I honestly don't think there's any real way to tell if we are having any real inpact on climate change. The world operates at its own pace, one species isn't enough to disrupt the world's pace. At any point of the planet deemed us a threat, a global disaster would occur and obliterate us. George Carlin said it best, though I'm only paraphrasing...Earth's been around a long time, for us to think we'll make any impact on it is pretty conceited. Earth could wipe us out at any point, little more than a bug on it's surface.

I actually use my cellphones every time I have to update my PS3 =P
My router died a long time ago and I basically just put my cellphone as a portable hotspot, get my PS4 on that network and do the update.

I don't play online games on it ever anyway.
Using the phone as a hotspot is fine, but you still need to see the setup menu so you still need a monitor of some sort.

Unless, of course, you can blindly navigate through the ps4's menu, get into the set up menu options, find network connections, make the specific adjustments, then go to remote play options and set that up as well.

Dude, 100 bucks, go buy a computer monitor with an hdmi input

In order to use remote play on your vita, BOTH systems need to be on the same network. So in order to set that up on a ps4, you need to have a tv. You can't just set it up at someone else's house because you have to verify that it's working.

You can't squirm out of it, you need to have a tv for at least the initial set up, and you'll need it for subsequent updates too.

I want to start an Asian-inspired taco truck just so I can call it "O-taco"

I can see like 3 possible jokes in there...
Where talking about exchanging some O-taco for some O-kane, right?

After my truck, I'll open a gaming themed Tex Mex bar called "Ko-taco" ;)

Isn't Asian tacos and burritos what Korilla was doing in Great Food Truck Race?  Still, O-Taco is a clever name.  Will the various dishes be named with anime references?  I refuse to buy an Akane taco, since she's a lousy cook.

Yeah, oriental tacos are nothing new, I'm just surprised nobody (as far as I know) has taken advantage of that pun.
Because only nerds and geeks like us would get it, and we're far too busy in industries that make large amounts of money or still in school to take advantage of such an idea.

Most dinks would just say "Wonder what the O means?" and ask for a bottle of water.

Can one of you guys answer the question about whether a TV is needed every time you want to play via Vita or just once?

So do I NEED a TV to do it or do I just need to know what time my neighbours are out the house?
Not every time, but you meed to hook it up via your home network, which requires setting up the ps4 in your house.

I thought you were a vegan, Mesh? Tiramisu is made with marscapone, which I'm pretty sure is anti-vegan.

Pretty fucking awesome though.

Nah just vegetarainian.
Friggim love dat tiramisu, yo.

I think you're wrong about the Wii U, I'm pretty sure it's doing exactly what you describe remote play as doing. (streaming a video feed from the console and feeding back button inputs) Check the wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_U_GamePad). It's built on a "slightly modified" version of Wi-fi.

That's why I'd assumed it was roughly a similar setup.
I am kind of wrong. The wii u famepad however is still a functional controller which I assume is still a bluetooth or similar rf type signal, so input delay is non existant. Remote play on the vita is always wifi, so dat button lag yo.

Yeah, when I tried playing Omega Quintet (Not the most taxing game for the hardware) with Remote Play, it ran almost perfectly fine. But even then there was still occasional graphical stuttering.
Lol, try Destiny or FFXIV on it. It's like backseat driving...

I admit they look great given the devices they're being more or less streamed on, but it's still horrific.

It's not that it's inferior, persay. Wii u isn't running the connection to the system off a wifi signal. I actually am unfamiliar how the wii u gamepad is linked to the console, only set 1 up and I didn't need to play a game, just updated the console. Remote play is taking a different system entirely with different specs and a different operating system and basically streaming a video feed to it from another console while feeding back button inputs. Yes, the wii u is much better, I'm fairly sure it actually plays the games on its gamepad, not just streams it from the console.

But as Klutz put so eloquently, you ain't doing squat til you set up remote play on the ps4 itself, so you'd need a tv.

Well I have a laptop that plays most high-end PC games. I have a 3DS, a Vita, a Wii U (90% of games have off-screen play) and at some point in the future I'll get a PS4 which you can play via the Vita. Life without a TV in 2015 is pretty easy!
Not all games can function on a ps4 with remote play, and you also need a really solid wifi connection. I mean 15 feet away from it and you can lose signal, nevermind latency. Plus the lack of l2 and r2 and l3 and r3 mean you use the rear touchpad for those, good luck getting used to it, I haven't yet. My point is don't think you're gonna be playing the ps4 via remote play like a regular system, you'll know quite well that it isn't an ideal situation.Anything remotely real time and you're screwed.

Lol an oddball? You do remember you're on the internet, right? You know, various strangers from around the world and all that?

I'm not hugely knowledgable with hardware though. I only have a laptop. Can I get a PS2 connected to that?
Ok, first up, you have a laptop, no tv, internet service, and play video games. Yeah, this labels younas an oddball, even among internet standards.

Relax, oddballs are generally more interestimg than usual people. You should be honored to be different, I know I like being unusual for sure.

Second, laptop would need a video input, which is HIGHLY UNUSUAL for a laptop commercially purchsed to have. A USB adapter may exist, but I doubt it. However, the amount of money necessary to facilitate this course of action may be more than simply buying a shitty TV or computer monitor. I could look into it, but do you see yourself actually making use of it?

Quickedit: I take it back, it's actually pretty easy. There's a usb adapter called Easycap and some software which basically turns your laptop into a capture device for playinv the system on the laptop. So naturally, you will also be playing it on the laptop as well. No muss no fuss no
Code:
emulation
so you can feel proud of yourself for doing the right thing.

*beaten =(
It's my job to make audio/video work. I will not be bested so easily.

Unless you got a monitor that's more than 5 years old and only has VGA for display...that'd stop some people...
Pfft, vga to component adapter.

Now if you went and said the monitor was dvi only (I know, dvi only monitor???) then MAYBE we'd be having problems,.

Lol you're good at assuming the worst Agent D.
My mistake though, I'm pretty rubbish with the so called "curse of knowledge". It was carrying on from my earlier comment where I said I don't have a TV, which would've made it easier to deduce.
Not having a tv never stopped anyone from hooking a console up to a monitor. Also, you've been an oddball here since your first post, to see you censor a word, I should have assumed it wasn't a curse. Kind of sad with myself for not coming to that realization..
