the same as it was with FFX.

Man, the first minutes of FFX are probably the best I've seen in a JRPG.

Got FFIX from the PSN Store. More than 10 hours into it and I'm in Disc 2 already, after all these years this game is still as great as I remember being.

In other words, this was money well spent. :)

I've been wondering if any of you guys consider the Compilation of FFVII it's own thing or you actually see all that compilations of games, movies and what not part of the story of the original game.

Watched Advent Childrenm more than 3 times to understand it, and it wasn't until the "Complete" version that the movie started to make sense... still, I enjoy all the other FFVII stuff that SE has done but they been messing with the story so much that a lot fans don't even know what the story of the game is about at this point.

And after playing FFVII before watching AC I never saw the need for any type of sequel for FFVII since everything makes perfect sense and it ends fine. Then again, that happen with FFX too.

"On January 31st 1997, the seventh (roman numeral) installment of the Final Fantasy series was released in Japan. This old PlayStation title remains one of the biggest video game obsessions of all time, as proven by the still active fanbase."

I am not the appropriate person to make a topic like this since I got into the series around FFX-2 came out by playing first in those days in my PSone FFIX. It wasn't just for curiosity after reading all the rage that FFVII caused in the Internet that I bother my mother to buy me the game. And oh boy, I really wasn't prepared for such a huge experience... I think that even by today standards FFVII is a pretty huge RPG with tons of secrets and little details to enjoy and discover.

That said, is personally not my favorite Final Fantasy but it is without a doubt one of the memorable in the series.
3906  Media / The Soundroom / Re: Why do you read Game/Anime soundtrack reviews? on: February 04, 2012, 10:15:15 PM
It helps me to appreciate from another angle the music I enjoy and learn something in the process. Many times a review has helped me in enjoying and/or discovering certain things that makes that album that I didn't liked that much in the beginning one of my favorites now.

"Why was Front Mission 5: Scars of the War never localized in English by Square Enix Co., Ltd.?

There are a number of reasons why Front Mission 5: Scars of the War was never localized to English by Square Enix Co., Ltd. There is a general belief that the sales of Front Mission 4 in North America is the main cause of this situation. However, this is merely scapegoating rather than pinpointing the real causes behind the game's lack of a localization. Only one main cause can be pinpointed: Square Co., Ltd. and Square Enix Co., Ltd.'s extreme neglect and poor handling of Front Mission outside of Japan.

Please read the following article for more details."

Waiting to be summoned in Dark Souls. I have no idea why I'm still playing this...
3910  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Status of Front Mission on: February 03, 2012, 08:09:25 PM
There hasn't been anything new.

And just for curiosity I just read a bit from the article of Front Mission in Hardcore Gaming 101 about FM Evolved, and I didn't know that Motomu Toriyama wrote the story for that one (link).

Well, for what it's worth that is better than Mega Man X on iOS.

Grandia by Sony and then Square Enix

Hm? Can you give me more details about this please.
3913  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dark Souls on: February 03, 2012, 06:54:30 PM
And as you said, patience and a bit of memorization/trial and error will get through the entire game. No other typical action game skills required, yet people hype it as if it had the most difficult combat since Ninja Gaiden II (not that many, if any RPG gamers have experienced that game.. but you know what I mean).

Pretty much any modern Ninja Gaiden is way more difficult and requires more skill than Dark Souls. Though, I wonder how difficult Dark Souls is in comparison to some NES titles that are usually said being harder than any game that has come out in the last 10 or 8 years like some retro gamers mention.

Or heck, is Mega Man 9 and 10 harder than Dark Souls? Some people say those Mega Man games are brutal.

Just a quick question, how does DS games look on the 3DS?
3915  Media / Single-Player RPGs / The rise of Squaresoft localization (1UP article) on: February 03, 2012, 12:19:16 AM
How Richard Honeywood helped the house of Final Fantasy go from incoherent to incomparable.

Bit from the article:

"The rise of Square localization begins at the dawn of the PlayStation era. In the mid-1990s, video games were still ruled by the East. Nintendo had just finished asserting its dominance with the Super Nintendo, and Sega and Sony were preparing to duke it out in three dimensions with the Saturn and the PlayStation, both launched in the twilight days of 1994. The powerful Western developers of the period were mostly confined to the very segregated PC market. That would eventually change, with companies like Epic Games and BioWare finding enormous success on home consoles and Microsoft entering the scene with the Xbox in 2001. But in 1996, it was more or less business as usual, and Square was hard at work on the game that would change everything."
