@Leyviur & ZeronHitaro: Good points. I can't say much other than in those days more or less I was getting into Final Fantasy so when X-2 came out all the hate didn't affect me, same thing can be said about the movies and everything else when Square Enix started.

All of those huge articles about the franchise or even reviews wrote by people who started with the NES or SNES titles can really mess up with your opinion and enjoyment of the new games, I know that has happened to me. But nowadays I'm more careful in reading stuff like that.

Ya'll are scaring me, I'm @10 hrs into FFVIII and enjoying it, apears most think it goes downhill quickly soon....reminds me of what X became in many ways though and I loved X so I have hope....

Tell us what you think about it when you finish the Disc 1.

You guys really don't like X-2 do you? Been reading a lot hate for it today here.

Been hearing the name of this for a while on the Bombcast but it wasn't until they did this really good podcast dedicated to Amalur (which you can check here) and in the last Random Encounter that I got interested in the game.

Sounds fun but I'll take the "wait and see" approach with this one since I'm not sure if this is gonna be my coup of tea.

A shame that Konami never released that Suikoden I&II Collection for the PSP over here. I would have bought it to give that series a chance, but yeah, getting at least the first one from PSN for $5.99 is not a bad deal.

There are a lot of areas in the game in where they seem to be a path but is closed, so I can imagine them using of those spots for the DLC. But it would be kinda random to do.

Also a quick question: Did anyone know if the Pendant does something? Is one of the gifts that you can choose when you create your character and you can also get it from a certain NPC. I do know that you can trade the Pendant with Snuggly to get one Souvenir of Reprisal but it has some use other than that?

I hope we'll be able to flip tables in this game

At least this doesn't have QTEs, and it's free.

Hey! Someone of my same age. Welcome! :)

If you have access to a PS3 try Demon's Souls if you haven't already. Is hard to get into it at first but is pretty challenging and has some nice moments.

and this since it is long, and has good music/story

Ah Nier. Never got around to buy it, and I've never saw another copy of the game in stores after a few months it was released. Though, isn't the game depressing or something? I'm kinda tired of sad stories in games lately but if it is as great as you guys said it is since last year or so, then, I should give it a try. No?

^I think that's why I liked FFVIII when I first played it. I like how it looks but when it starts to show you what really is, everything just goes to hell.

But, there is a lot of people (crazy people?) that loves the story and cast of FFVIII. To each his own I guess.

Oh well. I always liked IX, some parts of VII and X, enjoyed X-2 (yeah I know) and got alienated with VIII and XIII. I have tried to play the older games but... I can't do it. FFV seems (for the little I played) very fun but never cared all that much to play it. And no, I can't get into IV and VI.

VI seems to take his sweet time before getting to the good part and IV I've heard is a hard game but I never cared for it just like FFV, and the same goes for the NES/Famicom games. Played the first Final Fantasy on a emulator a bit and hated it, read a bunch of times how bad the second game was I never touched it, and all of what I've read of FFIII is that is a very tedious games.

So in a nutshell for me Final Fantasy is a pretty weird series that got big between FFIII or IV, and is not afraid to make changes to the formula even if that means messing with something that people liked about the other games in the series. Also, the music of every game is very enjoyable and depending who you ask is the best thing that comes out from every new game (though you can say that for a lot of RPGs).

They really shouldn't put a map, it breaks the immersion and the whole part of "exploring" seems kinda pointless.

Didn't want to do a thread about this but I would like to know your impressions about the demo and maybe if anyone buys the game talking about that too.

So the demo, I have to say that I am very disappointed by the excesive amount of QTEs but the part where you fight (if rather simple) is not bad. There is potential and this is afterall just the demo, but still, very disappointing so far.

Do all the people who laud the greatness of Dark and Demons Souls actually play through the whole thing?

I'm pretty sure I have finished Demon's Souls a bit more than 10 times or so and Dark Souls between 6 and 7 times now.

These games can last as long as you want by exploring, experimenting, helping other players online or whatever you wanna do really. These are one of the few games that I like wandering around just to see if I find something new.

To be honest, I just get a feeling of bandwagon jumping with these games. Were "supposed" to like them because their hardcore, and only the elite can beat them. From a non-difficulty standpoint they sound pretty awesome to me. I just wish they had a "you suck at games" setting for guys like me. Or would that defeat the point?

There is no such thing as bandwagon. Sure, at the beginning is very intriguing seeing so much people loving a game as "cruel" as this but like it was mentioned before if you stick with it and really get into it then you are gonna be surprised by how much you enjoy the game.

Though, I find it interesting how some people have said that they like the ideas behind both games but not the execution.
