Saburou is a different character.  S/he was the eyes and ears for Pi in Roots and was the only person to witness the battle between Haseo and Tri-Edge.

Compile Heart and Idea Factory have been improving noticeably.  Agarest 2 was surprisingly good.  Mugen Souls Z wins most improved student.  Fairy Fencer F was a step in a more positive direction.  I played and reviewed all 3.

Hyundai cars used to be poorly made tin cans back in the 1980s, but now they're one of the most reliable cars out there, on par with Honda or Toyota.

After recently re-watching .Hack//Roots I might have to start calling you Saburou for your love of analogies.

I had no idea what this was, but upon googling it I saw Compile Heart.
Not a good sign...

Compile Heart hasn't been so bad lately. They do have a certain flavor that folks are either a fan of or not, but I'm looking forward to this one. Mostly because it will be the first PS4 game I get that wasn't originally made for another system. Not that I'm expecting it to take full advantage of the hardware or anything like that.

WOO!

Ordered the Limited Edition of Omega Quintet a couple weeks ago. When I ordered it, the online store said it would ship April 28th, the release day. So I was looking forward to getting it around next Friday since I upgraded to priority shipping, but I just got my shipping confirmation tonight!

Yay! Might get it on release day after all!

I'm debating deleting School Idol Festival from my iPad.  It's a great game, but I think I'm getting too addicted to it.  Like to the point where my brain is saying,"you're addicted and it's depressing like a nicotine habit."  The only way I've been able to successfully conquer my addictions, no matter how minor or major, is to just cut that junk out cold turkey and never look back.

And Klutz- Fairy Fencer F's balance issues will hit you later on.  With it, Mugen Souls Z, and Agarest 2, I got through the early portions pretty smoothly then before the halfway mark they pulled an about-face and started getting sadistic.

I wouldn't NEVER look back. In fact, looking back after some time is how you tell whether you were addicted to the game or not. For instance, last year I quit Valkyrie Crusade cold turkey, and I was just thinking about it recently and realized I wasn't actually having that much fun with it anymore when I quit. If you realize you WERE enjoying yourself, then you weren't necessarily addicted, just really enjoying a game.

Ultimately, I enjoyed my time with FF12, I just could never be bothered to go back to it after doing all but the last two hunts and getting all the summons.

I still can't believe the plot of that game. I'm less annoyed by it now, but I mean COME ON

At one point The PRINCESS is KIDNAPPED by the EMPIRE, and McPROTAGONIST joins up with the DASHING ROGUE and his FURRY PARTNER to save her.

I realize a lot of people argue that most fantasy stories copy the formula that Star Wars itself copies, but that scene alone should make folks roll their eyes.

Not to mention the fact that the Emperor's right hand man is an injured war hero in full black armor and the final battle is an all out assault to take down the Empire's WMD.

Reminds me of the rare item spawn rate in FF12 that was like 0.5% or something. Just maddeningly terrible game design.

That's after you build up a kill combo of 256! God was that a terrible design decision!

Earlier this week I managed to finally get the last item in Awakened Fate Ultimatum and platinum that thing!

Now I'm working my way through Fairy Fencer F. While I enjoy the game so far, I have already encountered a minor problem: It is way too easy to over-level simply by doing the quests as soon as they become available or raising enough money to keep up to date with the shop items. I was merely level 7 and completely slaughtered the boss in the third dungeon that was supposedly a "Must Lose" fight.

I stand by my opinion that the combat in Freedom Wars is far too chaotic and poorly explained.

Not directly related, but I remember being the MOST confused about Resonance of Fate's battle system (dying the first 2 or 3 normal battles and no getting a thing).... but after about an hour or so, you kinda got everything about it nailed and that's basically it for the rest of the game....

As soon as I learned to abuse jumping in that game, everything suddenly became crystal clear.

Er... Karol is clearly wearing his Tales of Symphonia costume...

Dice: I think you're confusing realism with fidelity. In SO4, I would absolutely agree with you that they were trying too hard to combine realism and anime (Reimi being the best example of that), but the SO5 characters seem to be dialing back on the realism factor, and just going for high fidelity 3D anime characters, which is where the disconnect is coming from for people that find it off-putting.

Me, I just see it as a sort of CG variation of claymation (poor example, but the best I can come up with) and it looks fine to me. But maybe that's because the 3D anime style makes it hard to replicate some of the more annoying problems I have with 2D anime like those DAMN LOLIS AND THEIR DAMN FANGS! XD

From what I follow:

Agent D: "I like character customization."
Yggdrasil: "I don't think character creation is viable in every JRPG"
MickeyMac: "I think he meant more customization than outright creation"
Agent D: "That's right"
Yggdrasil: "How dare you tell him he's right! But my last point still stands anyway."
MickeyMac: "Well your post that addresses my point clearly shows you didn't get my point. [long-form argument]"
Yggdrasil: "[appropriate gif responding to address snide response] But you make some good points, but I still disagree"
Agent D: [Strangest way of saying "I agree" in the universe]
Yggdrasil: "You would agree with him, wouldn't you?"

Is anyone else seeing how odd this conversation has gone? \

Freedom Wars - OK, this game is actually pretty amazing.  I am almost 100% certain that the reason it doesn't have a larger following is because it's stranded on the Vita (which is a shame for both the game and that beautiful, underapprecaited machine).

intriguing setting/likable cast/tons of customization/great battle system/lots of multiplayer.  The story might be a little trite, but it's more than made up for by all of the positives this title has going for it.  I have no clue why more people aren't into this.

braces for inevitable "monster hunter clone" backlash...

I stand by my opinion that the combat in Freedom Wars is far too chaotic and poorly explained.

Why is everyone being so passive-aggressive over such a mundane misinterpretation?

I am literally very confused how such a harmless discussion took this turn.
