I think making the Kinect a mandatory accessory included in the box was purely a financial decision. I'm almost positive it's the only reason for the extra $100 on the price and at this point I think they're trying to make back some of the money they've put into the development of the darn thing.

I mean, Microsoft was teasing the concept of the Kinect not long after the 360 launched and gave us a tech demo at least twice a year until it was finally released. And then... yeah, didn't exactly perform well, but unlike Sony's Move, Microsoft must have put a small fortune into the technology and can't let it just go the way of the Zune.

Needed a break from RPG's after my Chrono Trigger gauntlet, so I put the Sly Collection back in my PS3. About 60% of the way through Sly 2 and I'm still having a really good time with it compared to the fun but ultimately uncreative first game. I love that the game manages to make stealth a fun approach that is almost never actually required.

^ I *really* hope they keep the Christmas theme from version 1.0, now *that* was a relaxing track.

You must be getting much better weather up there than down here. 'Cuz if someone wanted to go hiking yesterday for their birthday here, I would spare no time in telling them just how cray cray they were. Glad you enjoyed it, though. Happy wishes for the next year and whatnot.

Most EULAs contain that clause lately. Honestly I wish someone would get on their cases about it, because their presence just screams "Can they really do that?"

Give me an RPG where I can dress my character up in all sorts of fancy outfits, and you better believe I'm gonna be all over that from day one.

What? It's a perfectly masculine feature to enjoy in a game
1162  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Index (Atlus' parent company) declared bankruptcy on: June 28, 2013, 09:51:19 AM
I haven't investigated the details, but I'm pretty sure it will end up in restructuring and nothing more. Bankruptcy is not always (and rarely) a complete demolishing of a company and its assets, lol. If anything, it's a good thing.

This isn't typical "We ran out of money" bankruptcy. This is "We've been fudging the numbers for gods know how long" bankruptcy.

Got some great news!

[NA] Creating New Character Limitation LEGACY World Removed (Jun. 27)

We would like to announce that the limitations for logins and character creation on LEGACY Worlds for the Beta Test phase starting on June 28, 2013 have been relaxed. Please note that these limitations may change as we monitor congestion on the relevant Worlds.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

All my new Solaris peeps and interested parties, get thee to Hyperion! I will be on at 8am EST for Free Company invites.

I'll be creating my new character on Hyperion at the start of Phase 4 and hoping they don't have to do a reset. (Also moving my main over via WT)

Oh, nope. I wasn't accusing anyone of moving it. I just thought it was an odd place for it. I came online this morning after hearing the news and expected it to have it's own thread like this or for it to be in the news thread. I was surprised to find it in the Megami Tensei thread is all.

And I wasn't even aware that Persona 5 was confirmed in development, so I'll give you that.
1165  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, The Last 13 Days on: June 27, 2013, 12:33:08 PM
I've said numerous times I like XIII and XIII-2. I've recognized a few problems with both, but I've expressed that over all I like XIII and XIII-2 and fully expect to love Lightning Returns. That cover is the first thing I've even bothered complaining about, and I hold that there's just something off about Lightning in that picture. For all I know it could just be that the outfit really doesn't suit her.

But, you know, whatever. I don't blame you that rampant cynicism in the gaming community makes it impossible to express any legitimate complaints.
1166  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Index (Atlus' parent company) declared bankruptcy on: June 27, 2013, 12:16:16 PM

Honestly, I'd rather see them with either Marvelous or Sony (or perhaps Nintendo in the long run). Hell, I'd take Namdai over Squeenix despite not really being able to articulate why I wouldn't like to see them get it either.

Atlus' online division seems to have been acquired by or partnered with Marvelous, so that one might actually be a possibility. Honestly, until we see Last Guardian I don't really trust Sony with niche studios like Atlus right now.
1167  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Index (Atlus' parent company) declared bankruptcy on: June 27, 2013, 10:27:02 AM
Thankfully Square Enix has enough financial problems that I doubt buying anything is at the top of their to-do lists right now.

That being said, I think discussion of this topic has been relegated to the Megami Tensei thread for some reason. I guess Atlus doesn't make anything else.
1168  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, a Thread Reborn on: June 27, 2013, 09:25:44 AM
I ran the little benchmark program thingie and it actually said "fairly high" instead of "what are you playing on, a potato?", which surprised me.

The Secret World fries my graphics card every time I play it for more than 20 minutes. ARR I can run on near-highest settings with absolutely no problem whatsoever. They did an amazing job with the engine, I will give them that.
1169  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, The Last 13 Days on: June 27, 2013, 09:20:02 AM
HA! Point taken. Was referring to later versions, when they got the "stiff and dead" android look down pat.
1170  Media / The Soundroom / Re: PROJECT DESTATI on: June 26, 2013, 11:23:04 PM
Seems a bit... odd. Considering most of the series staples have had the live instrumentation treatment in more recent titles. I'm a huge fan of remixes and remasters though (considering I dabbled in it myself for a couple years) so I'll keep an eye and ear out.
