I've never played a fallout title before, but I have enough experience with first person shooters and rpgs in general to feel comfortable exploring everywhere and backing away from tough encounters. My only real gripe with the exploring is not knowing the difficulty of the enemies I'm dealing with. I got into a fight with a mirelurk queen that ravaged me, it had a skull next to its name. However I fought a super mutant with a skull next to his name that I easily took care of. Borderlands was cool about it with levels next to enemy names, wish they did it here. At the same time though, V.A.T.S. gives me an idea of what kind of damage I'll do per shot so it's almost similar.

Course, power armor is helping significantly is most encounters so I feel like a beast anyway.

I can't link it right now, but there is a Mini Nuke teddy bear mod that makes every one of them fired play the "AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA" meme.

This is far and away the most glorious mod ever created, I desire it immensely.

Alright, can someone explain to me like I am truly an idiot about the finer points of resource/inventory management.

I feel like I am doing something wrong.

Haven't got very far yet because I'm completing side crap I come across all over the map, but here is a rundown of my routine.

Go out do sidequests I discover. Load up on loot. Go back to current base of operations when my load capacity reaches its limits. Drop of junk in workbench. Put weapons in weapon bench and armor in armor bench (respectively). Choose from loot new equips and mod. Store old ones. Head out again. (Lather rinse repeat)

Thing is, I load up pretty quick and found myself doing this A LOT. Like I have a serious fuck-ton of weapons, apparel, junk et cetera.... Is this how it is supposed to be?

I think its time I turn a blind eye to hoarding for a minute and just move on to, at least, diamond city. Its been like 15 hours and I still haven't even gone there yet.

For someone who has never really played an open world/sandbox game such as this, the world just feels so massive with so much to uncover. I'm discovering real quick my typical gaming habits need be amended for this type of game or I won't get anywhere.
To save you some effort, the storage in sanctuary hills seems to be joint, meaning putting stuff in the weapon workbench makes it available in all the benches. Same thing for using resources for crafting or basebuilding, dumping it in the storage for any of the crafting stations makes it available for crafting and basebuilding everywhere. This does not, however, make it available in other safezones.

Also, this is EXACTLY how I'm playing. Enjoy it man, this game is gonna be worth every penny when I'm done with it.

Superior Sorceress coming through!
I disagree... my face is not snuggly pressed up on her bosom...

So i've been playing this for a couple days now...and yes I abused the item duping a bit. Honestly, the game is fun as fuck, but it's doing the same thing oblivion did to me. I feel unsatisfied playing alone...like I should be doing this with a group. It's awesome, but saddening at the same time...

Tied between BBQ ribs and BBQ pulled pork. If we're talking full meal, then either of those with mashed potaoes and grilled corn on the cob. As for dessert, hot brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream.

Putting this in a link due to possibly being NWS (and definitely being NMS).
God she is gross looking...

Lailah in the school costume is officially on par with Milla in my "Tales of Wifey" handbook. Rose is definitely right after both of them.

Judith still reigns supreme in the end.

Don't grind in the Playstation version unless the random scrubs are too hard. Bosses scale with Alex's level, so building him up too much will lead to some obnoxious fights!

And welcome!
That's mostly an issue when you've considerably overleveled for the zone you're in. Of course going an extra level or two over the zone you're in is increasingly hard anyway due to the exp payouts being pretty shitty once you're past the normal level range.

One thing SSC did really well was give you basically an easymode dungeon or area to run through after a fairly hard area, usually having enemy formations being really susceptible to Enemy Zone attacks from one or two specific allies. I remember in particular the red dragon cave, which was really annoying, being followed by the blue dragon cave, which was a cakewalk and tons of exp.

Speaking if the red dragon cave, do NOT try to skip enemies there, the boss fight there is pretty hard if you aren't prepped well.

Lunar tip #1, sega cd version is supposedly the best of the series, followed by playstation, so basically start at either of those two, and go psp if you're desperate.
Lunar tip #2, Vigor, Power Up, and Power Drive are your best friends in boss fights, and always use Power drive on Alex first when you begin powering up because he will often go before Mia, so he can attack at full power immediately. Kyle will generally never go first, so he can get the second Power Drive and use his Power Slash next round at full or almost full buff.
Lunar tip #3, don't skip battles. Only run or avoid fights if you're overleveled or really in dire straights.
Lunar tip #3, Jessica is awesome. Dunno why but she is.

(Brief derail, but out of curiosity, how did you mentally pronounce anime the first time you saw it written without seeing it heard?

I pronounced it like it rhymed with "a lime" and though it was some weird gamer abbreviation of animation, used in reference to sprites. I think I encountered it while reading about Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore on my school's computer back when I was a yong chilld).
The first time I pronounce it was like ann-ima, but I was pretty young when I first encountered the word. I was still calling sailor moon and dragonball z cartoons at the time.

Funny note since you brought up, I still pronounce mana as man-uh and I usually make a face when I hear people say mah-nuh instead. Fun times.

Oooohhh, I wanna try what ironmage did with the bio...

I'm highly resistant to cold, electric, and darkness, but very susceptible to heat. Mid to high proficiency with hand tools and power tools, with with above average carpentry knowledge. Strong against robotic and human male type enemies, but encountering human females causes paralysis and silence for a medium duration.

Defense and strength are very high but hp, stamina, and speed are pretty low. Intelligence is above average, but not greatly. Can't sprint, but can swim. When allies are injured, I gain berserk status and triple my strength but generally revert to normal after a few seconds (I have skills to increase that duration, though). I sometimes deal damage to allies due to overly exhuberant signs of affection.

I like this, we need to make more of these.

Sprinter leg vs climber leg: http://idroolinmysleep.tumblr.com/post/3276283733

So let's recap:
Yoda- enchantment guy
Agent D- tank
Dincrest- bard
Starmongoose- Quartermaster

Tomara- If it were me crafting the party, I'd make her a ranger for sure since she does archery.

EDIT: And may I have my storyline be that of the reluctant bard?  The bard who quit being a bard, has no desire to be a bard any more, but is still seen as a bard because of the interesting bardy things he did in his past, but class changes aren't as quick and easy as in, say, FF5 and being a bard just isn't in his heart.
Dice should be potionmaster in honor of Leyviur's amazing FF let's play. Good times back then....

I confess once (okay maybe more than that) I've taken 'herbal remedies' and now I'm "potion" master...
Love Tomara's pick and a lot of others. x)

Any of you friends with Agent D on facebook? There's posts of him lifting weight at the gym. If i had an Rpgfan questing party he would be The tank. Dinecrest would be the bard. Goose would be the camp quartermaster. I would be the Enchantments guy

I miss Goose...

Busy with school?  And TitS...heh?

And some other things might have soured me from the site a little, but I'm over it now and I'll be talking more. I actually do still read everything that goes on. :) I miss ya'll too.

Also, me according to Yoda:

If someone said something stupid to you lemme know and Sister Stephie will beat them up!! >:(
...or if I said something stupid I'll beat my own ass up. D:
Yeah, and if she can't do it, I'll murdalize 'em....unless itvl was Dice, I can't hurt Dice, she's too awesome with dem Nier updates.
