46  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The SaGa (emphasis on the captials) Thread on: December 14, 2014, 08:22:33 PM
The memory for the vita, I admit, is horribly pricey. Even when it's on sale, a high end memory card can run as much as the system still. Sony should really look into that.

I'm curious about the Imperial SaGa game, can someone tell me if it's going to have tech sparking or are you gonna have to buy some silly card to give you a new move every time? I'm betting the info is lacking still, but I figured I'd ask.

Idk, kinda happy to see stuff on the vita personally. Makes it more than just my ps4 control/display when in my living room (or bathroom, cough cough). I think the vita is getting too much flak, the damn thing looks amazing and handles well too.

SaGa stuff gets a bad rep for poor translations and lots of removed or missing content. I mean, SaGa Frontier 2 is missing whole story segments and characters because funding died down, and it's a semi well known fact that Fuse was supposed to be the 8th character in SaGa Frontier, but again funding. Never played Unlimited SaGa, but I did play the ps2 Romancing SaGa, which had one of the best intros I ever watched on PS2. The series has potential, but it just doesn't get the care it needs to blossom into a truly awesome title.

I can't say I have sympathy for the people who put these projects out there for people to critique. If you wish for only positive feedback, you are in the wrong line of work. I understand that having a bunch of little shits criticize your game or movie based on merits like "shit looks so lame" is infuriating, but be real. 9 times out of 10, no news is good news. Tekken has a dedicated fanbase, myself included, and Harada is gonna make bank regardless of what neogaf or redshit has to say about it. Same as Michael Bay's ninja turtles, Ben Affleck's Batman portrayal, and so on. Replying to the snot nosed 13 year olds with this kind of "feigned rage" is childish. You've still got hundres of thousands of fans who will love the game and the character, so why go to the trouble of baiting fanboys and nerdy fucks alike? Seems unnecessary.

I woke up to find mario and luigi cupcakes on the kitchen table. I realized then that today was my birthday and that it was time to play a non-stop session of Kingdom Hearts 2.5. I kid...I have a lot of things to do today, and that I already did an 11-hour-non-stop session of Tales of Symphonia on PS3. :D :D :D (send help)
You make it sound like an 11 hour session is worth seeking help for.

Speaking from a point of view where people who are newer to video games come fromyou have to bear in mind that we like our old rpgs because of the fond memories. I am fairly sure most people with no previous experiences in the FF department wouldn't appreciate VI, arguably the best in series, as much as XIII or even X. I feel that coming into video games later in life tends to degrade one's sense of appreciation for the "less is more" love of older games, but that's probably pretty common to us all. With that being said, I'd gently toss her into the deep end of the newer stuff like XIII (which I hate) or maybe even a newer Tales game, like Xillia or Graces F on ps3. The better looking characters and voice acting usually can help acclimate newer players into the realm of the rpg, where the imagination will begin to pick up and let them fill in the story in their head as they go.

If everything I said above is useless because she is in fact a gamer already, fuggit, throw her face first into VI because VI is the bestest. But I'd look for a gba version if I were you as it is the best version...even if Kefka doesn't have his Beavis moment.

This day has already been so strange so far in-so-far as it has gone entirely according to plan. Like, when I get up I set up times to do everything I need or want to do, and of course it never goes exactly as I set aside time for, but my OCD demands I continue to structure my day rigidly. And so far today I've gotten everything done at exactly the time I wanted to get it done. It's a strange, euphoric sensation being this on top of my day.

Anyway, just finished my part of my grad school application. Just waiting on one more letter of recommendation and my transcripts, the latter I just verified have been printed out and will be sent out in plenty of time. It's out of my hands now.

And I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing.

EDIT: Getting upset that I still can't download my Miku DLC, getting the wonderfully generic "An Error Has Occurred" every time I try to download something (Tested a game demo to verify it's not just the Hatsune Miku stuff)
Psn has been experiencing some issues of late. The lovely LizardSquad keeps trying to take credit for it, but whatever. I heard if you go through the psn options and restore licenses I think,it fixes the problems with the psn store. Can't hurt assuming I'm not mixing it up with something else.

Idk why people had issues with Magic Master in VI. I just Repose'd and Osmose'd him to death. Didn't even know you could kill him from mp drain at the time, I just went through status ailments to see which worked, and when berserk landed (resulting in me dying the first time I fought due to loltima upon death), next round I said "No ultima for you this time" and spent the better part of 20 minutes casting quick-repose twice- osmose when low mp. Random cure 3 when needed, and an eternity later, ULTIMA .... NOT ENOUGH MP ....*voosh* .... dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dadun.

Now that I look back, probably shoulda reraised and berserked him. Would have taken way less time.

