Well, that was humorous.
Seriously though, I like how all the grotesque stuff comes in once or twice in small easily dealt with bursts and suddenly the ending happens and you throw up on your shoes. Good times.

Another indie dev speaks out against MS.
Having met the Devs of Skulls of the Shogun and talked with them, this doesn't surprise me. They weren't naysaying Microsoft too badly at the time, but when I asked about why they went with Microsoft instead of PC I got an answer like the one they gave in the article - seemed like the best idea at the time & they have lots of money. I hope things work out for them! It becomes a lot easier to care about a game when you've met the people making it. I've got my pre-order of the Bone-A-Fide edition, do you?

If anything, the big publishing houses like EA, Ubisoft and Activision are responsible for the current 'blockbuster' model. I can't say I blame them. Gaming is capitalist and they are just giving gamers what they want.

Now, I don't agree that Microsoft is solely to blame for the sorry state of the industry at the moment, but using capatalism as an excuse is the exact kind of laziness that caused the problem in the first place. Nobody is or (at least during this console cycle) was looking for alternative solutions to the problem burgeoning development costs. As a business you should be forward thiking. It wasn't until smartphones became a big deal that anyone started looking at alternative payment methods, let alone releasing games at different levels of production vale with variable pricing. Mid-level development died (well, shifted into developing middle-ware) on console and your options were Indie or AAA with nobody taking lessons from things like Deadly Premonition, which made money in North America because it was released at a budget price. This is without going into the shitty investment and payment models that publishers use.
Microsoft along with all the other major players saw where things were headed knew they could survive in the new climate and kept making things they way they knew how. I have to agree with Taelus, they like things they way they are and share the blame with all of them. This was a problem for the film industry twice in the past and it surprises me Video games haven't learned anything from it. Big hits will still be big hits even if you finance smaller productions to help keep the ecosystem afloat (plus, there is the added benefit of stumbling on a huge profit margin on a runaway success from a smaller investment).
Luckily Japan still had handheld and we had PC development or else things would be even worse.

I just rewatched the Harry Partridge videos, like, two or three days ago. I'm not sure which one is my favourite, but I always remember The Justin Bieber Show.

We have a comment on the iTunes page stating that song editing could be better. I'd like to address that, but I'm not 100% sure what it means. Is it referring to the sometimes-abrupt transitions I do to truncate longer songs or repetitive songs? Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Well it certainly is true that when you shorten the songs it is really abrupt and kills the mood. I found that annoying, but not enough to comment on it. Having it brought up though, I'd like it if you handled the song transitions differently. You could choose fewer songs, which is the easiest option and wouldn't be too bad. A more professional or even just smoother transition would be nice if you know how to do that. I can do video editing, but my experience with audio editing and manipulation ended in failure so I'm not quite sure how, but if you could give it shot I would certainly be pleased.
Otherwise, I have no idea what it could be talking about. Alas, I am a simple philistine and have no knowledge of music outside of how it makes me feel.

What movie should I watch later? Akira or Zodiac? I have never seen either.
How much do you like David Fincher? Zodiac is the maybe the Fincheriest of all of his movies and that really gets on my nerves. It's filmed in digital so it all kind of looks the same (y'know like his other films - Girl with the Dragon Tattoo comes to mind) except for a few sequences that use traditional camera's which is really jarring. It isn't a bad movie, some of the performances are outstanding and he handles the time jumps effectively, but the movie just bugs me. I find the whole thing just doesn't gel, like a central aspect is missing or it isn't as thematically coherent ws it could be. Mind you I haven't seen it in 5 years so maybe I just need to watch it again.

Akira is pretty good. The fight at the end is totally awesome and so is the animation. Probably won't 'wow' you though. So I'll say Akira.

The smell of the box.

Ah, yes a PAL game. I know that terrible feeling of having something stuck in the back of your head forever. Now you are free, you have found moksha.
I'll get that kiss when I eventually get to Scotland. Feeling my spirit rewarded, I go to sleep.

First, I wasted a bunch of time looking up 2D fighters that were ported to the PSX. Then realizing I was wasting time based on what you said about the beach level, so I grabbed a list PSX fighters and made sure to only check weapon-based fighters (I would have given up if that list didn't work) and I only bothered checking ones I didn't play since I never heard of the character you described. That limited the games to a handful of series' and I picked alphabetically and I got lucky.

Haha! You're not crazy! I'm crazy! I found it!
Battle Arena Toshinden 4 - You played as the character Fen Barefoot who is apparently Brazillian.

I can't find stage screenshots and without playing it I can't be 100% and unfortunately I like you that much. Give it a try and see if this is it. If not, I am extremely surprised there are two Spear wielding child characters that use wind and have pet pigs. Counterpoint, Japan. :)
130  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of PlayStation(s) revealed on: June 19, 2013, 02:29:28 AM
Looking at the Kingdom Hearts Rookie thread I was kind of inspired and figured I'd ask you fine folks. I have limited experience with the Tales series, but it has always been something I think I would like. I have no problem with anime, I like the idea of skits and I like character driven stories. Also RPGs. I've played Tales of Phantasia and thought it was deadly boring and played the beginning of Tales of the Abyss twice and I liked it, but I didn't get far enough to get any more than just a feeling of 'pretty good'.
BUT! I like giving things more chances and the trailer for Xillia looks really cool. I just don't know where to start. I feel the combat could get boring in these games and I hear many people comment that certain games have good combat and others have crappier combat. Basically, I want to know where to start.
Should I wait for Xillia? I'm willing to try even for full price, even if I can't play it right now. If it is supposed to be good, I don't want to be bored of the games when it comes out. Or should I get Graces F or Vesperia? I hear Graces has good combat, but Vesperia has better characters. I can get either of those on the cheap or borrow them. Fans help me...

