I think is time to throw this year in the toilet discussing not our Game of the Year (or forever), but discussing about what were the biggest surprises and disappointments of the year.
Gaming related of course.Biggest surprise
: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
I'm a big fan of Kojima Productions, every game that this guys release is either extremly enjoyable or mindblowing in some form or another. But at the time when it was announced the biggest promise of this game it was that is was going to be a diffent kind of Castlevania, and better than any other 3D game of the franchise.
That alone were scary news for the long-time fans and exciting for the rest.
Granted, I'm not the biggest fan of the series but the fact that MercurySteam was able to pull this off so well deserves recognition.Biggest disappointment
: The "last game" of Shinji Mikami and Vanquish.
Now let me explain, I like Vanquish, I really really
like Vanquish. So much that I would call this to be "the greatest Third-person shooter" in the market right now.
But why nobody cared for this game? Seriously, it seems to me that Platinum Games have the same curse of Treasure; Excellent games that (almost) nobody played.
I really don't understand this... Vanquish is fast, entertaining as hell and challenging. Why there was no more interested people in this is beyond me. Not to mention that in Europe some retailers were giving free copies of Bayonetta if you pre-ordered the game, that's like saying "please, buy my game". Shit is just sad bro. :(
Now about Mikami, read this
And those are my surprises and disappointments of this year, your turn.
