4021  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Dear Esther on: February 23, 2012, 01:40:40 PM
Found this in the comments section in a playthrough of the game.

The narrator is Esther's husband. He speaks of Esther being killed in a drunk driving accident or a brake system failure. The drawings on the walls are scientific depictions of brake system failures and drunk driving. At the end, he says "come back" because you (Esther), are in a coma and the plug is being pulled, thus the BEEP at the end. Hope this helps with the confusion...

This aside Dear Esther is a fine experience.

I'm kinda bothered though with what people opinions are about this, mainly because there's always that guy that begins the inevitable debate of "See!? Video games are art!" and okay that's great and all but why video games have to be like something else? Is because people can't understand video games and they need other medium as an example to understand how great and profound the experience was?

More importantly, I wonder what was the game that started that whole debate in the first place.

There's a random piece of dialog from a random NPC in FFXIII-2 that said "Why do people like cats anyway?" and I stop playing for a second and said "You know, that's a very good question actually".

The mysteries of life and stuff.

Oh yeah, yeah... I remember reading about this last year on neogaf. I saw the entire original mod on YouTube and it was very interesting, but I didn't understand anything of what was going on.

And at the end you die, maybe... I suppose. I don't know.

Will see how this new version is though.

Too bad I don't have Wii. :( Been interested in The Last Story since it always reminds so much of FFIX in a way.

Think I'm stuck having to watch a Let's Play of it, better that nothing anyway.

Even after watching or reading so many horrible stuff in the Internet by accdent or curiosity I still get surprised how far can people react to some situations.

I guess I'll always have my innocence by my side, heh.

There's this thread in the Katawa Shoujo forums (you know, that VN with the disabled girls and what not) and one guy asked if people has started to watch anime more or less in the same style.

So, someone mentions Clannad and I start reading the entire story of it in Wikipedia and later saw two scenes of the series on YouTube, and... goddamn this is sad. I didn't thought that it was that kind of story.

Thought, I notice around the years that School Days was a big thing in the Internet that there started to appear a lot of series with some seriously sad or fucked up stories. Or maybe I had the epiphany that every anime ever made is like that (for the most part).
4032  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Etrian Odyssey IV announced for 3DS on: February 21, 2012, 10:22:23 PM
With any luck this might be the first game I play of the series, should get a 3DS first.

Though, I would really love to see another album like the "Live Music by Piano and Strings" that the did a while back. To this day is pretty much my favorite video game music album thing ever (example).
4033  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Random Question!? Did you like Final Fantasy 13? on: February 21, 2012, 10:00:11 PM
I spent around 40-50 hours running through the tube with XIII. It is fine game with some nice moments and it also helps that is very pretty, but even as I enjoyed the game a lot I still felt a bit disappointed knowing how many years Square Enix took to make it.

In any case The 3rd Birthday in comparison to XIII is way worse. :p

I enjoyed it more than FF12. And no, I'm not kidding.

"I'm captain Basch Fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca!"

More than the itself I'm a bit more interested in the soundtrack. The song in the official website is great.
4035  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: February 21, 2012, 02:17:59 PM
Random question but, did anyone enjoyed more FFXIII in the Beginner's Primer? It give the impression that the entire story of XIII could have been more enjoyable as a novel. After all, you kinda have to read two novels before and after finishing the game and they also make you read the datalog all the time... doing that in XIII-2 is actually more fun though.

But maybe that's because the game itself is better.
