@Tenchi

If SE wanted to, the enrage could be a deathmove. Plenty of bosses have it, and it does its job perfectly. If SE has the boss set this way, I don't see why it should be considered unfair to use. I find it more unfair that a mechanic that's almost entirely based on having people with perfect internet connections in order to safely handle it is expected to be acceptable. They give no access to voice chat, we have to use our own versions, and no real ability to properly sync maneuvers well in group without, nor enough time to adjust to it with a lack of immediate communication. What I find is more unreasonable is how you can have a mechanic that is completely unrecoverable from. Same deal with being kicked off titan's platform, one of your tanks dying during garuda's tornado/adds phases in extreme, losing a tank in turn 4...I mean it's unfair to have such mechanics where you can't recover at all. So yeah, the enrage method....it's pretty obvious that it's not meant to outright kill you, otherwise it would.

In other news, fucking epic lag tonight fighting titan ex. I ran behind him for a tank swap, and he landslided after I got into tanking position and started comboing. Mid butcher's block,I find myself flying out of the ring and my party asking how I managed to teleport to the front and fly through the arena and out. Good stuff SE.

You forgot the part about us being fucking amazing.

Melee in turn 2 make for a very difficult allagan rot rotation. Couple that with the lovely lag issues making rot detonate early and the turn 2 strat is far more viable and with less bullshit fuck ups. Plus, 3 healers makes it incredibly safe whereas 5 dps make it much faster.

The thing about the tank LB is that the buff is really short, usually only lasting long enough for 2 attacks. In most situations, to use the tank LB is just delaying the inevitable wipe you think you might be preventing. Plus, more often than not, tanks regular cooldowns are as good as the LB anyway and last way longer. A good melee dps LB will usually drop a boss' health by something like 10-15% at level 2, which speeds up a fight way better. The healer LB is another incredibly situational one just because it usually gets the healer using it killed and leaves most of the people who revived dying again due to terrible positioning (garuda tornados, anyone). Dps lbs are the most useful because if something's dead, it can't kill you.

As for bad tanking, alot of the problem now comes from dfr players who are significantly overgeared getting into runs with newb tanks who haven't gotten into the habif of getting hate over doing damage. Tanks are not DD, same as healers are not DD, they need to focus their roles and not get in over their heads. Only time I'd lose hate is when jackass archers and bards went AoE crazy with raging strikes AND blood for blood up,in which case it's deserved. Kyuusei, if you wanna be an impressive war, open up on groups with berserk and overpower spam til berserk wears off or you're under 400 tp, then flash til pacification wears off, and stick to comboing each target while flashing when MP is available. Don't just attack the main enemy, switch constantly. Should be Butcher's Blocking the main enemy and hitting the other enemies with skull sunder. Do that with consistency and you'll walk away with plenty of commendations on war.

I used to offer myself as the sacrifical lamb to eat 2-3 bombs for ultima. At 8400 hp, i can pop thrill of battle and take 2 or even 3 if I use second wind while running to the second bomb and I get a lucky crit. If I did that while the other 6 players ate the other 2, it'd usually be fairly easy. However, everytime we tried it, the group would go to slow or eat second bomb on the tether resulting in a 5th explosion (they'd die first).

Be careful with the tank LB method though, OBVIOUSLY it wasn't intended to be the strategy of choice because SE said that all battles do not require the use of the LB, so it should be nerfed because it's unfair and etc etc. Just like turn 2 enrage strat, rawr.

Seriously, idk who the hell thought that the enrage strat for ADS turn 2 was unfair, but they should get fucked. Goddamn elitist swine who can't fathom people breaking the normal strategy and trying ideas. Drives me nuts.

But handling TitS that way seems so cumbersome, I much prefer to just have the entire package firmly gripped in my hands for ease of control. Just feels more natural that way.

Probably because the good sites aren't paying them for email addresses to flood users with spam about penis enhancers and credit card solutions.

Mesh can't wait for steamy TitS, eh?

...OK, I'm done...
This is why we don't get to play with Tits in a steam-based setting.

Beat ifrit ex last night in a df group as my war. Pretty easy once the dumbass healer stopped eating the incredibly telegraphed plumes. At an impass now though, which weapon should I take? Holy lance is trash compared gae bolg zenith, so that's a no. My blm is 43 now, so elder staff is an idea, but idk how hard I wanna rush the rest of it. The most immediate solution is Dual Haken, but with my current gear set, it gives me no bonus...in fact I lose skill speed if I swap out my bravura zenith for it. I would need a bunch of gear that's not very common, like allagan feet, tremor earrings, and some other items in order to benefit from having the haken. Sad times :(

Went to the gym yesterday, tried my hand at a new bench press maximum of 365 pounds, which is more than my own body weight. Now, I hadn't eaten that day or slept well tbat night before, and I was on my fifth set when I attempted this. I managed to unrack the weight with a little effort, and brought it down to my chest...and then I couldn't lift it off. Little depressing to have gotten so far and fail at the last moment, but I got the negative lift in, so that's a plus. Dunno if having eaten or a good night's rest or maybe trying the lift earlier in my workout wiuld have ended better, but there's always next week.

The fact that you are free to move and act at all times is huge. The downside is you're limited (so far) to lightning's sexy strut of a walk speed unless you are attacking an enemy, and there's no jump (that I have found yet) for aerial combat. It ends up feeling like I'm still playing ffxiii, except now I can press sqaure to block an attack and I can move lightning around to better gawk at her fabulous outfits.

Tries too hard to be a FF game

You could argue the same thing about other games in the main series, is all about what the series itself means to you as a fan. Besides sequels in FF while are connected to the original game they always tend to be it's own thing.
The problem isn't that it's an FF game, it's that it's trying to be new while holding onto the FF feel. Slows it down dramatically. It's obviously trying to be different, so why try so hard to be the same?
1332  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, The Last 13 Days on: January 23, 2014, 05:33:38 AM
So I played the demo.

It's kind of boring gameplay wise. Tries too hard to be a FF game and an action game.

There's 2 levequests I did in costa del sol that net me like 10k exp per completion and I could clear each in about a minute. I used that for some cheap exp while waiting on dungeons. It's pretty great for clearing the gap to your next level on jobs.
1334  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, a Thread Reborn on: January 22, 2014, 05:06:20 PM
Titan ex down. Only took 6 hours of trying last night, and it was a complete fluke. We had him at 15ish% when one of our scholars ate a landslide out of stupidity. Just killed the gaolers, and our other healer was low on mp so naturally, tumults wiped half the group. I swapped with the other tank who just about died (he walked into a plume as we swapped), and I had like 6k health. Naturally, mountain buster comes and leaves me dwindling at 1500 health,so I pop thrill of battle and after a couple hits holmgang, leaving me at 1 hp and with the healers now both dead, all but 1 DD up, and the boss at <5% health. I blow double inner beasts, berserke and second wind to eat a couple more hits, while the dd (blm) preps a flare. Flare lands, I'm dead, boss has 1%. Blm pops manawall, converts, and readies his next flare while weights appear. Heh heh, he died, but flare landed.

Win.

Which battle theme are you talking about, there was like 8 of them.

I gotta say most of the songs I enjoy in ARR are the 1.0 ones they had left over, like Nemesis, Steel Reason and Rise of the White Raven. Can't really think of many of the new songs I like. Coerthas is pretty nice. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
Nail of the Heavens.
