1  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, a Thread Reborn on: August 25, 2013, 08:47:12 PM
I don't know why I keep checking the server status sites, it only rubs salt into the wound that I can't get in.
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Random Question!? Did you like Final Fantasy 13? on: February 23, 2012, 09:38:15 AM
I hated nearly every second of it.  Boring otaku bait narrative, unlikeable cast of cunts (except Sahz, he was pretty great), ten thousand miles of dull corridors, reliance on a database to make sense out of the shit unfolding before you, and so and so and so on.  I played it up to the point everyone was saying "Sure, all you have to do to get through most of the game is push up on your controller, but it eventually OPENS UP," and that great bastion of open space MIGHT have been as big as the Calm Lands in FFX.  I said fuck it and shelved it. :P

Battle system was fun, but not so much that it was worth sitting through all that bullshit.

I had a very similar sentiment, was "ok" with the game for the first 20 hours. Hated it by the 50th and couldn't bring myself to beat it.

I consider Noel to be the epitome of all good male heros in rpgs from here on, and Caius the tormented villian of tormented villians. Fuck sephiroth, boo hoo people said I was different and my mommy was a strange alien looking ancient thing. Meanwhile, and if you haven't beaten xiii-2 yet DO NOT HIT THE BLACK BOX IT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING FOR YOU....

Code:
Caius is immortal, and has to live eternally to watch the o.ly person he cares about be born, and live an incredibly short life filled with the pain of seeing everything in time and having it destroy her. He can do nothing, until he decided to simply destroy, not stop, DESTROY time. Sephiroth's shitfaced problem is like having a zit in highschool. Caius is more like being told his twin daughters are both gonna die, and he can save one only by sacrificing the other. Talk about  tragic dilemnas. Fuck Caius, I hate that I feel bad for him

I still think the best villain was DO NOT HIT THE BLACK BOX IT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING FOR YOU....
Code:
The Shadowlord simply because he's also the main character and both of them are doing the exact same thing for the exact same reasons which ends up fucking everybody over in the process (although really if Albert Wesker hadn't been such a pompous douche to begin with the game would've had the good ending instead of the Emil's head rolling through the wasteland ending).

Meanwhile, Ol' Sephy was basically Jenova's puppet while she was looking to score some sweet DBZ power levels off of the lifestream or something.

Yeah, I'll agree with this.

I've played through the demo but I cant bring myself to buy this game. I'm so cautious of FF as a series and even more so of the direct sequels. I know most of you like it...

She really hit all my sentiments about JRPGs now. I played 70 hours of FF13 before I got fed up and sold it, and oddly enough I cant remember any scenes from the game except for how irritated I was at the cast. I would love to sit down and read all the comments from the FF13 thread here and analyze it to see how many times people mentioned the story.
5  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: So I just played TERA... with screenshots. ***Bandwidth Intensive*** on: February 10, 2012, 10:52:40 PM
Just played for a few hours and here are my impressions so far: game is pretty, combat is fun and interactive but the story (yeah i know its an mmo) is pretty blah. After playing SWTOR, I guess I want more out of my characters. Story and questing feel straight from Aion.

I'm curious too, you were singing praises for this just a few posts before your last one. Could you put it in spoiler tags?

Its fun but its actually pretty short. I bought the GC remake of it and STILL have not played it once, I should really get on that...

I'm looking forward to hearing your guys' impressions of the game. Please keep us posted!

Ive heard the other tracks, and they werent memorable. I think it just blew me away how they would even make a song like that for final fantasy. The Leona Lewis thing was bad enough but this is like rubbing salt in the wound.

I heard the chocobo riding theme - worst. OST. ever.
11  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Two RPG series I'm curious about.... on: January 06, 2012, 05:42:58 PM
The first two shadow hearts are related with the third being the spinoff. The character progression through the first two games is top notch with all the battle mechanics being perfected in the third. The third is also way harder and more unforgiving than the first two.
12  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lunar 2 Eternal Blue on: January 05, 2012, 10:19:54 PM
Eternal Blue had one of the best epilogues in a video game i thought.

EDIT*

One of my favorite memories from Eternal Blue was when Hiro fought Ghaleon at the end of the first disc (or the beginning of the second) and the music triggered. I just sat there with my hands up.

You guys could just get the PC version couldnt you? Its probably dirt cheap and im sure even if you have a shitty computer it would still play it on max settings. It is a little hard to get working but there are tons of threads dedicated to solving those problems. I played through it again recently on my computer.

The empire side is so much better I think. I have toons on both sides but I like the empire side after hitting level 25 on both toons. I guess I just like seeing the empire not being as strong as they want the republic to see.