Hey the skinhead character you're talking about is obviously based off the Australian wrestler Nathan Jones, so it's not like he's actually an american icon design

We're talking about a franchise where you can play as a Raptor, a Panda, and 3 different kinds of robots. A cat girl shouldn't just be "not that big a deal", it should expected by now...
Don't forget an aztec warrior deity, a brown bear, a small dinosaur, and a wooden dummy. Plus you can fight a dragon, a large mech, a demonic snake-handed ogre, and pro wrestling indian girl...

Oh brother.  To the whole article.  The new character, to the silly response, everything.
Then again, I don't really take Tekken too seriously to begin with.

Here's a link to the infamous Lucky Chloe character

More of a reason for Tekken 7 to exist versus Street Fighter 5 (like seriously, what's the point? there isn't even a change in visual styles; its far closer to a Street Fighter 4 Alpha than 5).
To be fair, Tekken 7 is being tested at arcades already, whereas SFV is in its infancy of development from what I know.

Don't have time to watch the whole video, but he basically establishes that it's endgame gearing. He isn' doing anything I haven't done already though, same cross class, same opening set of moves (though I save brutal swing til after maim) and it relies heavily on melded i90 accessories, something I never bothered with due to costs and a lack of necessity. From what I saw, it's a good guide for sure, but it's mostly for people who haven't played a tank since launch or just never bothered experimenting in general. Most tanks I know all played around with the dd war strat a few times already. I just always felt it made healers work harder and gave tanks an excuse to dodge less, which is why I gave up on it before I took my break.

Quick edit: Dem patch notes. Fucking dragoons better never complain again! EVER!!!!

I've had an absolutely miserable last two weeks.  I'm not going to waste time with descriptions about why that no one will read or really care too much about.  I just wanna say it fucking sucks and leave it at that.

It can't always suck, Dice. Just believe that it can't always suck...
59  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently watched Episodes of TELEVISION BOX offerings! on: December 08, 2014, 03:05:30 PM
Been following The Newsroom's final season. Next week is the last episode. I don't wanna go to into detail, but I wanna bring up last night's episode and its rape website plot. I've looked at a few reviews about the episode and they all run to that immediately as an OMG moment of the episode, but for the love of God I can't understand what people didn't like about it. The entire plot was well written and the debate between Don Keefer and the creator of the site/victim herself Mary was well executed. As a guy who isn't a wife beating, simple minded redneck, I was entirely convinced by Don's approach to the whole thing, and his reactions to Mary's story and concerns for what she'd be bringing not only on herself in the broadcasted interview but all people, man and woman alike, who were using her site or identified by it. A couple of reviewers pointed out that Don took too many liberties in the interview, naming Sorkin's fantasy-esque view of the situation as unreal. Having watched the series through and through, however, I felt that (assuming Sorkin isn't too stupid to forget his character's past episodes) Don came into this with a greater level understanding than most would. Sloan Sabbith had been victimized by an ex last season using a website where he posted nudes of her, demeaning her and probably influencing many future oppertunities for her because of it, and he spe t nearly the entire episode being there for her and just being a friend to lean on. It's even mentioned during his discussion with Mary, and in my opinion, it gave Don a level headedness to this discussion that most people wouldn't have had. The only grievance I had at the whole thing was Mary's decision to go on with it. Mary's showed an understanding of what she was doing, and unless Sorkin isn't well associated with the internet, trolls would ruin the site entirely, making it a mockery of fake rape posts, rape threats, and doxxing incidents. If she had done this interview she would have destroyed herself, and as Don said, most certainly someone would use it to ruin the life of an ex. You can't be both reasonable and unreasonable at the same time, and you can't say you "did the math" about weighing the good and bad regarding said website's potential and have found in any way that morons wouldn't have destroyed it in mere minutes. It just seemed unrealistic that none of this was mentioned. I mean cmon, major news websites are starting to remove their comments sections because of trolls fucking with them, something like this brought into media attention would absolutely get targetted for total trollification. But yeah, one disagreement in an otherwise very entertaining show.

Oh yeah, the ending of the episode pissed me off too. Not saying why cuz spoilers.

I kinda liked the secret final fight in Xillia 2 before the final dungeon for this, because it's pretty fucking WHOA DAMN SHIT IS SERIOUS HERE.

Also, the possibilty of walking into a berserkr or worse, archmage, in breath of fire 3. That could really ruin your day if you weren't super powered and/or simply looking for it. Granted once adequately powered, they weren't so bad, but especially on first run playthroughs the 2 of them were fuck awful.

Diabolos in FFVIII also had that bullshit moment of OH SNAP WHAT THE HELL DID HE JUST DO. Graviga was pretty horseshit when you fought him, and usually ended up following it with a physical attack that guaranteed a on someone.
