1246  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: 'Broken' or 'Tired' RPG gamelplay elements? on: June 09, 2010, 06:37:18 PM
1) Random encounters in puzzle rooms.  When I'm trying to concentrate on a puzzle, I shouldn't get into battles because it breaks my concentration. An offshoot of that is Tower of Babel in Xenogears where I would get into a random encounter MID-JUMP in one of the most horrifically broken and twiddly platforming sections in a traditional RPG.

I actually finally got to that part of xenodurr today

i feel like those things in games that charge up by doing damage or getting damaged (like overdrive in ff10) are worn out
and I didn't really notice it while i played it, but someone recently mentioned in one of these threads that enemies in ff8 level up with party members (inconveniently making unused characters almost impossible to survive against that final boss)
and that's something else i hate about some games, not all inactive members get experience and they become too weak
too frequently random battles, respawning enemies (especially in persona 3 and ff12) and massive amounts of enemies in one area all really suck
some games, ff12 in particular, make me wait to long for things like summons and magic to take effect even if it should be already done once it starts and by that time I may be dead
I hate that most games have way too many npc's and don't let me know if they something new to tell me
and also weapons that break are slightly annoying but I liked that dark cloud 2 used that and actually made it fun in a way
edit: I also hate those thing that force me to work on a puzzle for hours to move on or get a crappy prize and and games that have too many battles and always give too little experience, such as legend of dragoon
1247  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: E3 2010 and RPGs; Which of these games will you play in the future? on: June 09, 2010, 06:01:02 PM
probably most of those, and xenoblade even though it has a shounen protagonist named shulk
I read golden sun ds and was hoping it would be a remake of original golden sun (playing that game on gameboy ruined it for me)
birth by sleep is a little exciting for me even though I keep forgetting about it
deathspank sounds like a funny name
i'd like to get valkyria chronicles on psp once I get a ps3
last story looks really nice
4 heroes of light sounds like a remake of ff1
and probably fable 3, assuming I like those first two games
dragon quest 9 because it's dragon quest
that deus ex thing sounds like something that would fail
but only because someone besides its original creators aren't involved

finished watching first 4 episodes of higurashi
surprisingly, it didn't scare me very much but it did give me goosebumps

oh good, well it's nice to know that it's a possibility
1250  Site Related & More / RPGFan: The Site / I have a suggestion on: June 09, 2010, 08:25:28 AM
and I couldn't come up with a very fitting title for this
could we maybe have something like summaries of series and company history in each review (including soundtracks) and maybe galleries?
or at least have links to these things with all that information about platform, genre, companies involved, release dates and stuff like that
I think it seems like it would be a nice thing to have
especially since a lot of times I'm curious about a series because I'd like to know if it's been generally well received or not and wikipedia isn't a definite source of stuff like that
and each history thing could include links to reviews of each game reviewed on here developed and/or published by that company or each game in a series, assuming it has more than just one game

:( I hope that place gets ate by a tornado :(

wouldn't you feel bad for that place since a tornado would have eated it?
it'd probably like a nice sammich made by a woman instead
1252  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: "Men can't be sexist!!" on: June 06, 2010, 11:19:33 AM
Still my favorite line in Xenodurr.

now that I'm mostly awake, shouldn't that title be something like men can't be victims of sexism?
those forums seem to be crusading against men being sexist towards women
1253  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Kingdom Hearts title to be announced at E3 on: June 06, 2010, 11:01:19 AM
Copied from Neogaf:

According to an interview with Nomura in July's GameInformer.

Nomura basically says one of the two projects he mentioned he was working on for announcement this year will be announced at E3. They want to do something for American fans... likely not on HD consoles, Wii or iPhone.

A voice actor listing for 'Kingdom Hearts ReCoded' has shown up: http://web.mac.com/phoolholy/iWeb/philsnyder.net/Jiminy%20Cricket%20%20.html

what is this "recoded" thing?
recoded makes it sound like coded is being remade or ported
I'm excited to hear him do jiminy cricket

Here in Chicago we got an entire Indiatown. It's pretty much awesome.

This is my favorite place:

All authentic pakistani dishes. Used to be a 24/7 place where only desi people would frequent, but recently they got a remodeling job and you see some of the hipster crowd coming in. so good.

I mean goddamn for $3 you get a sandwich that can stand toe to toe with those giant ass mexican burritos. And for $5 you can get enough rice and meat to feed two people. The stuff is flavorful as fuck too, they don't hold back.

I'll admit I've only typed this much because im hungry.

that place looks like a potentially bad neighborood, maybe that's just me being racist
or does all of chicago look like that?
you type if you're hungry instead of eating?

since we're talking about food for anyone else that lives around columbus and likes chinese (or any asian food), try hometown though it is pretty expensive despite being described as "cheap"
it's slightly hard to find and according to reviews on there, food quality tends to vary
I get sesame chicken and steamed rice each time I eat there and it's always awesome
edit: why are we talking about food?

lolol, that first admin called women "womyn"
and like he said, those bitches are fucked up

Of course, I do agree that the group of people subjected to the worst prejudices and most brutally unfair human rights violations in the world are women.  In some countries, livestock probably has more rights than women.  And even among "civilized" countries, the United States has a criminally short maternity leave policy compared to, say, Europe and a mother isn't 100% guaranteed job safety.
you can only get so mad at a girl that gets beaten up by an imp, right?
just wanted an excuse to use that line

Seriously though if anyone's in the Columbus, Ohio area,
I live around north columbus, but i'm too picky so indian food is likely to make me gag and/or vomit
1256  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What rare RPGs have you found? on: June 04, 2010, 09:53:19 PM
Quote from: wildcard
and I'm currently looking for Xenosaga 3 :3

i'm pretty sure episode 2 was the only xeno game to be released in europe
and that sucks a lot because I liked episode 3 a little more than xenogears D:
1257  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What rare RPGs have you found? on: June 04, 2010, 01:36:52 AM
I saw grandia xtreme today in a locally owned store, but it was $20 and I forgot if it was well received here
I also got odin sphere a while ago from that place and it was that same price
this is surprising since grandia was released around 8 years ago and odin sphere probably 2 years ago
1258  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: super robot taisen og saga: masou kishin lord of elemental on: June 04, 2010, 12:44:16 AM
nope, but now I want it eventually
and also want that endless frontier game in this series too
i'll probably get it with devil survivor and chrono trigger once i get a ds.
1259  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: June 04, 2010, 12:38:06 AM
I looked inside a guide for this game and saw those bosses at the very end of neverland
according to that, they were around level 200
I also saw "fol" mentioned a lot and assumed it was money there like it is in star ocean games
is that because they're both developed by tri-ace?

That's...odd...  Star Ocean was under Squeenix licensing, so you don't see ANY cameo's or themes brought into this game since SEGA produced it.
Money in this game is (R) (rubies, I think?)

several news things mentioned they were going to have sega publish it and tri-ace is named on this review for developing it
i saw a video on youtube with that (R) thingy in a menu
maybe fol is something other than money
1260  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Blur is seriously awesome on: June 03, 2010, 11:21:59 PM
I'll probably get it for xbox, since it sounds like some i would regret buying because it's so hard
and I love mario kart
