In regards to desert walker's post, I looked at that anita sarkeesian video, and I want to ask this...

In all the time most of us have played video games, and all the groups of people we've been affiliated with, how often is a woman actually attacked for being a girl playing a video game? Seriously, on video game forums, you see guys offering to do things for them in games (Phantasy Star Universe comes to mind), in games I generally see internet paladins crusading to defend girls from nerds who are overly attentive (offering to power level, get items, offer boosting, etc), but RARELY do I see any harassment outside of the occasional pic request. Even here, I've seen little to no objectification of the ladies, though Yoda and Dice do get a little borderline pervy. I'm accusing this lady of it, but do you think that maybe some of this excessive harassment is trumped up for attention? If a feminist has no cause, she's basically just a whiny lady... But if some "heathen" assaults her, everyone is up in arms to help her out.

Personally, I'm all for what she's talking about. Women get a serious bum rap in most games, and when they're supposed to be taken seriously, you get someone like Lightning who's just a male narcissist with an awesome figure for most of the game, essentially being what you're fighting against. However, my experience playing games and being submerged in video game culture has lead me to believe that situations like hers are the minority, not the majority.

Inb4"D's sexist!?"

Drunk driver hit us, everything is covered.
I hope you sue the pants off the fucker. Friend of mine's mother was hut by a drunk driver recently, she's unable to walk til probably after february, and that's going to be thanks to loads of physical therapy. Personally, I'd like to see the scumbag serve time, but that's just me. Take evrry cent he's got, and make sure he never has money to drink again.

The U.S. Should implement a law where if you've ever been convicted of a D.U.I. your license is to updated with a note or mark that makes it illegal for you to buy alcohol. There are enough assholes we can't control, at least adding some deterrence could help slow the influx of new ones.

http://www.destructoid.com/mass-effect-and-more-attacked-over-school-shooting-240657.phtml

So CNN directs an angry mob to the wrong person's Facebook account and the mob notices that person (the wrong person...) liked Mass Effect.  Since it's obvious that liking a video game is indisputable evidence that the game is the sole motivating factor behind any horrible acts of violence you (or in this case, someone else...) commit, the angry mob starts  harassing Bioware telling them to burn in hell.

Yup, this is where society is at.
I seriously hope one day, a significantly important figure in government who helps resolve a disastrous problem using peaceful methods blames video games for his desire to avoid conflict. 23 years of playing video games and all I've ever wished to do because of them is heroic deeds.

My favorite is how of ALL fucking video games to blame for mass murder, they use Mass Effect 3, a game where you are trying to save the lives of galaxies worth of people. You go so far as to sacrifice yourself to end a conflict, but yeah, ME3 promotes killing innocent kids. He must have thought they were Volus, right?

In ME1, you want to play the caster one (Adept?).
It is so incredibly broken it's amazing.
In the higher difficulties, this is accurate because powers did more damage then ammunition. However, soldier class generally tore through easy and normal, and even hard with no trouble. Just need to stay on top of your weaponry.

Yggdrasil, if I were gay, I'd love you.

...screw it, I can love you and women too.

It's aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!!!!!

I successfully managed to rescue my PS3 from a YLOD!  I have to say, I was skeptical as to whether or not the YLOD fix would actually work, but the results speak for themselves.   And hopefully now after cleaning out the internals and putting the new fan in the old girl will keep going for a while yet.

Well that was premature...the fix didn't last very long, YLOD'ed again today.  I guess I'll give it another shot.  Maybe do it for longer this time...
Isn't the YLOD a power supply failure, or just a generic failure display? I forgot as I only knew 1 person to ever get it.

Personally, when my PS3 started acting up, I just had sony do a service repair. 130 bucks-ish and the system looks and runs like new. Good thing too, seeing as I have an original 60 gig.

Christ, man, don't even think such things!

Hey, I'm not there yet! This is more of a way to rule another thing out. If it turns out I am Lactose intolerant I'll be dropping lactaid like nobodies business. No way can I give up my yogurt and CHEESE.
They tested for both Celiac and Chrone's. I don't have those. Which is good, because I love the hell out of bakery, too! MMM, bread.
I get what D was saying, Yoda. Instead of mourning the loss, use the time to try some new things. I think I may just do that.
...
Come ON, Dec. 18th!
I knew I liked grim for more than his taste in video games.
1795  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What's the haps? on: December 11, 2012, 11:45:00 AM
That's not how it was written and you know it, Yoda. The idea is to eat things that you normally don't eat that offer similarities to what you did eat.

Ass.
1796  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What's the haps? on: December 11, 2012, 09:55:06 AM
Grim, being one who doean't have a lactose issue, I actually don't indulge in many lactose based products that often, so I can't say how it would feel. What I would offer is a suggestion of ways to deal with the extreme loss of a regular part of your diet. Take the week to try new things, or foids you haven't indulged in for a while. Instead of yogurt, try applesauce or even jello or fruit cups. Instead of cheese on a sandwich, try a spread you like (hummus or a flavored mayo). I know when I found out I have an allergy to shellfish which occured very late in my teen years ( lips swell and I start having trouble breathing), I took it terribly. But then I started trying non shellfish fish stuff, and I no longer care that I can't eat shrimp or crab. Calamari actually became my favorite seafood item, and it reminds me of a good piece of crab when prepared well.

Great, now I'm fucking hungry.

My big beed really is that I don't see the harm in letting players do work in game like they would irl. It's common practice to have a person come to your house and service your electrical appliances or plumbing, or even something as menial as clean your house for a price. Why should it be wrong to have someone escort your character around and feed it exp or kill a monster for a certain item or armor for a fee? Most people outsource RL equivalent tasks like that, square enix could easily take the role of taskmaster. In 15 different scenarios, I see no wrong with it.

Pay for services rendered. As a freelance operator, it's a code I live by.

I wasn't referring to XI being a direct cause of squeenix losing money, but more about their terrible decision making as a company overall. On the contrary, I believe XI is actually still quite profitable in terms of a 10 year old game. Just choices like XIV and XII and XIII.....it seems to be more nails in the coffin than ingenious ideas.
1799  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Square-Enix is teasing something. on: December 10, 2012, 03:21:49 PM
Personally, I think the series has never had very good characters or story-- but SO4 was much worse than normal. I'd be a fan of them going the "total plot reboot" angle. They might even drop the number and go with a subtitle or a new "name" (like Star GALAXY!) to empahsize the reboot.
Ashton and Claude both have bones to pick with you!

Ashton Anchors is the greatest backup character in an rpg outside of.....anyone. Plus his dragon twins kick ass.

I'm double posting because it took me the course of an hour to write that last post, its hard to finish a thought while at work.

I can understand botting, which is horseshit and should be banned. It's one thing to pay a person to do your work, but making a program do it is beyond dishonest. One of the things I HATE about ffxi is the massive amount of mods they have for the pc version. Sorry, it's cheating to use windower, it is, deal with it. But bots that allow you to operate while elsewhere.....no, fuck you, banhammer. That's where rmt is out of hand and needs to.be dealt with, and I'm sure it could be handled alot better if companies were more forthcoming on paying for solutions or people to solve these problems directly. I blame that on corporate greed once more, as it's some rinky dink kid sitting in his basement that makes the software to perform these tasks, not some MIT grad with a bachelors' in programming and an associates'  in computer science. What little you claim to know about economy, Akanbe, is about what I know regarding computer program design, but sometimes basic knowledge is pretty good itself.

If RMT stood to be accepted as real people doing the work, then I stand by my opinion that they shouldn't be treated so negatively for it. You wanna bot and and hack and cheat, you deserve the banhammer.
