They could also be releasing Dark Cloud 1+2 as classics. Not getting my hopes up.

Sounds like a win/win to me. I know it's not a popular opinion on these boards, but I love me some Level 5 RPGs.

FF5 will always be my favorite. Just so much to do in that game. But after that, my list tends to change with my mood. Like right now the next four would probably be FF9 > FF7 > FF13 > FF6, because though FF10 would normally be somewhere on that list I'm kind of bored of it right now.

Saw Elysium tonight. It was pretty great. The original plan was to do some grinding in Demon Gaze or Bravely Default, but I completely forgot about that because it kept me completely in the moment throughout. I thought the plot was really balanced--always moving forward but never feeling like just an excuse to tie action scenes together--and the talent were all excellent in their roles. A lot of the people I talk to have said in the past that they liked Elysium, but not as much as District 9. I have to say I liked Elysium more simply because it felt so much bigger than District 9.

Xillia was so deceptive. it appears to have very open environments until you realize it is in fact just very open-like linear "tubes" that connected copy and pasted towns to one another.

So kind of like Final Fantasy X, just slightly more open?

I'd say a better comparison would be like FFXII, but slightly smaller areas and a lot less variety.
1160  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of PlayStation(s) revealed on: April 25, 2014, 10:20:27 PM
I gotta say, during my playthrough of Xillia, I wasn't having a lot of fun. I was secretly happy, because it meant making it easier to just ignore Jude's side of the story. But at some point during the final dungeon I feel like I "figured out" the battle system, and I suddenly got the urge to play through the game again "correctly." So I guess the environments and dungeons didn't bother me as much as I thought. It was just those things combined with a battle system that made me feel like the tougher battles were simply a matter of spamming resurrection and pineapple gels until I could deal enough damage to win.

So yeah, with reports of a better battle system and story, I'm super stoked for Xillia 2. I just don't really like the look of the CE to purchase it.

I don't get why we're getting reboots of ten year old films.  It's kind of surprising really, but the money's there and at least some of them are good.

Licenses mostly. Basically, if FOX stops making Spiderman and X-Men movies, then Marvel can take back the film rights to those two franchises.

FF X-2 Opening Theme

This is probably my favourite piece in the entire game. I spend ages at the loading screen just listening to it play.

I feel like this conversation happened at some point:

"So, we're all in favor of making a direct sequel to Final Fantasy X?"
"Of course! I've even already composed this theme music for it."
"Oh wow! That's beautiful!"
"Okay, now what's the sequel going to be about...?"

Yeah, I've never heard the term 'blobber' in all my years of gaming.

I like to think everyone thinks they have a higher pain tolerance than everyone else, but since it's impossible to accurately measure how much pain someone is in, it's all just left up to the imagination.

Ah, the Sidekick. I kind of wanted one as a teenager, not gonna lie.

Finally I know where your avatar is from.. Thanks for the clarification, I never got around to asking but you were nice enough to provide the information nonetheless.

I thought I'd give the game some publicity because I loved the shit out of it.
Very unique and very creative.

I also like how you can upload your character to their site to have a yearbook entry online AND it makes you a custom forum avatar.

The game isn't worth the 20$ price they charge, but since I got it in a humble bundle, I'm incredibly happy with my purchase.

(The Deus Ex part isn't a joke either)

Game's been on my wishlist forever. Maybe next time Steam has an indie sale, I'll grab it.

Sometimes people are simply unreal. Suspended an employee today for tardiness and a no call/no show...her excuse was she didn't feel good anyway and another employee told her it was OK to take off work. WTF, who is the supervisor here, jesus.

Another one that gets me is when a person calls out of work because they are either drunk or hungover. Whenever we get a new employee in our workplace, I give them a heads up that you can't call out of work because of a hangover. Our hourly budget only allows for 2 workers on a shift for most days, so when someone calls out, that's 99% percent of the store calling out. I would say 50%, but that doesn't emphasize the seriousness of a call out...We're lenient with tardiness if they call in early saying they are going to be a bit late, but they have to make that call.
This remindse of my radioshack days where I usually ended up working by myself for half a day every shift I had. Boss would be doing "managerial duties" in the back and the second worker wouldn't be in usually til my shift was either almost over or just ending. I hated it, especially because I was told our weekly work hours were too low from the district over expending its budget. Meanwhile, every radioshack I ever visited always had 2 people on the floor and 1 in the back.

Course, my favorite was scheduling the work week a day before the new week started, but if I had to get a day off or rescheduled, I had to ask 2 weeks in advance.

I've had times where I've checked my work schedule on Thursday and then called on Sunday asking where I was because my schedule was changed the following day without any notification.

I kind of like the Demon Gaze character designs... and not just in a perverted way, either.
1169  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Demon Gaze on: April 23, 2014, 12:28:25 PM
That's good to hear it may not be as hard as the first 3 Etrian games, hah!  I'm not that great at Dungeon Crawler games, in terms of patience; despite my interest in the genre.

I'm actually happy you posted this, because it represents something about myself that I'd like to change. I gave in and bought the game and felt bad about it the whole time because I knew I'd probably not get very far in it. But after reading that comment I had to remind myself that it shouldn't matter.

I love grid-crawlers, especially the Japanese variety of grid-crawlers. I love the emphasis on exploration, and the unique character designs. I love the quasi-lite-life-simulation aspect of the hub area. I just love the games despite not being good at them. I feel the same way about fighting games.

I realize I have to stop worrying about backlogs and 100% completion and experiencing every bit of every game I own. I really need to just play games that I enjoy playing for as long as I enjoy playing them and then not have any regrets about just moving on.

Sorry if that was kind of me hijacking the thread for a personal soapbox moment, but it was a bit cathartic to say all that.
1170  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Tales of PlayStation(s) revealed on: April 23, 2014, 09:21:39 AM
I've enjoyed the story in most of the Tales games I've played. I like them because they take your typical "Save the world from impending doom" plot and, instead of focusing on the bigger picture, focus on how the characters in your band of mismatched heroes reacts to that bigger picture and the world they exist in. Hence the series' title. Even with a lot of archetypes (and honestly, I think Tales does a decent enough job being subtle about this compared to other series), I don't know another JRPG series as character-driven as Tales.