I might be able to turn up something if you have more details. I get that it is hard when you might be making up most of your memories. DO you know if it was PSX exclusive? That would make searching easier. Was it a 2D fighter or 3D fighter?
That stage reminds me of a game called Vs. which has a pink haired person. I don't think there where weapons or pigs though.
132  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: DIVEKICK on: June 19, 2013, 01:27:03 AM
I really don't have a money for a PS4 so it'd better be PS3/4. Well, I've waited 10 years for a proper sequel I can wait a little longer. Especially since we have much more to see from Xrd.
Also since I last posted - Guilty Gear update: I totally main Venom. Playing with those pool balls and controlling space is too much fun. I really wish he had better ways of dealing with pressure though.
133  Media / The Soundroom / Re: Random VGM on: June 19, 2013, 01:01:50 AM
This boss theme from Xenosaga 3. I remember hearing it on the website for the localized copy before the game was released and falling in love.

Man, I love Xenosaga. That is probably my one of my favourite general fight random boss tracks in any game.

My choices:

The Calmest Streets of Rage The menu theme for the first Streets of Rage. Yuzo Koshiro's best work was on the Streets of Rage series. I particularly like the Slap Bass on this track.

X5 Boss Battle. There is something chaotic about this song that I find very addictive. I think it is one of the weaker songs in the game itself, but I find myself drawn to listen to it as music.

Best chase music? Best chase musc. Here I reveal a terrible secret. I only posted to comment on the XS3 Boss theme, but I felt like I was going to a potluck without bringing anything so I thought of Random VGM. Anyway, I know a lot of people dislike XS2's music and while a lot of it was bland I think the standout songs are great. With songs like this Yuko Kaijura really kicked ass, but I think Hosoe did a good job too. I loved hearing this song return as the theme to HaKox, when I figured that out it blew my mind.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I can say it is hard not to be violent. Just talking about the experience reminded me of my school days Bytor, I was picked on a lot and had to learn only to fight when necessary. I once got beat up so bad (black eye, cuts, ripped jacket, mud all over my face) by a kid that when the teacher asked me what happened I refused to answer, but stared right at the bully. He broke under the pressure, confessed and started crying. It was junior high.

So, yeah. Stupid fights tend to remind people of being younger because for the most part society stops us from having stupid fights. Despite seeming reasonable I've had my fair share of stupid fights. The only choice I made in high school was to talk to my oppressors more often, which made them think of me as a person and I was bullied far less.

I admit I have serious rage issues. You guys have seen a couple photos of me...I'm a big guy. I was always fat and going to a catholic elementary school was kinda like running a gauntlet of insults and ridicule...and later years physical abuse. I think I mentioned it here once but in fifth grade, my entire class took turns pounding on me while I was on the floor from some asshole pushing me from behind. After this, I lost my ability to control serious anger because I always fell back to that moment where literally I was helpless. Nowadays, I sort of got the hulk logic for anger control...I'm always kind of angry. I try to maintain a pleasant demeanor when talking to people or doing things I enjoy, but it really takes nothing to turn my mood foul. Stuff like weight lifting have really helped this year as when I get angry, I just put it all into my exercise and either pull something or go home tight from lifting that I forget why I was annoyed. But as you can see from posts where something like what happens to Jotacon occur and I respond with aggresive replies and violent logic....I won't lie I get pissed reading them. Shit like what happened to me as a kid....I get pissed seeing it and other types of bullying happen.

Long story short...I have issues.

Your whole class? That is awful, as a ridiculed fat kid I feel (some) of your pain. Though nothing that bad ever happened to me. it sucks that people are shit. As long as you have a way to vent that is good and weight lifting is probably the best way to do that. Build strength and become a better, healthier person. It is something I should do, my youngest brother nags me to do it all the time.

I am thinking about starting a kickstarter to try and get money. The item I will be developing is a sticker. Just that. A sticker. IN reality I will be just trying to get money for myself. My pledge gifts will be $5 you get a sticker, $25 you get 3 Stickers and a signed sticker, and 1000000 I fly to where you are and personally deliver a full sheet of 20 stickers.
Is that $5 with shipping? If it is, hot damn I want a sticker.

And you didn't beat the sheer piss out of him...because?

I'm no advocate for violence, but get aggressive and in my face and I now have an obligation to knock you the fuck out.
Because I thought I'd try non-violence first. First, I tried empathizing by buying him smokes (which is honestly the thing I am most mad about, cigarettes are expensive). Last, then I just tried shutting down all avenues of conflict by just standing there. Given his reaction of leaving when I didn't fight back, either he was high on something else and not making rational decisions or he was looking for a fight.

I wish I clocked him, for cathartic reasons, alas Ghandi won out over Batman. Sorry the ending wasn't that climactic - I figured I'd post about because it was just such a weird, seemingly meaningless occurence. The best part is my buddies on want to figure out who he was so we can beat the piss out him, unfortunately I'm not he mob violence type.
